So did a thing…

Environmental-Lab308 | 2026-03-10 02:47 | 331 views

Lowered my new to me 2025 M3P. Also added spacers to push those OEM wheels out. Stance looks great and height is perfect. First pics are before. For the inevitable questions: AST 40mm lowering springs 14mm/17mm H&R spacers Dropped about an inch of height on my Performance. Also picked up the carat a week ago. 1100 miles direct from Tesla but not a demo car but a trade in.

But....what happened to the frunk?!

Environmental-Lab308 2026-03-10 02:53

Nothing. I pulled it to get to the shock mounts but ended up not needing to.

Pugano 2026-03-10 03:00

This probably won’t be a popular opinion, but lowering springs are usually the wrong answer. The factory suspension is designed to work with the stock springs, and when you change them the dampers often can’t handle it, which usually makes the ride quality worse. On a car as heavy as a Tesla Model 3, there really aren’t many benefits unless it’s just for looks. Form over function is never a good thing.

Environmental-Lab308 2026-03-10 03:03

Not an unpopular opinion - all things considered probably the right one. That said I’ve run lowering springs on 3 of my teslas and done full suspension swaps on 2. MPP makes a great setup for the 3/Y but I didn’t feel like dropping $3k on the setup. I won’t have this car long so springs will have to do.

RamboTrucker 2026-03-10 03:04

You forgot to add op gonna rock chip the sides of his car too Digging his garage setup and ev bus though

lyfeizfones 2026-03-10 03:06

Looks awesome! Really nice mods sir.

Environmental-Lab308 2026-03-10 03:06

That’s what the mud flaps are for and thanks! ;)

Ancient-Sandwich9400 2026-03-10 03:26

What does the alignment look like afterward? How bad is camber and toe? Looks sharp. Good low stance but the wheels spacers were too much in my opinion, I think a 5/14mm would be max that I would consider.

VincentAXM 2026-03-10 03:44

don't use spacers if you drive aggressively

exgokin 2026-03-10 04:19

I’m not sure most people realize this, but the majority of aftermarket springs are designed around the stock dampers. These springs are also designed to be installed on dampers that are in good condition. If you’re installing lowering springs on a car with some 50k miles, of course your ride will degrade. If the spring rates on the lowering springs are designed for an aftermarket damper, then hopefully the manufacturer would say so. Lowering the car is more than merely cosmetic. I installed my Dinan 30mm springs when the car only had 15k miles. I would say that my lowering springs rode better than the factory springs. The factory springs rode like a couch. Lowering the center of gravity gave my car a sharper initial turn in, and it also made fast cornering feel more stable. Next up for me will be a larger rear sway bar.

Pugano 2026-03-10 04:21

So, you are gonna just beat it to death and let the next guy deal with it. Solid plan.

Pugano 2026-03-10 04:22

Sure, and spring companies are putting the same R&D into a product as Ohlin or KW.

Fragrant-Club6802 2026-03-10 04:27

I’ve tracked my car with spacers on, there’s nothing to worry about. As long as your spacers are of good quality, it’s probably on par if not stronger than the actual hub metal used in the Tesla. I remember I got into an accident in my last Tesla last year and despite hitting the wall at 50mph, the spacer survived while the wheel cracked in half and detached from the spokes.

Disastrous-Trust-863 2026-03-10 04:29

something like this mess with the warranty?

Inevitable_Ad_711 2026-03-10 04:30

Let people mod their cars bro

Responsible-Quote318 2026-03-10 04:42

That view, holy hell! 😮

kftnyc 2026-03-10 04:57

Congrats on living in some magical place with zero potholes. Considering raising the suspension on mine.

Pugano 2026-03-10 05:12

I can't stop him, I am in disagreement on why "bro". My opinion is mine. However, I know what it does to the car. "bro" So, excuse me not giving a shit about his feelings or yours "bro". Its your money not mine. I just added a few facts "bro"

JW3B 2026-03-10 05:14

40mm drop is really really low for a model 3. Stock 2024+ M3P is only 5 inch ground clearance. You'll be around 3 inches of ground clearance! It's gonna bottom out in the middle going over almost anything.

modelplusstudio 2026-03-10 05:32

Yup yup yup!

SnooTomatoes6354 2026-03-10 05:44

Cool vibes. Did it impact consumption numbers?

VincentAXM 2026-03-10 05:52

nah mate, I used to do some racing series and still track once every 2 months. Spacers are the last thing I want on my car, especially for 14mm is a lot imo. did you upgrade your brakes if you track your m3p? Mine is getting ap 9660 with 380mm disc.

Fragrant-Club6802 2026-03-10 05:57

I think quality spacers are okay, gotta verify who made them and what material it’s made of but I’ve never had a problem with them and same for many others. I just had upgraded pads and fluid. Definitely will get bigger brakes down the line one day. Currently rebuilding a new car after the accident with the last one. The brakes that come with this car are extremely underwhelming on the track. I’ve heard good things about the ap kit tho, ur car is gonna be insane

rjcarr 2026-03-10 06:09

Yeah, the size of this guy's garage, its contents, and that view makes me think he doesn't have to worry about warranties or anything else, ha.

hi_internet_friend 2026-03-10 06:14

Looks like you're located in Salt Lake County. I'll be looking out for you; sick car 😀  I have a white 2018 Model 3 Performance with bronze wheels. Honk if you see me

Inevitable_Ad_711 2026-03-10 06:54

time for bed unc 😴 🥀

Sufficient_Olive8839 2026-03-10 06:54

You got link for those wheel caps ? Look nice

OutlandishnessNo5636 2026-03-10 07:32

Dope

cchackal 2026-03-10 09:56

So how do you go over speed bumps now

Present_Medical 2026-03-10 10:13

U drive over them

slimdizzy 2026-03-10 10:38

So did you go for an alignment afterwards? I would never do a suspension swap in my driveway. Needs the machines for precision alignment. Looks good though. The spacers do it for sure.

huh_say_what_now_ 2026-03-10 11:55

yeah a year ago i was thinking the same thing, im a mechanic and don't do anything half assed so i just ripped out the standard springs and dampers , camber arms and sway bars and fit coilovers front and rear adjustable camber arms and bigger sway bars front and rear now it handles like it should

VikLaurent 2026-03-10 12:01

Time to tint those windows brother! It’s a must!

83lilcando 2026-03-10 12:23

I did too, yesterday! Congrats to us!! 🤣😂

mealteem6 2026-03-10 12:38

Thank you for doing that thing

lordbancs 2026-03-10 12:45

Anything having to do with the suspension, of course

easy8888888 2026-03-10 14:01

Should be the first thing people do, like on the way home from picking up the car.

tonytsui666 2026-03-10 15:03

Did your front suspension creak when going over speed bumps fast? I have a 2024 M3P and ever since I got it brand new, it creaks whenever I go over speed bumps fast.

Schnitzhole 2026-03-10 15:04

The problem with spacers is less them braking (usually only happens with really dirt cheap ones) and more that they change where the rotation of the tire occurs while turning so you get more tire scrub because the arc the tire moves on while turning the wheel increases around the rotational point. it also puts more tension on wheel and suspension components while decreasing stability control and braking performance. It’s not the end of the world though. Especially if you don’t mind replacing parts more often.

VincentAXM 2026-03-10 15:35

thanks! But idk cuz the ap 9660 doesn't have dust seal so idk if it is good for daily, but the stock brakes are horrible for track.

eat_more_bacon 2026-03-10 16:55

Love the look. I wish I could do it to mine, but I already scrape on speed bumps when the kids are in the back seat. With kids in sports I go over a lot of speed bumps at rec centers, schools, and training facilities. It feels like they tend to oversize them at those places.

Omacrontron 2026-03-10 17:43

Why cheap springs and not coils?

roflmao33 2026-03-10 20:08

I hate when people say that

Regular-Comb-3549 2026-03-10 20:09

Sweet!

blessmcmahonchef 2026-03-10 20:25

Those are the Performance wheels

Fragrant-Club6802 2026-03-10 21:08

Completely right, I agree. Correct me if I’m wrong but the same occurs with low offset wheels no? Spacers also increase your overall track width which does increase handling performance. Pros and cons to it

Fragrant-Club6802 2026-03-10 21:11

I’m sure it’ll be fine, less brake dust on your wheels is a good way to look at it 😂 How’s battery life on the track? I have a performance now but I used to track the SR+ and didn’t really have to worry about battery issues. I’m hearing the performance doesn’t last that long power wise.

Hogelid 2026-03-10 23:01

NICE 😎👏

BananaShover 2026-03-11 01:56

Take your meds grandpa

BananaShover 2026-03-11 01:58

Depends. 1. Where do you live. 2 It does affect the warranty on the psrtd you changed. They aren't gonna cover aftermarket parts. 3. They have to prove without a doubt your "change" was the reason the problem exists.

wooder321 2026-03-11 02:09

I love my P3D like a father loves his child

huh_say_what_now_ 2026-03-11 03:43

im in Perth Australia and its extremely rare to see one, i guess maybe 6 months ago i saw one but the road works crews are always laying down new sections of road all the time so it would definitely be fixed by now

kftnyc 2026-03-11 03:43

Yeah unfortunately all of our tax dollars go to illegal aliens.

huh_say_what_now_ 2026-03-11 03:44

iv used spacers on all my cars over the last 20 years and i drift and street race all of them, including my 2024 model 3 performance with 20mm spacers all round

VincentAXM 2026-03-11 06:47

I track it regularly at SMSP Sydney. 4km gp layout. It is more of a long & high speed track. I normally run track mode with lowest power/mid power (the maximum endurance and improved endurance setting) with max regen for lowest power and 80% for improved endurance. Battery can last for 15 minutes without overheat but I do track night exclusively, air temp around 20 Celsius. For a typical 15 minutes session it uses around 25%, 30% and 35% for each power mode respectively(it is actually less than that cuz I have to do cool down laps for the brake in between, so the number is my safe estimate, but I reckon it is pretty accurate). There are hyundai branded supercharger at the track so I usually charged back to 80% - 95% between sessions. I am not pushing very hard on the car, if you push really really hard then may be a bit more Battery soc usage, but not much since I leave most of the margin on braking and corner speed). Overall, I think if you run the improved endurance or maximum endurance setting, it will be fine for Battery temperature. But battery temp is a big concern still depending on your track layout and temperature. SOC wise you definitely need a supercharger near the track to have fun.

Fragrant-Club6802 2026-03-11 06:57

I’m actually on the pre refresh model 3 so I don’t have any endurance settings. Seems like a simple update but Tesla has a habit of leaving older cars in the dust software development wise. I’d have to invest in an MPP cooling party controller for power limiting features. Reason I ask is because I’m in Texas and there’s literally no chargers near any of the tracks so what I arrive at the track with is what I’m limited to till lunch where I can drive to some charger to top off.

VincentAXM 2026-03-11 09:55

Btw there is a way to make the original brake work. One of the biggest reasons why tesla brakes are so shit is extremely poor ventilation for brake cooling (they did this to improve range cuz lower drag). Look into diy cooling duct for model 3 performance, someone already done it, doesn't look too complicated and you can 3d print all the parts. It is actually quite doable. If it has good cooling, then you can run stock brake caliper + better brake fluid and pads, huge money saving! The reason why race cars such as gt3 can do 24 hours endurance racing is that they have great cooling design for their brake system, very common to find 1 duct blowing air from the center hub out and one straight into the disc.

xpietoe42 2026-03-11 11:13

looks nice 👍🏻

Ok_Contact_5940 2026-03-11 16:42

With stock everything my 2019 M3 hit many times on speed bumps

movieman925 2026-03-11 17:35

Wait what is the 3rd photo?? I’m not a car dude, I don’t know shit,

badredditz 2026-03-11 17:53

Model 3 performance is lighter weight that the equivalent gasoline powered BMW m3.

johnnyboy9990 2026-03-11 18:50

View of under the frunk

movieman925 2026-03-11 18:51

Ohhhhh okay makes sense, at first I thought you put some crazy contraption IN the frunk.

elrobbo1968 2026-03-11 20:47

I have the exact same car and although they might be right on the handling part...it looks WAY better now. Would this be expensive if you have to go to a garage to get this done?

DravesHD 2026-03-11 21:43

Only thing you might want to do is loosen the 21 at the bottom of the strut, rock the car a little and tighten it back up. Just to make to properly load the bushing there.

Real-Platypus-4706 2026-03-11 21:53

before vs before

zzuper77 2026-03-12 00:43

How’s the ride? My dad has a m3 and he’s been wanting to get it done. Thinking of surprising him with it

Schnitzhole 2026-03-12 02:41

Yeah positive/negative offset can cause similar issues, and so can wider tires. There are definitely some track benefits to a wider overall wheel width, but 99% of people adding spacers are not strengthening the other necessary components that will often see 3-5x the amount of forces applied to them compared to stock setups.

ItsPea 2026-03-12 14:45

Facts

Previous-Engine2103 2026-03-12 21:35

um, why does it look like your frunk has an engine?

bboynowee 2026-03-13 03:42

Looks good ! I did the same. I’m thinking of adding stainless Steele break lines and brake master cylinder brace.

DETHCHYL 2026-03-13 16:10

Looks like Glenwood to me.

_j0nnyBrav0 2026-03-14 13:15

Mine does that too what u think it is ?

tonytsui666 2026-03-14 14:24

Most likely bad suspension quality or bad design. Ever since new, the front end of my car also makes a popping sound when turning the steering wheel. It is not as loud when the weather is warm and louder when it is cold. Does your car do that too?

_j0nnyBrav0 2026-03-14 14:46

not popping more like a creek more when its raining or cold

tonytsui666 2026-03-14 14:59

Oh ok. My car makes a creak just when going over speed bumps, regardless if its warm or cold. And the popping noise comes only when im turning the steering wheel at low speeds, such as in a parking lot. The popping noise is louder when it is cold.

Realistic-Sort-4564 2026-03-14 15:43

I already scrap stock 😂
