Buy better floor mats. I bought some random brand "all weather" floor mats off of Amazon and they go a few inches higher in the footwell.

Cut a piece of a carpet floor mat and install it on that area

This is the official weather mat from Tesla for my cars model and year.

I saw some all weather rubber mats that I'm going to purchase immediately. Michigan salt from the roads in the winter will destroy cloth mats in one season. I don't even have my car yet. But those are getting ordered very soon. The ones I was looking at had the dead pedal in metal which looked cool.
