I’ll never pay for FSD but on the few times I had it on trial periods, those little things I learned to just accept. It can’t do everything. I learned what it can and can’t do and prepared for it. If you expect perfection, you’re going to be disappointed. Take it down a notch on expectations and enjoy what it can do.

This^ I also bought FSD and have learned that it won’t drive like *me*, but it will get me there in one way or another and honestly I just sit back and let the car do its thing and with that mindset the ride is much more enjoyable.

I lucked out and it was just a complete bonus when I bought the car so my expectations aren’t very high.
However, the initial V12 release did not do this so I have to disagree that this is me expecting perfection.
There are plenty of other quirks and bugs I could list that would be expecting perfection, but basic lane change logic? Seems like entry level stuff

This erratic lane changing nearly sparks road rage with surrounding drivers basically every time I try and use FSD. It’s the furthest thing from enjoyable.
That said, I agree with you 99% of the time. The other quirks and bugs are just overlooked and I’m not worried about them.

If it attempts a silly lane change you can flick the turn stalk/button to stop it. I’m on hw4 and it’s improved a lot but sometimes in hurry mode it still tried to leave left lane for a congested mid? I abort those and it generally won’t retry

Yeah I usually do just stop the lane change. I was just curious if anyone had figured out any other setting/speed offset options that improved it at all.
When they had the “minimal lane change” option, I would select that each time and it never did this.

Won't "Chill" mode stop it from switching lanes like this?

Jealous you even got to have such a feature. It didn’t exist by the time I started using FSD

Man it really was nice!

It does switch lanes less in chill, yes. However, I’m just talking about one specific task which is a left turn from a median on a multi lane road.
In chill, it will camp in the right lane until it’s 400-500ft from the turn and then try and rapidly cut across 3 lanes of traffic to make the turn.

My 2023 M3 with HW3 funny enough also I bought from Carvana a little while back has a similar annoying issue at times but we’ve just learned to live with it and make forced adjustments if it needs it.
For some reason even in chill mode and we’re 200 feet from our destination FSD likes to get into the farthest lane from our stop then right before we’re getting to our destination pretty much attempt to mad max it’s way into the lane it originally left because surprise surprise that was actually the lane it needed.

I’m so glad it’s not just me. I’ve driven myself nuts trying to tinker with every possible setting, adjusting speed offset etc.
Did you luck out the same way we did? Bought the car at normal price and lucked out that FSD was there? Felt like I had just hit the lottery lol

We tried messing with settings but nothing change much, we decided whenever it does it to just disengage and finish the short drive we have left driving it normally or after that interaction engage FSD again and let it finish the trip. It is annoying at times but it’s a small annoyance compared to the rest of the drive which is normally smooth as butter.
Ya they had it listed without FSD then when it showed up we had a funny little surprise it turned out to have FSD. We planned on subscribing anyways so it absolutely worked in our favor haha

Kinda why I like autopilot more.
(Speaking for HW3 Intel tho)

Beside waiting for an update (v14 lite), either use the turn signal stalk to cancel the lane change until it tries again and turn it off again lol, or disengage until it is past that scenario where it is trying.

Upgrade the car or pray for a V14 lite. I don’t think Elon is planning a V12 update of any significance.

It’s a neural network, there is no “logic”. It is what it is, you just have to take over manually in situations you know it won’t work right. I have hw3 and these times are few, but they exist.

I’m hw4, but a long time Tesla buddy told me to report and it’ll stop, so I’ve reported odd behaviors like this and fsd didn’t do it anymore. Sometimes as quick as the commute after I report it.

That and the speed changes are what I miss the most. It will always go under or way over the speed limit no matter what setting I have it on. But at least along with wanting to camp in the left lane mine will actually get in the HOV lane. Coincidently it started that right around the time that it is no longer legal here for EV’s to use the HOV lane.

I just use the turn signal to over-ride the dumbest lane changes or to force it back to the middle/right lane.
At this point it doesn't even bother me. I'm more amused by it.

There was a setting before for minimal lane changes, it has been removed and chill mode will swap to a lane it still thinks is faster (even when it usually isn't faster)

I’d say just make a report to Tesla from the FSD disengagement and I either take over or using the turn signal opposite of what the lane it’s trying to go into usually cancels the lane change

Mine screws up double turn lanes 60% of the time. I’ve just gotten used to disabling it in certain situations. I drive the same route every day and just know when it’s going to mess up. I report on the disengagements every time and I feel like some things get fixed little by little but it is a little frustrating. Regular AP just feels so clumsy in comparison - I can’t go back.
