Warning for people who are transferring FSD: Telsa silently changed terms today.

TheNoLifeKing | 2026-02-28 03:08 | 188 views

Yesterday: If you ordered any Tesla, you could transfer FSD as long as you "ORDERED" before March 31st [(https://x.com/cybrtrkguy/status/2025010308251611585](https://x.com/cybrtrkguy/status/2025010308251611585)) Today: If you order any Tesla, you now have to take delivery before March 31st. (See here [https://www.tesla.com/support/fsd-transfer](https://www.tesla.com/support/fsd-transfer)) For anyone that is planning to do an FSD transfer, if your delivery is delayed or outside of that window, you are no longer eligible for your transfer. This is messed up if they don’t honor orders before the change.

This is some BS!!

Buggabones1 2026-02-28 03:45

So all the people waiting to transfer their lifetime FSD to the new CT just canceled their orders?

WhaleDonation7 2026-02-28 03:46

Bastards

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 03:48

I suspect this is the exact reason for the change. They don't want the new CT owners to transfer their FSD. Timing is too close.

dantodd 2026-02-28 04:05

"for a limited time" means they will likely change it before March 31st. I hope you got your order in early

p3n9uins 2026-02-28 04:29

Dammit! Thanks for the heads up

HarleyDS 2026-02-28 04:42

This is why I put my order in and already took delivery. FSD is transferred now from my 2018 that was stuck on HW 2.5. The 0.99% APR financing also helped me move faster.

ChickenFlavoredCake 2026-02-28 05:10

They are so petty lol

jlnoell 2026-02-28 06:56

What are the steps for transferring FSD in the order process? Is it part of the trade-in tasks?

Jaowulf 2026-02-28 07:10

Ya but they should have specified that before dropping the 60k Cybertruck news. That’s b/s to take everyone’s deposits then switch it. I specifically ordered the truck to transfer my garbage hw3 that’s been left behind that cost 15k. If I can’t transfer it, I don’t want it. I have emails and text messages confirming I’m locked in for the transfer. I just hope I can get my deposit back.

ChickenFlavoredCake 2026-02-28 07:20

If you ordered it when the previous terms were in effect, they have to honor it AFAIK. Email your advisor and get it in writing clearly.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 07:24

No, FSD transfer isn’t related to trade ins. One of the purchase steps is “Would you like to transfer your existing FSD on delivery” and you select yes or no.

Historical-Bug-7536 2026-02-28 07:41

That’s insane. That was some limited time promo. That was “sorry we made you paid for FSD 5 years before it did what we said it would be able to do.”

Historical-Bug-7536 2026-02-28 07:44

reddituser4049 2026-02-28 09:17

I'm ready to join whatever class action is formed to hold Tesla accountable to all HW3 and earlier owners who purchased FSD. This is straight up bullshit.

mexican_chicken_soda 2026-02-28 10:55

Shoot. I placed my order this Friday specifically to lock in the transfer. Is there anyway to confirm if my order was placed before the terms were changed? I also received the email offer that said “order by”. This is so deceptive of them.

bishop42O 2026-02-28 11:10

OMG so shocked this company would do something like this......

arjunprabhu 2026-02-28 12:16

Total rug pull and scam if true. Tons of people purchased FSD on old cars just because it could be transferred. Elon is a genius at how to damage a brand that once had so much potential.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-28 14:55

Yeah I called to make sure , used the agent help chat and everything. Same story the whole time, the reservation would lock in the terms. I’m anticipating to disappointed but first few deliveries in June should tell us more.

BridgeFourArmy 2026-02-28 14:56

I don’t k ow of they’ll honor it but I knew it was a $250 gamble. Who knows what these trucks, cars, interest rates will be in 6 months to a year. Here is to hoping!

jeffcrilly2 2026-02-28 16:09

I just did the FSD transfer process and took delivery of a 2026 M3P a week ago. You do the normal order and tell the “delivery team” in the app you want to transfer FSD. (Btw also tell them you want $500 off for the loyalty discount.) The car with FSD needs to be in the same account as the new order: - Make sure you use the SAME EMAIL for the new car order as your Tesla account email. -DO NOT sell the old car before taking delivery of the new car. On delivery day, once you “accept” the new car it will magically have FSD enabled. I didn’t have to do anything! (In fact I was trading-in a 2018, and the old car disappeared from the app BEFORE I “accepted” the new car. I was a bit freaked but the Tesla ppl told me it will be all good.) Btw HW4 / highland/ M3P is orders of magnitude better (imo) than the 2018/HW3 M3P. Engineering has improved a ton in 7 years. There’s so many details that are nicer on the 2026… I’m glad I had the opportunity to “upgrade”.

TheKingOfSwing777 2026-02-28 16:11

I mean, if you ordered yesterday or before, you would be under the criteria of the original agreement and be fine to transfer FSD whenever your delivery date comes. I guess they trying to limit that for new orders.

TheKingOfSwing777 2026-02-28 16:13

But being misleading is the intention. They want to drive sales but not cannibalize new FSD contacts.

Radius118 2026-02-28 16:30

I hope this was sarcasm because Tesla has a horrible history of abusing customers. It reminds me of the really bad days of GM. Everyone knew their vehicles were garbage yet people kept buying them. Believe it or not there was a time when GM was far worse than it is now.

Jaowulf 2026-02-28 16:36

I will join you.

Jaowulf 2026-02-28 16:38

https://preview.redd.it/4aey8u51k9mg1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7906fa47b6caea565572cc47bfbe0a81ed9a4150 This is what they just said to me. I ordered on Monday 2/23. And I have confirmation from them twice in the same text message from days prior assuring me I’m locked in for the incentive.

Dr_Pippin 2026-02-28 17:01

Well crap. I was one of those waiting to order for another couple weeks with the plan to transfer.

RealUlli 2026-02-28 17:05

Good thing I ordered my new Model 3 yesterday. ;-)

jlnoell 2026-02-28 17:13

Thanks for the heads up on that date change. I was going to wait another couple of weeks and would probably be too late.

jlnoell 2026-02-28 17:13

Thanks for the details.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 17:28

Keep pushing. Be sure to let them know they should make exceptions for those who ordered before this change and that it’s completely unacceptable.  Let them deliver them if they won’t and cancel on delivery.

bishop42O 2026-02-28 17:40

lol yes

thewashley 2026-02-28 17:52

Elon's gotta hit that FSD subscriptions goal!

sparkyblaster 2026-02-28 18:14

Tesla went from a pro consumer company, to evil.

sparkyblaster 2026-02-28 18:16

I dont think they can change the terms of an agreement after the fact.

Potential_Purpose701 2026-02-28 19:11

How long have you been an owner? I’ve experienced them change shit from one next to day and won’t honor it.. now that I think about it we the owners are the crazy people for willing forking over money to be treated like this..

Jaowulf 2026-02-28 19:55

How does that work? Truck gets delivered and I just refuse it? Do I get my deposit back or what?

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 20:03

You won’t get your deposit back - and even if you were to cancel now that would be the case. And correct, it gets delivered and you just refuse it when you go to pick it up in person. It at least gives you some leverage to possibly have them transfer it. The center spent $$$ shipping your order to that location, and in some cases custom build them, and now has to sit on it, which they don’t want to do.

squish102 2026-02-28 20:06

The best way to do that is drop it to $50

TheNoLifeKing 2026-02-28 20:07

It doesn’t matter even if your order was placed before the terms changed, they right now are not even confirming if they will even honor those that did place their order way before that.

Jaowulf 2026-02-28 20:07

Ya I guess I’ll go that route, sucks that it has to come to that. Hopefully they allow transfers again. They have done this before. Not this shady though.

ManyPossession8767 2026-02-28 21:28

This is the kind of crap that got me over my Tesla addiction They gotta stop with the nonstop policy changes

Puzzleheaded-Cup-854 2026-03-01 00:23

The deal is only available so they can beef up thier numbers.

rsg1234 2026-03-01 00:40

The wife and I were going to test drive the new Y but I think we will pass now. HW3 FSD paid for.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-03-01 00:48

It’s not true, I spoke with a rep today and said it still had to arrive before March 31st and that I should cross my fingers and hope mine arrives on time.  I was pretty pissed and told them that is bullshit and they said some washy “let’s see what happens. “.

TheKingOfSwing777 2026-03-01 03:29

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know either, but it wouldn't surprise me either if there is language that says Tesla can change the contract unilaterally at any time. They are speed running losing the good will of their fans.

True-Kangaroo532 2026-03-01 03:40

this i just drove to FL from NY. in my 23 myp. if it was $50 I would buy it for the month. AP works just fine. We aren’t poor the us gov considered us wealthy due to net worth. $99 to switch lanes no but for $50 sure.

dsigma_domega 2026-03-01 03:58

Wait you are allowed to transfer your FSD??? I bought new in Nov 2025. I can transfer it for life?

TheNoLifeKing 2026-03-01 04:06

You used to be able to, after March 31st, you wont be able to anymore.

djh_van 2026-03-01 04:12

Go to the EV media about this.

chodtoo 2026-03-01 04:13

I suspect they also want to retain better value of older models if they have FSD.

bittabet 2026-03-01 05:16

Now they’re saying they’re not going to honor it, apparently if you reach out again the reps will let you know the new terms. https://x.com/sawyermerritt/status/2027883683064041835?s=46

bittabet 2026-03-01 05:17

https://x.com/sawyermerritt/status/2027883683064041835?s=46 They’re changing the requirements. But presumably if they get enough backlash and negative publicity from their antics they might be forced to honor at least some

bittabet 2026-03-01 05:18

I didn’t think so either but apparently they’re offering to refund people, I don’t know if you could force them to honor it 🤔 not sure how binding the order agreements are https://x.com/sawyermerritt/status/2027883683064041835?s=46

bittabet 2026-03-01 05:20

They are saying on X that they will now give refunds if you bought with the intent to transfer FSD? But I think you have to reach out to them not just cancel yourself. So don’t cancel it yourself. I’m still holding out hope that enough people bitch at Elon for this nonsense that they end up honoring it

Packing-Tape-Man 2026-03-01 12:48

That would only be true if there is something in writing related specifically to the new vehicle order that referenced the right to transfer FSD from a previous vehicle. If the FSD transfer promotion is a totally separate agreement not tied to your specific order, Tesla has no legal obligation to honor it in your new order if they change the terms.

whazzup_bitches 2026-03-01 13:11

FSD being transferable is a somewhat recent offering. Those who purchased it years ago never had a future transfer option in mind.

Rocketstiltskin 2026-03-01 16:34

I transferred FSD from my 2020 Model Y with 80K miles to a gorgeous new 2026 Model Y. I placed the order one day and picked it up the very next! The dealer, about 100 miles away, had exactly what I wanted. I drove my trade-in there using FSD, and after about 20 miles of camera calibration, my new Model Y drove us home on FSD.

frickthebreh 2026-03-01 17:31

This is infuriating…the FSD transfer policy was the primary driver of me putting down a non-refundable $250 order for the dual motor cybertruck.

ChickenFlavoredCake 2026-03-01 17:35

>If you ordered it when the previous terms were in effect

Packing-Tape-Man 2026-03-01 18:47

You don’t seem to be getting it. The whole point is that even if you ordered during the previous terms that they will not let you transfer it if you take delivery after 3/31. That’s why people are upset. Your only option it you don’t have possession by 3/31 is to refund your order and not take the car or to accept that you cannot transfer it even though you could when you ordered.

ChickenFlavoredCake 2026-03-01 20:43

> The whole point is that even if you ordered during the previous terms that they will not let you transfer it if you take delivery after 3/31. Source? Direct from Tesla or an advisor, not bloggers.

TheNoLifeKing 2026-03-01 22:15

I spoke to Tesla and that is what they told me (it needs to deliver) I pushed back pretty hard since my window is right after March 31st and they gave me a non-commital let’s see what happens but we can’t guarantee anything so they definitely aren’t confirming it.

HarleyDS 2026-03-02 11:44

Yes, it’s on the Trade-in step, I didn’t trade in my old Model3, I still have it. I had to have the delivery sales guy help me.

Electronic_Gap_3450 2026-03-10 23:17

I did the same and they are now offering another model or deposit refund but not honoring the original FSD terms.
