Bought just for Stalk but the S3XY commander is incredible.

Suvi2k | 2026-02-25 16:20 | 138 views

So I purchased the S3XY turn stalk and needed to buy a commander to connect it. Turns out the functionality the commander provides is really useful. I shared some of the controls the app has that I found very useful. \- ambient lighting (for turn signals, blind spot monitoring, hazards) you can split the lights down half the car and even control the lighting on the doors to this regards. \- right scroll wheel for shifting gears. \- passenger easy access \- lockdown seems useful down the line if I get AB Also the app doubles as a screen for using as a dash!

The link below is just for some testing I did for the stalk but I shared screenshots of the commander functionality I really liked. [stalk testing](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModel3/s/qdJY0EckY7)

Why not just get the official retrofit from Tesla

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 16:30

More/better functionality, costs less, looks just as oem and easy DIY install would be the top reasons.

drupe14 2026-02-25 16:34

So this kit is to add a stalk turning signal

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 16:37

My highland doesn’t come with a turn stalk, just buttons on the wheel. This is an aftermarket stalk that provides that functionality and more. The commander is used to connect the stalk wirelessly but it also provides so much more functionality than I imagined which I shared in this post. Shared another link in the comments which highlights how I programmed just the stalk for my liking. Hope it helps.

mrbluesky654 2026-02-25 16:47

Does it give you acceleration boost

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 16:47

No of course not. But it allows you access to the different modes easier than navigating the screen. (Kickdown)

drupe14 2026-02-25 16:48

im currently about to purchase a 2025 highland so this speaks to me. Will look into this kit and maybe will buy it. Glad to hear you like it alot

cdurbin909 2026-02-25 16:51

I’m partially tempted to just buy the commander. I don’t really care about the stalks, maybe I’d get the dial. But the commander is what I really want

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 16:52

I really tried to get used to the turn buttons and my issue would be that they didn’t work sometimes depending on where I pressed. Sometimes if you keep your finger hovering over the turn buttons, they lock for a second which also prevents use. It got frustrating so I decided stalks are a must. You may experience something similar when you get yours but can try it out for yourself and see. This was the main reason I got this but I was pleasantly surprised to see the additional features the commander provides that I think are extremely useful. I would not have got the aftermarket led dash strip if I had the commander first because at this point, it’s just there for aesthetics and all the extra functionality(blind spot monitoring, turning etc) is provided through the factory ambient lighting!

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 16:54

Yea I never thought about it this way, until now, after using it for just a few days. The knob imo isn’t worth it but I don’t have enough experience with it to say that for sure. I just needed some charging cables there instead and most of the controls I can accommodate through the other added functionality with the commander anyway.

drupe14 2026-02-25 17:00

good feedback, I will certainly try to make it work without stalks but I'm prety sure I will want/need them haha. Looks like this kit retails at $388 USD. is that what you paid?

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 17:04

So, this is one area of the company S3xy I was annoyed about. I only wanted one stalk (turn) and the commander is needed for it to work. I emailed them and they said they offer that and shared a link. I explained that the bundle (which includes two stalks) is the same price(actually 20$ cheaper) but they didn’t want to lower the price further despite missing an entire right stalk! Anyways, it was still worth it to me over the oem retrofit. I paid $403 shipped to my door. Buy the bundle and use this code “BJORN” I found online to save a little more money. Then try to sell the right stalk to someone who may like it. 👍🏽

vdek 2026-02-25 17:14

Tesla will install a stalk onto the car for $595

Worried_Produce_1046 2026-02-25 17:21

This gives you acceleration boost , and much much more, I love it! [https://ingenext.ca/products/boost-50](https://ingenext.ca/products/boost-50) https://preview.redd.it/kdbrsu42dolg1.jpeg?width=1968&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e3ff0d36d2996ab5630ce56beb48be51ca1dd68

drupe14 2026-02-25 17:24

overpriced af

-eccentric- 2026-02-25 17:32

This just tacks on and gives you even more options. But the connection can be laggy at times, as reported by owners. The tesla one is more expensive and requires a steering wheel and column swap, while still not giving you the light and wiper controls back.

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 17:34

No issues with connectivity so far but it’s only been a few days. Works as soon as sit in the car. I wonder if the connectivity issues were specific to the older generation commander and not the v2. Also the placement of the module itself.

amoeba1126 2026-02-25 18:04

Commanders ability to adjust dynamically between Chill and Standard depending on how the accelerator is used is worth the price of admission alone imo

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 18:06

I don’t have AB yet so I rarely change from standard mode but I understand what you mean. I was thinking of getting a few S3XY buttons to do this and other things personally and tucking them away.

amoeba1126 2026-02-25 18:11

Rip off considering they take away your wheel and it only does turn signaling

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 18:22

Thanks for sharing, this peaked my interest but much research is needed hah.

NJraised 2026-02-25 18:24

Omg thanks for commenting this. I was going to make a post asking if these products are still available. I couldn't find them and thought maybe Tesla found a way to block their functionality.

Worried_Produce_1046 2026-02-25 18:26

If you have an Intel chip it gets installed under the passanger side dash obc... if you have a ryzen chip it gets installed in the front door pillar obc (a bit easier), but many my car flys now. Love the added features as well. FEATURES - Add 50 HP - Drift mode - Heated rear seat - Ambient lights - Regen control - Automatic driver door opening - Automatic frunk and trunk opening with proximity sensors - Drift mode - Heated steering wheel (If your car is compatible) - Fog lights - Battery pack heating - Hard reset - Manual wiper control - Blocks TPMS alerts (BLE) - Off road mode (for dual motor only) - RWD mode (for dual motor only)

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 18:29

That’s really cool but I need to understand how it all works. None of the functionality really moves me per se since we get most of that with just other aftermarket tools(like the one being discussed here) but the boost at 1/4th cost is insane. Not to mention that Tesla hasn’t officially released AB in NA yet!

Worried_Produce_1046 2026-02-25 18:33

https://youtu.be/jA8o4TABE8E?si=f2lporp6pJlABq7s

Worried_Produce_1046 2026-02-25 18:36

Nope, a 2nd module called NICE TRY comes with the boost 50.module now, completely blocks tesla from seeing it. I've had my car in 3 or 4 times to the SC, they have never said a word to me 🤣

Lollerscooter 2026-02-25 18:39

Its the best thing ever. True wipers off changed my life.

Lollerscooter 2026-02-25 18:39

The command improves hugely on the car alone

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 18:39

Hah I haven’t used the feature because I never see rain where I live nor prefer to drive in it. Does it just change the setting for the wipers from auto to manual?

Quick_Possibility_99 2026-02-25 19:22

There is a slight delay when commander communicate with the car. So stalk not work at least 15 seconds

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 19:24

Not true at all. No delay that’s perceivable. I tested and shared the results in the below link. A 15 second delay would be insane and no one would buy it if that were true lol. https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModel3/s/BQ28PvYaKz

Suvi2k 2026-02-25 19:29

I agree now too after using it just for a few days. I really appreciate the lighting functions and scroll wheel most of all.

If you do decide you want stalks, I've got a new in box set (commander plus both stalks) I'd let go for $250. Less than the price of the standalone commander after shipping!

starkiller_bass 2026-02-25 21:44

I don't really get the appeal. If I want to accelerate less, I put my foot on the pedal less. If I want to accelerate more, I put my foot on the pedal more. The only reason I'd ever want my car in "Chill" mode is if I'm not driving it.

amoeba1126 2026-02-25 21:47

The instant acceleration can make the ride feel jerky to your passengers. By making it only kick in when needed, you make it never an issue while still having the option to accelerate when needed.

asdf4fdsa 2026-02-25 21:58

Yes, but can you install and configure it on the passenger side so they can drive while you take a rest on the driver side?

gtg465x2 2026-02-25 22:04

I use chill for a couple reasons. 1. It can be slightly more efficient in cold weather because the car doesn't heat the battery as much as it does in standard mode. 2. I'm used to launching quickly in my car because it's fun, but my wife hates it, so I put it in chill when she's riding with me just in case I have a momentary lapse of judgement and floor it. If I was focusing, I could of course just control the acceleration better in standard mode, but my muscle memory / instinct is to have no restraint, because that's how I drive most of the time, when she's not in the car.

drupe14 2026-02-25 22:32

Yes, i'm def interested! Can i ask why you're letting it go for less than retail value?

chewythecat 2026-02-25 22:38

I got a really good pre order deal and before shipping/import fees were crazy high. I'm looking at selling my 2024 this summer, so no longer needed.

drupe14 2026-02-25 23:09

Sounds good! What car are you getting next, if any ?

chewythecat 2026-02-25 23:13

Most likely a model Y with tow hitch! I'm waiting to see what the used prices look like when the standard version hits the Tesla site.

Juancho_pablo_s 2026-02-26 04:24

So can okay so I’m confused. If I want to get all this features plus turn off traction control what do I need to buy? Do I need a commander, buttons or stalk?

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 05:13

You need a commander to use any of the other s3xy physical controls (knob, stalks, buttons, etc). You can program the controls to enable or disable traction control by assigning that functionality to a specific action on one of the other additional physical devices. There’s also drift mode etc which you may find useful and related. For that feature specifically, I’d probably end up using the s3xy button. Hope that makes sense and helps.

Lollerscooter 2026-02-26 06:16

Yes exactly.  Also, I put a button in the boot that unlocks the cable. Super useful for leaving in the morning after putting your bags in the boot. These little improvements really just make the whole user experience much more.. frictionless

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 06:22

Not sure I understand what cable you’re referring to and its use. The trunk has a button to close it once open. The trunk opens if you just stand behind it or use the app. Just genuinely curious what you mean?

Nicnl 2026-02-26 11:33

The features of the commander are really cool. I got the pack with the buttons, but what I really wanted was the commander. The led strip becomes an actual useful tool (blind spot) The Kickdown feature (switch from chill to standard if you bottom the accelerator pedal) is awesome Those two features alone make it worth it

Nicnl 2026-02-26 11:37

In chill mode, the maximum motor output is limited around ~150kW. In standard mode, it goes to ~205kW. My previous car had a physical switch at the bottom of the accelerator pedal which would send maximum power (bypassing speed limiter, eco mode, etc. I really liked that feature, and I missed it a lot when I got my M3. I like being able to send it when I need to, for instance to get out of a problematic situation. (Exemple: somebody switches lanes without looking and is gonna collide, I need to get out of here fast.)

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 13:15

Probably will find the pictures from the website more useful. Dropping a link and hope you find it helpful. [S3XY Stalks](https://www.enhauto.com/products/s3xy-stalks?srsltid=AfmBOordhSnAr415X73A9J7t-16eoqbTH3eDvw2Xqs_MVQLthbZ5GDdY)

Lollerscooter 2026-02-26 13:59

Charging cable (i thought it would be obvious, because what other cable do you plug into your car regularly?)

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 14:09

Ah ok, didn’t realize. On my home charger, there’s a button on the cable handle already that you press to disengage it when you want to remove it. Similarly if you want to open the port that same button can be used. I never noticed a need for any additional unlocking/removing functionality from the charging port/cable yet so that may be what threw me off.

Lollerscooter 2026-02-26 14:13

I guess maybe you have a Tesla charger?  Every other brand charger doesn't have that button afaik, and where I live teslas home charger didn't have all the right approvals for 3 phase 11kw charging with tax reimbursement until recently BTW my button does exactly what you describe. I guess you could stick it on the charger handle if you wanted?

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 14:16

This is really helpful for my understanding of how the different modes work, thank you. I think I’m going to turn this mode on now between chill and standard and test it out.

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 14:17

Does this functionality only work from a launch? Suppose I was driving at like 25-30 and floored it, would the car switch modes. I feel like that scenario happens a lot to me when merging on highways etc and I wouldn’t want to be power limited.

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 14:19

Yea I got my charger with my Tesla and now you have clarified it a lot more for me. I think you would find it useful to have the button on the charger handle for sure rather than the trunk. It works really well.

Nicnl 2026-02-26 14:21

If you want a full comparison of chill vs standard: - Max power output: - Standard: ~208kW - Chill: ~150kW - Acceleration curve: - Standard: very sharp, pedal is very sensitive, can be a bit jerky - Chill: smoother, feels better for passengers - Heating efficiency: - Standard: keeps a slightly higher battery temperatures for max power output. - Chill: recycles some battery heat to heat up the cabin (slightly better efficiency during winter) - See the note at the bottom of [this page from the manual](https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/model3/en_us/GUID-8EAFF5D8-7209-45ED-A7E0-508FFA60C530.html) Overall I prefer chill because it's smoother But I'll admit that it is less fun that standard This is why I love the commander with kickdown: I can keep chill at all times, and use kickdown to switch to standard on demand I can use the max power when needed, tho the "sharpness" of standard isn't there soooo, yeah

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 14:24

Much appreciated. I was thinking that I’m pretty good at controlling everything manually in standard but was curious about this feature that the commander provides. Do you know if it only works from launch? I often would like chill mode(based on your description) but have the need to move quickly from a roll. (Eg: merging into a highway or passing someone on highways etc)

Nicnl 2026-02-26 14:35

Kickdown only uses how deep you press the acceleration pedal, so yes it totally works when you're rolling To be honest I almost never use it to launch: Part because switching from chill to standard takes a sec or two, so you don't have the "sharpness" of standard But mostly because when starting from 0mph... there is usually no immediate danger, so no real need to launch hard (except for fun) I personally use kickdown to get out of dangerous situations Example: somebody is changing lanes without looking, is gonna collide with me, so I need to clear up the space quickly. In this kind of situations, I press the accelerator pedal to the bottom. Kickdown ensuresthat I get full power output with no limit. As far as I know, this works well for switching between chill & standard, because it is almost entirely a software limit. But on the model 3 performance is is different: there is a third acceleration mode called "insane". Sure, the commander can (and will) ask the car to switch to insane... but max power output of "insane" mode will not be available. This is because the "insane" mode keeps the battery at a significantly warmer temperature to get the maximum power output. When the commander switches from "chill" to "insane", well... the battery don't have the required temperature so it cannot deliver max power. Personally I am not affected by this, because I own a RWD so I don't have "insane", I only have "chill" and "standard".

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 14:43

Very helpful for my understanding, I completely understand what you mean about the preheating/battery temps also. I think I would find this useful and am going to try it out sometime. I’m curious how it would work if you have AB too now…not that I have it but does AB provide an extra mode apart from chill or standard also?

gtg465x2 2026-02-26 14:44

I don’t have the commander, so it doesn’t automatically switch modes, but I do have my left steering wheel control set to control mode.

Nicnl 2026-02-26 14:45

What do you mean by "AB"? What is it?

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 14:46

Someone else helped answer my question. My guess would be that even a button will do it based on their experience.

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 14:46

Acceleration Boost, it’s an upgrade available for some of the Teslas.

Juancho_pablo_s 2026-02-26 16:08

And the buttons also does the ambient lighting fitters like the turning signals? Thanks for your help

Suvi2k 2026-02-26 16:13

That stuff you can do with the commander alone. You don’t/wont have a need for physical buttons to change those kind of settings. They are more like one and done and one of my pictures shared in this post shows some of the options with regard to ambient lighting. Once your commander is connected, you use an app on your phone to do it. No problem, happy to help.

Lollerscooter 2026-02-26 17:15

Oh the one that comes with it? I have one of those as well. I keep it under the boot floor for emergencies.  A permanent 3 phase charger is pretty cheap and is significantly better in every way, so if it is possible in your location I highly recommend it. Btw I have another (non tesla) ev, so I think placing the button there isn't great tbh. If the tesla needs to be charged, I'm usually next to it, which means it is unlocked. So I just press the charge port and it opens. So no real need for the button apart from unlocking the cable.

SnooSquirrels9064 2026-02-26 19:26

I got the commander + 4 sexy buttons combo. 3d printed a holder for the buttons to go between the lids for the cup holder and storage areas. Buttons are nice because it gives a readily accessible reverse/drive toggle along with some other nice features, plus the buttons (and probably knob, dunno about stalks) are the only way to turn on the rear fog lights in a US spec Tesla that I'm aware of.

Not sure if this is breaking the rules, but I have a set of sexy stalks (both left and right) WITHOUT a commander for sale for $150 plus shipping if anyone is interested. I sold my Highland and have no use for them now.

Suvi2k 2026-02-27 03:22

Not a bad deal, I would have jumped on this esp if you were shipping from the US.

zachg 2026-02-27 09:38

Yes it is! First "accessory" I buy on every Tesla. Damn shame Tariffs bumped up the price for those in the U.S.

The commander and a button or two

rymaples 2026-02-27 14:05

Short_the_shorts 2026-02-27 19:48

The DASH is gamechanger

Suvi2k 2026-02-27 19:52

Which one, the one on your phone or the new one they offer standalone for the car?

Short_the_shorts 2026-02-27 20:53

The stand alone one. Very informative, and to have CP is useful

Suvi2k 2026-02-28 07:58

I’d love to see this if you have a picture you don’t mind sharing. I’ve been thinking about the buttons but haven’t committed until I have time to plan how many and their usage lol. It wouldn’t be gears for me personally.

Suvi2k 2026-02-28 07:58

What do you use them for?

zachg 2026-02-28 09:47

As a safety precaution I ALWAYS turn on hazards when reversing. Now, with the push of a button, hazards go on AND car shifts into R. I have another dual-purpose button: press to open glovebox. Long press to return passenger seat to wife's preset. The button is BEHIND the screen (lower left and right corner respectively); so out of sight

That’s pretty neat, thanks for sharing it! Def cleaner than I expected. 👍🏽

SnooSquirrels9064 2026-02-28 17:41

Yeah, especially since I printed it in carbon fiber PETG. Had it just in a blue PETG at first, but wasn't a fan of the look, and that was also below I added the little bit on the bottom to keep it in place.

Suvi2k 2026-02-28 17:44

Noice. I like the little stickers that show functionality too. Unrelated but get some cup inserts to help with maintenance on the debris that get in your holders. Hard not to notice and not say something hah

strokeskid 2026-03-04 07:08

What model do you have? With FSD, standard acceleration kicks me back in my seat so I switched to chill mode and prefer the smoother acceleration so much more.

robodan918 2026-03-04 09:58

funny the knob for me is the most useful as I can add commands at a button press that used to be several taps away on the main screen - or altogether absent like opening doors for passengers I especially love the tactile buttons for media that I can just press while keeping my eyes on the road rather than tap tap tapping away with my eyes off the road was considering the dash but the built-in dash on the enhance app is pretty darned good and I prefer the magsafe mounts from spigen to the enhance auto stick on one

robodan918 2026-03-04 09:59

can you set that based on driving profile though? my wife likes the chill mode while I prefer standard (M3 LR) although I've been using chill while in the first few hundred miles of a new set of tyres

robodan918 2026-03-04 10:04

the knob is probably their best product I've also been considering the LED strip (but OFF unless blind-spot monitoring or signalling). My wife constantly leaves the blinker on after coming out of a roundabout and unfortunately doesn't do shoulder checks. Our old car had parabolic mirrors (every car should have this) and the blind spot was almost non existant

Suvi2k 2026-03-04 13:37

Agree completely regarding the phone app doubling as a screen. I can see how the knob is really useful for some people. I just don’t need anything beyond my stalks and a few s3xy buttons for now. For me it’s more about its location not providing much benefit overall to me. Not having a charging cable station in its place where it is used is something I don’t like either.

amoeba1126 2026-03-04 15:13

Not that I am aware of, sorry
