Drove the Model S Plaid today

Today I test drove the Model S Plaid for the first time, and it reaffirmed by assessment that the Model 3 P is a much better fit for me. The M3P is a drivers car. The MSP has power / acceleration, but the sedan feeling overwhelms is as the primary feeling. I set it the dynamics at the best possible levels (heavy steering, plaid acceleration, low ride position, etc.) - its a great car, no question, and its big and comfy (though not as big n comfy as the Model X). But for me - the M3P is way (way!) more fun to drive. Just this person's opinion - so take it for what its worth.

The Model S is closer to a better all-around car.  We have a Model 3 Performance Highland and a non-Highland one too. Both are uncomfortable in the rear seats even with adaptive suspension in the former.  Model S Plaid in comfort setting is a lot more comfortable in the backseat. There’s a lot more usable vertical trunk space when traveling. But agree generally. In comparison to Model 3 Performance Highland, Model S Plaid feels like a boat - but it’s a very different car trying to do it all well.  My only advice is if you have a young kid, don’t bother with Model 3 if you are able to snag a Model S. You’ll thank yourself later for the amount of storage you get back.

The 3P drifts a hell of a lot better than the plaid! But I live for the launch of the plaid. After driving it for a few years I crave something faster. Hopefully the Roadster appears before I kick the bucket. Totally agree the 3P does some things better being a little lighter and smaller.

Did you drive a 2026 or earlier model? I just traded in my 2022 S Plaid for a 2026 S Plaid, and the difference in cabin feel is pretty nuts. Quieter, more "studio like" with a tighter suspension and in general just feels like a much better made car. At the end of the day, you're not throwing a car around corners to really take advantage of a Model 3's strengths at feeling more tossable, but the ridiculous acceleration is always usable on the S Plaid, be it 0-60, 20-50, 30-37 etc. It's just a hoot, and has never gotten old, and I've been driving an S Plaid for 5 years now in total!

To each their own. I have a MSP and use all 1020HP every time I’m in the driver seat. I will blow the doors off of anything at anytime while loaded up with a full grocery haul on the way home. 😂

Ya, thats why i said the M3p a better fit for ME, the MSP is undeniably a great car and I could see why some people would prefer it
