Does all Tesla Model S Variations have the inner tire Camber issue?

CombinationLower2010 | 2026-02-23 18:40 | 25 views

The tesla model s plaid has been the worst car on tires. Every 3-4 months need a new set because of inner wear on the tires. I tried aftermarket camber arms (helped) but then they started making creaking noises after a year. Is the 2026, 19" tires and/or Tesla Model S (non plaid) better? Or does that have the same horrible tire wear camber issues too?

I never had any wear issues with my ‘22 Model S AWD…I was on the stock 19” wheels with Continental all season tires…The tread was still fine after 35k miles

Ni987 2026-02-23 19:30

2015 model S, never had that problem. Are you running your car in permanent low suspension setting?

CombinationLower2010 2026-02-23 19:39

yes, 2021 model s plaid - this year alone 3 sets of tires ever since we removed the aftermarket camber arms to make the tires lose the oem extreme camber that causes the wear.. just replaced the 2 rears again after doing do in November 3k miles ago, its ridiculous - so was wondering if 19" non plaid S would be better since we are selling our tesla model S plaid now because we hate wasting money on tires 3-5 times a year

WilliamG007 2026-02-23 19:49

This is only a 21” wheel/tire issue.

protonecromagnon2 2026-02-23 19:56

19" tires made my problems go away.

CombinationLower2010 2026-02-23 19:56

ok thanks

CombinationLower2010 2026-02-23 19:57

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. That along with getting a non plaid.. (less torque)

WilliamG007 2026-02-23 19:58

It’s not the torque. It’s the camber. I runs 19s on my Plaid for this reason.

CombinationLower2010 2026-02-23 20:06

So 19s on plaid even with the camber don’t have inner wear and have to replace the tires every 4-5k miles ?

imacleopard 2026-02-23 20:39

To the people that saying they’re not experiencing inner wear…please. All you have to do is look at the wheels and it’s obvious as the sky is blue that they ride on the inner portion of the tire. That or yall aren’t driving lowered, and risking fucking up the axles. I don’t know about ‘26MS but basically all X and S have had this problem.

imacleopard 2026-02-23 20:40

Have 19”. Had problem. Am lowered. Fixed with aftermarket camber/toe correction arms

CombinationLower2010 2026-02-23 20:50

Thank you, thats what I have been told by a mobile tire repair company too. They said they only see on Tesla S and X and on all versions. No other cars are doing it (and even with 19") - guess no more Tesla Model S for us..

protonecromagnon2 2026-02-23 20:52

Yeah, lowering or riding in always low will amplify the camber problem.

imacleopard 2026-02-23 21:48

But riding standard and having Ok camber (still will wear on the inside unless you drive on high) will destroy axles and cause acceleration shudder once the damage is bad enough.

imacleopard 2026-02-23 21:51

You can fix the problem but not entirely. You need the alignment correction control arms on the rear and lowering links to drop the vehicle. More drop = more inline axles relative to the drive units which results in less axle wear. The correction arms allow you to appropriately correct the camber in the rear but then you have some excess camber in the front which you can’t really get rid of entirely. That being said, with this setup you should be able to see much improved tire durability.

protonecromagnon2 2026-02-23 21:51

Yup.

yrrkoon 2026-02-23 22:03

2017 S75D 19" OEM and have never ever had inner wear..

WilliamG007 2026-02-23 22:16

Correct. Plaid isn't even a factor, btw.

ASMills85 2026-02-23 22:24

My ‘14 was terrible (21”.) I bet 15k miles was as much as I ever got. My Plaid has had zero issues with this (‘22 and almost 50k miles split between two sets of wheels) but I am using 20” wheels on my Plaid which almost certainly accounts for some of this.

quentech 2026-02-23 23:56

> guess no more Tesla Model S for us.. lol do you not realize yet that no one else is burning through tires on their S Plaid's every 5000 miles I mean jfc dude come on this is a you (stomping the go pedal from every stop) or a your specific car problem (you sure your alignment's not jacked).

CombinationLower2010 2026-02-24 00:25

it's a known issue with the camber, 2021 / tesla plaid with the 21" wheels - was just curious if non plaid (less torque) 19' wheels would help (not stomping it, that was fun back in 2021, but wore off quick) and alignment is fine - [https://www.reddit.com/r/ModelX/comments/1fk45pg/recall\_for\_model\_x\_and\_model\_s\_rear\_camber\_arm/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModelX/comments/1fk45pg/recall_for_model_x_and_model_s_rear_camber_arm/)

CombinationLower2010 2026-02-24 00:57

From what I been told by the tire shop they have seen this only on the 2021+ 1000HP S/X plaids, and non plaids with 19" wheels as well just not as bad.

Big_Nerve_6612 2026-02-24 01:27

Do not keep the car in low mode as default, this only magnifies the issues as the camber angle gets worse the lower the car sits. Switching to 19s or even 20s will help a lot. It sounds like your camber arms may not be aligned properly if you are going through tires in under 15k mile intervals. Also, setting rear toe to 0 will help reduce tire wear without having substantial effects on driving. To fix your issues, I'd suggest moving to 19s and getting the car (and camber arms) aligned again with the rear camber and toe being set as close to 0 as possible. Plaid vs long range tire wear has no effect if they are being driven the exact same way and are on the same wheel/tire combo.

namestom 2026-02-24 01:45

Just did this on my X and put fresh rubber on. Hopefully it works! The alignment looks better and I only dropped it a touch to help the axles. Not looking to slam it like I’m going to a car show. Oh, mines on 22’s s as well. Crossing fingers.

imacleopard 2026-02-24 02:11

‘18 100D here. You 100% have inner wear or you drive on med or high, which means you almost certainly have acceleration shudder unless you drive like a grandma. You can see the wacky camber in the rear with the naked eye

imacleopard 2026-02-24 02:19

It’s literally the sole reason why entire companies exist: https://n2itive.me/stop-tesla-inner-tire-wear-premature-half-shaft-wear-acceleration-shudder-vibration-n2itives-adjustable-control-arms-lowering-links-for-tesla-model-s-or-x-duplicate/#:~:text=This%20shudder%20occurs%20because%20of,binding%20within%20the%20half%2Dshaft.

texelectrix 2026-02-24 07:20

I have owned a 2015 P85D and now a 2021 MS Plaid, both with 19” wheels. I’ve never experienced the abnormal wear you refer to, even to a slight degree.

texelectrix 2026-02-24 07:27

I drive at medium suspension height in town, and at low level only at high speed on the highway. No abnormal wear, 2015 P85D, 2021 MS Plaid, 19” wheels on both. I think your problem is not universal.

texelectrix 2026-02-24 07:44

Medium is my suspension height almost all the time because I’m rarely on the highway, except city freeways. No acceleration shudder, even after getting the “Ludicrous” acceleration retrofit in 2015, pushing 0-60 down to 2.8 seconds. I was addicted to Ludicrous power launches in my 2015 P85D-L for years, and never noticed any shudder. My present 2021 Plaid launches even more violently, but the novelty has worn off so I unleash it less often. But still, no shudder on hard drag-strip launch. I am driving more conservatively in recent years, but in my first five years of Model S driving, I was definitely an aggressive driver.

ltctoneo 2026-02-24 08:11

Set ride height to medium and this problem goes away, at least for me it did.
