Lexus cockpit vs tesla observations

Wonderful_Grade2572 | 2026-03-09 02:14 | 25 views

So today when i got into a lexus and sat in the seat. I noticed it had an element of cozy. everything felt well made and within reach, the lighting was nice and i felt surrounded and comfortable. I have been driving a tesla for like 5 years and this was a crazy difference. Is there a way to make a 2021 model 3 this way through different mods.

Somewhere, there's a Lexus owner asking how to achieve the spacious uncramped feeling of the model 3 he just sat in.

gorgeousphatseal 2026-03-09 03:00

Nice you are enjoying it. Do what you like. Personally I'm all for the Tesla design

Impalmator2 2026-03-09 03:11

I had the opposite experience. I sat on a GS and was overwhelmed by the amount of devices pointing at me and the different colors and textures seeking my attention. I guess you get used to it, but I prefer Tesla’s minimalist design. One thing I would change though is I’d appreciate a real leather option. Not a fan of fake leather. You could replace some of the trim with Alcantara for a more cozy feeling. You could also add the OEM back rest and head rest accessories. I replaced the apple store wood for carbon cause -again- I didn’t appreciate the color contrast diverting my attention away from the road.

Yes, buy a Lexus.

gym4c 2026-03-09 03:42

Interesting. I cannot stand all the buttons in my mom's RX. And I didn't think the quality beat my Tesla either. I like Tesla's supple feeling "leather" vs the harder feel of Lexus' leather. It was also much harder navigating through the interface and trying to find simple things. I think you thought it was cozy, but to me it felt cramped. Because Tesla is so minimalistic, it feels more airy than the Lexus. But that's just me.

Narrow_Temporary_428 2026-03-09 03:54

I almost consider buying a lexus ev until I saw the epa range…

SchlongCopter69 2026-03-09 04:19

Yes. Buy a newer one. Lexus is notorious for being behind on tech. Case in point, been a LexYota guy my whole life. Sold 16 cylinders worth of Lexus fury to buy my Highland M3P. Now to the folks telling me nice toaster/microwave/etc… Eeeeeeeasy there, horse n buggy!

jobfedron132 2026-03-09 05:51

Highly doubt it! I had a toyota avalon, the sister of lexus ES. Sitting inside a Model 3 made me feel like, it was trying to suffocate me.

Alepale 2026-03-09 06:04

Suffocating from the spacious and minimalistic interior? Wild take, lol.

Impalmator2 2026-03-09 06:32

Right? It’s amazing how Toyota dropped the ball on EVs. After pioneering hybrid technology they ahould have been at the pole position to develop EVs, but didn’t.

Defiant-Opposite-501 2026-03-09 10:11

You're comparing Toyota's luxury offering to Tesla's previous generation entry level offering. That having been said there are a number of aftermarket upgrades (suspension, door and frunk seals, killmat) that will help.

When I got my model3 I had the seat upholstery replaced by katskinz and it was totally worth it. The seats are much softer to the touch with real leather

Ancient-Sandwich9400 2026-03-09 12:05

Lol, you prefer vinyl over actual cow leather. You must have high standards! But that does depend on how people take care of their seats. They dry out if you don’t take care of them.

Ancient-Sandwich9400 2026-03-09 12:09

Replace the vinyl seat covers and door cards with a high quality leather. You can also have the upholstery shop add plenty of cushion if you want.

Ill_Savings_8338 2026-03-09 12:09

The model 3 is a budget vehicle when you consider its TCO over 10 years / 200k miles, compare it to $25k vehicles.

pringle3x 2026-03-09 13:06

Just to add to this... there are aftermarket light mods with physical controllers and the aftermarket 'sexy' buttons. Definitely some options for customizing the interior.

Ancient-Sandwich9400 2026-03-09 13:45

Yep but I personally prefer the simple and clean interior.

gym4c 2026-03-09 14:02

Your statement makes no sense. I prefer the softer feel. It has nothing to do with material or quality. The leather seats get pretty hard in the winter but the Tesla seats remain pretty soft. And this is in response to a specific question regarding my own experience. If you’d like to share your experience with a Lexus, please go on.

origosis 2026-03-09 15:13

I feel ya. My daily driver is a model 3. And I do like how bare an open it feels. But having much easier access and a cozier feel in most other cars is nice when I rent. Especially MUCH easier to control and access things I need in other cars vs Tesla. I have never really thought of how to make it more like other cars. So I do not really have any tips for you. I can tell you a Model S is much more like a normal car in design. Lower seating position, higher center console, and such all give it that "Cozier" feel. Good luck. I am actually looking at some Lexus's right now. I do with the interiors did not look like something from 10 years ago. But the leap in material quality is noticable for sure.

beansruns 2026-03-09 16:29

Tesla simplicity is beautiful and mostly intuitive, until it gets in the way I love that I can turn on the heated seats in my 20 year old Lexus with the switch on the dash without looking, whereas my old Tesla needed me to take my eyes off the road and tap 3x

importantshare 2026-03-09 19:54

What model Lexus?

EastEgg74 2026-03-09 20:45

Unless they’ve changed the type of leather they’re using recently, it will break in and eventually become incredibly comfortable. However, if it’s that synthetic leather, this does not apply

EastEgg74 2026-03-09 20:49

Lexus seems to be struggling. A family member of mine who bought nothing but Lexus’s, went to get a new RX after their 15 year old one died, and was really disappointed with the interior and lackluster acceleration.

AlternativeSkill2590 2026-03-10 00:44

I own a 2025 model 3. Love it. Super fun to drive. Good range. Everything I wanted. My wife just got a 2026 rz 450e. Super comfy, great interior, fun to drive. Model 3 is the pinnacle of what an ev should be. The rz is the most luxurious ev. Both are great but cater to different people.

Jtuey2E 2026-03-10 14:22

You can buy a screen tilt mount so you can turn it towards you. It will make things easier to read and also easier to reach.

h3xx_rd 2026-03-10 17:23

We have a 22’ M3LR and a 24’ NX350 (Luxury trim). Both are good in their own way. The Tesla feels very functional and efficient from an interior standpoint whereas the Lexus is definitely more premium and luxury (better materials, fit, finish and quality). The tech and convenience features are vastly superior with Tesla though - better app, smart features, phone key, etc. This is a Model 3 sub so take the responses with a grain of salt. Ultimately, try both vehicles and see which one you like better.

Noob911 2026-03-10 20:41

I feel like all the nothing is closing in on me!

Old-Tip-8013 2026-03-11 00:02

Coming from a Lexus IS 350 to a new M3P was an upgrade personally. I loved my IS and enjoyed everything you mention, but the new refresh M3P is just as cozy, hugging seats with a prefect trim and accent lights, better sound system and a much better feel along with unbeatable tech. Maybe you just need a newer M3P for a real comparison?

No_Elephant_1586 2026-03-11 01:32

Teslas, as much as i love mine, dont have much of a soul. They are hollow shells of a car and thats actually why many buy them. you can install hella lighting, get S3XY buttons or whatever, but its still gonna feel empty prbably

amoeba1126 2026-03-11 03:57

I went to a 2022 Model 3 RWD from a 2012 ES350 and totally get what you mean! The Lexus had ventilated seats, leather interior, plush carpet floors and mats, super quiet cabin, and smooth soft ride. The Model 3 had super thin carpeted floors, no mats, pleather seats (still does), creaks, rattles, terrible suspension (and therefore ride quality), and loud cabin noise from wind leakage that the first SC refused to fix calling it “a characteristic of the car’s frameless design” despite acknowledging he could feel the wind coming from the top of the passenger side window. This is all in addition to probably the worst pre-purchase customer service I have ever received from a a major corporation and a complete lack thereof afterwards. That first RWD was what I considered one of the worst purchases ever.  With all that said, the Highland is a great car minus the initial lack of stalks and Tesla finally adding ventilated seats made the swam crotch causing pleather moot point.

I still have memories of the Lexus LS400 - the original - taking it up to Mercedes and BMW, or at least a decent first effort.

yogghurt22 2026-03-11 09:18

I picked up my brand new M3P last week. My other car is a land cruiser. I can’t stand how many buttons it has now. I feel so relaxed, comfy, and at ease in the Tesla.

Ashdown 2026-03-12 03:39

Totally opposite for me. This wide open space is what sold me on the Tesla.

Parapraxis2077 2026-03-12 20:29

Try a tilting screen mount, steering wheel column display, and physical control buttons that mount under the center screen.
