Who thinks Tesla will not cancel the model S or bring it back after canceling?

Never know with Tesla.

No chance

I think we’ll see an autonomous version release that is cheaper but luxurious.

Shes dead, Jim

I think it was a ploy just to sell more cars before the end of the quarter. Tesla will say due to high demand they are keeping the model S.

The S had a great advantage when it was the only "luxury" EV. It was fast and looked great. but it was never very luxurious. Now there are more luxurious EVs around, and Tesla never planned to compete with that.

I've toured Fremont. They are out of space. Shutting down S and X lines will allow them to put up Optimus lines, and Tesla prefers to have initial production lines near engineering (which is mostly still in Fremont; not Austin). I think the S & X might have survived or might have had a chance of being revived before Elon switched parties and helped get Trump elected. Once the entire force of the social and legacy media was directed against Elon and Tesla, sales took a hit, and that particularly hit S & X which already lagged a bit in high-end features compared to established luxury brands. And it also hit the Cybertruck hard because it is the most easily identified Tesla vehicle. But Cybertruck is made in Texas where they have more space. You may or may not believe in my comment about the media, but to this day, the Devon PA Tesla location has protesters out front every Saturday, even in inclement weather.

Capable-Ad-2765 2026-02-26 21:16

Nice take. I didn't know that protests were still on going. That was a big miscalculation on his part. I like his tech, but I do not like his instability. But overall I'm verys skeptical that optimus or any other similars will really sell that much for a long time. They're just not useful, my opinion. The S and X need refreshes and better pricing. We'll see I suppose.

"After 10 days."

The story is that Tesla is closing the Fremont X & S production lines to be replaced with robot production lines. I don't know, there may be some CA fee per vehicle or other obnoxious Newsom regulations that are being avoided by this. LOL, Tesla will claim the robots are not citizens and CA will throw money, cell phones, and credit cards at them?

kroven009 2026-02-26 21:21

They've tried dropping the price as much as they could and it didn't change the sales so they brought the prices back up. It's just not worth it to them to take up an entire factory for what they are heading towards.

sparx_fast 2026-02-26 21:23

It's gone. Once the lines stop moving, they're not bringing back cars with that low volume. If it wasn't for existing promises over many years, I'm not sure the roadster would be resurrected either. It's basically a vanity project.

gabrintx 2026-02-26 21:34

If the X & S go away, expect limit production of the Roadster to keep the title of the fastest production EV.

robo45h 2026-02-26 22:01

Even if it takes awhile for Optimus to sell much, keep in mind that S & X were not selling much.

Harold-Maude 2026-02-26 22:25

More BS, California and Newsom don’t have an any fees per vehicle.

They need to dump the Luxe package on the S and bring the price down by $15k like Tesla just did with the Cybertruck. S is way too expensive now. LR should be about $78k and the Plaid back in the low $90’s. Still won’t sell fast, since no real changes have been made, but will sell better than they do now. They are not moving at all in my area, but I don’t think many high end EV’s are.
