Yeah, cranking the wheel at a dead stop will put additional unNEEDED strain on steering components. Can you do it? Sure. Will it decrease service life of the components? Absolutely.

It’s a way of diagnosing it not a recommendation lol

Picked up a brand new 2026 model 3. The first time we went over a speed bump the car creaked and groaned. Its a known issue and was replaced under warranty

How are these still an issue? I had mine replaced under warranty due to early failure as well. 2019 model 3

I don’t know - I’d heard of it with the pre-highland model. But the suspension for Highland is ‘improved’ so…

I also warranty swapped mine at 12k. Im at 19k and i can hear it slightly again. Sounds like its coming from the right so Ill wait until its even and annoying. Did they charge you for an alignment?

One reason the first non cosmetic mods to my car will be the mountain pass front upper arms and solid lower arm bushings. Probably also get the front stock size brake and pad upgrade. And master cylinder stiffening bracket. I do intend to track and autocross the car.
Will worry about the rear only if my alignment is out its going in next week for an alignment as I just put a new set of all weather's on it and will be buying track rims/tires in coming months. It does pull slightly to the right I'm hoping that's just front toe.

Did you need to pay the diagnosis fee? They are wanting $188 to “find the problem and sounds,” when I know it’s the upper control arms that are failing on mine. I even asked if it would be under warranty and they said they would have to diagnose and that would cost to see if it’s failing and would be covered under warranty.

There was no charge although you have to agree to the inspection fee
