Considering a used 23+ MS

The_Idiot_Admin | 2026-02-19 03:15 | 20 views

Anything that I should consider? Anything you wish you would have known or bought instead? Goal is a MS that will last me 8-10yrs. 50-60k budget. FSD is not super important - I liked using AP on road trips in rented M3s & MYs, but commute is only 10mi/day, and intend to do 1k+ roadtrips 1x/month and possible car camp between locations to catch zz’s, but not regular plan) (Used to have a 2016 ms I loved, and want to jump back in unless there are good reasons to look at something else) Lmk your advice, expertise, gotchas, etc before I commit

If you don’t care about FSD then HW3 vs HW4 won’t be a deal breaker for you. Pretty much only other things to look for is if it has the swivel screen, other than that they’ll all be about the same

I think you might really enjoy FSD if you are doing monthly 1000 mi road trips.

(prob dumb question) How does it differ from the autopilot - found that to be great on long boring hwys and don’t nag much when looking at the passing scenery (used in rented teslas)

Def want the new interior vs v1 interior, and jus fun car to drive. I assume they have massively improved from the ‘16 model. (Hopefully not as squeaky as the last interior in the 16 - sounded like an old wooden ship)

I commmute 50 miles each way daily. Turn it on in my drive way, turn it off when I park at the office. It’s great. Handles all my navigation.

HW3 cars will have lower resale value. Since FSD is a monthyl subscription it's perfect for you (just buy it for your trips). I just sold my AP1 Model S and upgraded to a HW4 S. FSD, on HW4 is amazing. It's like having a personal driver. HW3 wasn't nearly as good. It's probably fine on highway trips but will nag you more. The latest build of FSD for HW4 nags very little. They're at the point where it's almost unofficially alright to text and drive. It's almost unspoken acceptable at the moment.
