Are there any rumors of steer by wire and all wheel steering coming to other models?

Yes, Cybercab. Everything else is getting discontinued before getting steer by wire.
There is no reason for them to design and implement steer by wire on existing cars. The cost would be astronomical. I understand none of us run a car company, but this is just common sense. 48v would make more sense since it reduces costs from less wiring. But again no reason to on existing inventory.
Let’s assume Musk is willing to spend money on normal cars. Model 3 started production 2018 first full facelift came in 2024 so 6 years, so I’m guessing next major change in 2030. Then they’ll switch to 48V and if Musk is still willing to put wheels into cars steer by wire.
I see the no reason part with a recent facelift and Musks unwillingness to spend on anything but AI right now, but where do the astronomical costs for steer by wire come from? I’d dare to bet that a good engineer with access to the code, a capable port and 48v could hook up the cybertruck wheel pretty quick. Big money is in the full upgrade, 48v, 800v, structural battery, steer by wire and recertification and these won’t be done separately since these systems lean on each other and you’d need to recertify the entire car at each upgrade so doing all in one is cheaper.
No.
Where is your evidence the cost would be astronomical? It’s less parts and is in the cybercab which will be mass market. Just have to add a steering wheel. Agree on 48v
I guess he’s betting it all on FULL self driving being a thing soon. other than that teslas really losing ground. that Cadillac lyric for example is pretty close to being better than the y sans the fsd. take fsd out of it, I think an EV Mercedes c or a bmw 3 outsells the model 3. I think that’s part of the reason the x and s was canceled. sans self driving, I don’t think anyone would take an x over a bmw x suv or Mercedes suv and the prices are comparable
Future models probably, S3XY, no. It requires a 48 volt electric system. The models from before the cybertruck are all legacy 12 volt.
Unfortunately no. And this is sad because steer by wire with variable steering ratio on Cybertruck is so good. You know that feeling when you've driven a Tesla with regen brakes for awhile and get used to one pedal driving... and that makes "regular" car braking feel weird and outdated? That's what regular steering feels like after driving Cybertruck for awhile.
Even in a world of a perfectly functional Cybercab, you will have demand for steering wheels for a few human generations. Tesla will sell some form of the MY and M3 until demand is gone. In that time it'll certainly have upgrades to keep demand from flowing to other car manufacturers.
I hope you mean no, that there are no rumors, and not some silly notion that Tesla will rollover and no longer innovate. Tesla will continue to innovate and offer features that increase demand.
There are no rumors. Tesla has not shown a commitment to consistent continued innovation in traditional personal vehicles. I don’t see any reason to believe that the 3 and Y will ever receive steer by wire, nevermind all wheel steering (unnecessary), before they are discontinued by Tesla in favor of whatever Elon feels will pump up the stock price.
It would be new models. I doubt they'll update the 3/Y line.
I don’t think an EV Mercedes or EV BMW will ever outsell Tesla unless the price is equivalent. And even then, both BMW & Mercedes don’t have a great EV reputation.
Tesla will innovate as any company does. As long as demand remains for the 3 and Y, and any new products like the Cybercab don't diminish the 3 and Y entirely, the 3 and Y will be updated. Whether that includes steer by wire or other upgrades remains to be seen.
I had a Cybertruck as a loaner for 16 days and moving back to my Model S I legitimately thought something was wrong with the steering. It took me two days to feel comfortable driving it again and how slow it is in comparison.
Just because there is a demand for cars with steering wheels, it doesn’t necessarily mean Tesla will continue to make cars to fill the need. China’s EVs are approaching quality parity (if not already there) with Tesla, and the price difference may make Teslas cars less desirable. This may be why they are pushing so hard with autonomy as it may be the key differentiator.
Common sense and there is zero financial benefit for them to do this. That’s why. “Just have to add a steering wheel” lol you are so clueless about how manufacturing works.
Whatever you say…
