How can I be sure supercharging will work on a salvage title plaid I’m looking to purchase?

jordangoody | 2026-02-28 05:15 | 18 views

It actually still works now on a supercharger.. I tried it during the test drive. Please help. Omg that car is amazing!

Lol which part isn’t clear?

StrikingComputer2705 2026-02-28 05:28

Well all of it, what do you mean “how can u be sure super charging will work?” Is the port to charge the car broken? And you also said “it actually still works now on a supercharger” so I’m so confused

StrikingComputer2705 2026-02-28 05:29

I just have no idea what you’re asking or saying, I’m sure someone will though!

jordangoody 2026-02-28 05:29

I’ve been told that salvage title cars can be blocked from using a supercharger. I’m worried that when I do the transfer, Tesla will notice that the title is salvage now, and they will block it. It’s reassuring that it’s currently working using the previous owners account, I guess, but if they do some kind of check during transfer, and then for whatever reason my car fails, then I’ll be screwed!

You can see the log of charges. See when was the last time they used a super charger and if they were charged.

Salvage Suicide why would you make such a bad high risk purchase

tigole 2026-02-28 05:49

I thought all Plaids came with carbon fiber trim?

Right_Economist_3508 2026-02-28 06:24

Same. The first thing I do is ask Reddit instead of Tesla themselves.

jordangoody 2026-02-28 06:25

Hard to get ahold of Tesla. Someone on Reddit might have experience with this… but then again, I guess not!

seanocono22 2026-02-28 06:46

This isn’t a Plaid. Wood trim is the dead giveaway. EDIT: I was wrong.

ArtificialSugar 2026-02-28 07:20

Early Plaids did not (or maybe had the option?). My 2021 Plaid S has dark wood and I love it.

Toolfox 3. Salvage titles supercharge again.

ifyym 2026-02-28 07:51

Correct, the original offerings you could cross spec. Was quickly killed but there a few floating around

[deleted] 2026-02-28 08:40

Early Plaids didn’t have CF

If the title is already listed as salvage and supercharging is currently working, either it has been repaired, inspected and approved and Tesla added it back to the network, or, it slipped through the process and was missed. Either way, if it is more than a month since any title changes should have happened, it should be safe now moving forward. Just to clarify, is the title currently salvage or rebuilt?

wesblog 2026-02-28 11:26

I have experience. Unfortunately, supercharging will work until you register the car. The new registration with a salvage designation will alert Tesla and they will block supercharging. You will get no notice and the app won't notify you of a change. One day you will try a supercharger and it will refuse to charge. I was actually on a trip (since I only used superchargers when traveling) and was nearly stranded with my 4yo. Fortunately I found a nearby hotel that let me use their level 2 charger.

jordangoody 2026-02-28 12:05

Did it ever get resolved?

wesblog 2026-02-28 12:33

No. I eventually got a hold of people at Tesla via the phone. And they told me to take the car to the local Tesla shop to be inspected. But when I got to the Tesla repair center they told me the process would take 3 days and cost $2100 (if they don't find any issues). Instead I just bought an adaptor and used the Electrify America fast chargers whenever I went on road trips.

Burbank!

seanocono22 2026-02-28 14:21

Really!? How early? My 22 MXP has CF.

[deleted] 2026-02-28 14:25

I believe the change was around ‘21 I have a ‘23 with CF but wood was standard in the Plaid at the beginning

seanocono22 2026-02-28 15:11

Thank you. Yeah, it had to be early. I stand corrected.

jordangoody 2026-03-02 05:16

I think salvage. I’ll know for sure tomorrow.

xrfr8 2026-03-02 05:35

If salvage, to get access to supercharging, you will need to pay Tesla their $2500 inspection fee after the vehicle is repaired for them to allow it back on the supercharging network… They may also need a copy of your rebuilt title after it has been repaired and inspected by the dmv and they have issued the rebuilt title. It’s a bit of a pain after a salvage title. I was lucky and found a damaged lemon law buy back title so fixed it and got everything back to normal immediately with no inspections needed ;) And they may not honour any warranty regarding anything to do with repaired areas of the car.

jordangoody 2026-03-02 05:39

But this car charged at a Tesla station during my test drive. When are they gonna give me a problem? Is it possible they won’t give me any problem at all?

xrfr8 2026-03-02 06:02

Hmm, if the title says rebuilt, all is well. If it still says salvage, it must have slipped through their system and may still all be well. I doubt they would disable it now…
