New owner!! Help with Mods

SubieSTI360 | 2026-02-21 00:55 | 23 views

Ok, so I don't actually have the car yet. But ordered a 2024 M3P (blue with black interior). This is my first EV, so I'm wondering what you guys do to make your car faster/nicer/more unique. My previous cars (Mustang GT's, Subaru WRX STI's) I would do full exhaust, intake, tune... maybe some new badges and 2 piece lug nuts. On a Tesla, obviously there is no exhaust and it's pretty stupid fast out of the gate. But just curious as to what some common mods for car nuts to do. Will post pics when I get it!

PPF wrap, at least on high contact areas, seeing your paint chipped by rocks is no fun, what also is not fun is how expensive PPF is so you gotta see whats more expensive in your area. Fixing rock chips, or getting PPF

just couple ideas to help you get started: lowering springs/coilovers, I added a bunch of carbon fiber to mine inside and out but that’s a preference thing, different wheels are always an option but also a preference - I really like the oem ‘24+ m3p wheels especially without the big aero covers on so I kept mine and replaced the small covers for ones made of carbon fiber, blacked out taillights, for more uniqueness you can also set a custom lock sound you can download from online onto the usb drive in your glovebox

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 02:22

Yes. That’s a good idea. I don’t have the car yet. From the pictures it looks pretty clean but I’m sure there are chips. So I need to do that asap

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 02:28

All good ideas. Question. Why would you lower it? I lower all my cars. But this one already looks pretty slammed stock. Also how does the Tesla handle suspension upgrades? It seems like a whole different system.. I could be way wrong. I probably will end up with different wheels. I don’t hate the stock ones. But rolling on 20’s in Detroit is a recipe for disaster. My STI had 19’s and it crashed like a tank on every pothole and road imperfection. I’m tempted to put 18’s on the M3P just so I can have a tire with sidewall. But then it will look off with a gap

Own_Dragonfly6859 2026-02-21 02:39

I personally didn’t lower it bc my carbon front splitter/apron scrapes steep drops bad enough as is, but Ik of several ppl who have. I’ve been told a 1” or 1.5” drop helps ride quality a little and makes it a bit more smooth, add spacers and the fitment overall is just a bit better. If you put 18” wheels on you’ll get better mileage with your charges as well but you probably really would want to drop it at least an inch with that set up bc that gap would be pretty big.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 03:03

I’m hesitant to lower it. I’ve done lowering springs on several cars. It looks great. But rides like shit. I’m Gonna drive it a while and see how tolerable it is. But I’ll probably end up with 18’s with taller tires for comfort.. and just take the L on the looks. Roads are so so bad here..

Own_Dragonfly6859 2026-02-21 03:07

I don’t blame you at all, leave sacrificing comfort for style to the 18 year olds, your plan is probably the best bet.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 03:20

Something like this.. https://tsportline.com/products/tsr-18-tesla-model-3-wheel-set-of-4 As long as it doesn’t affect performance. That’s probably my play.

TheDavidCall 2026-02-21 03:22

Also be aware that the stock 18s will not fit over the Performance big brake kit. Only the 19s fit. As such, some 18s can fit, but they’ll have to be aftermarket. Make sure there’s clearance for the calipers.

Own_Dragonfly6859 2026-02-21 03:23

hell yeah, t sportline is a good company too, i got my front splitter from them, makes it look crazy aggressive https://preview.redd.it/bgwu1j3pnrkg1.png?width=1928&format=png&auto=webp&s=6e62f19068e594dd7f14690f23173eafeffc67a2

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 03:35

I like that a lot!! How much!! I tend to get cheap ones only because on a low car in Michigan… there’s a pretty good chance your Gonna crack it on something.. lol..

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 03:37

Yes, I’ll definitely have to research. I didn’t really know it had big brakes like my STI Brembos where clearance is an issue. I’m liking these. Obviously I’d make sure they cleared before purchase or find something similar that does.. https://tsportline.com/products/tsr-18-tesla-model-3-wheel-set-of-4

Own_Dragonfly6859 2026-02-21 04:06

it was a pretty penny since it’s completely carbon fiber, there are some decent looking ABS ones out there significantly cheaper that could still make it look more aggressive that way if you smack it on something you wouldn’t have to have a funeral afterward lmao

I also liked to mod cars before I bought a tesla I didn’t do anything to the tesla. Just drove it like a Camry … and sold it 7 months later for a huge loss an got something I can work on and modify. Currently driving a 20 year old Land Cruiser lololol

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 04:29

Yes. I’ve also driven manuals all my life. So I’m hoping the skull crushing acceleration will make me not miss rowing thru the gears and hearing the engine roar. I get what you mean and it’s why I made this post. My go two top 5 mods are not needed on this car. So it looks an awful like am you can do is cosmetic.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 04:34

Yes, that’s the one thing I cheap out on its lips. I get $100 Bayson EBay specials. But I will say. At least all tech built into this car will at least help you avoid hitting a parking block because of the front camera. I’ve killed many a lip miscalculating the height of what I’m pulling up on and how close I am. So, barring a rouge speed bump. This cars tech should help keep the lip safe from human error.

Gonna give u my two cents. Some people will disagree but this is my experience. I got to drive an S plaid soon after they came out a few years ago. It was awesome and mind blowing… for the first 5 pulls. After that, your body adjusts to the force and it doesn’t hit the same. Pulls got repetitive bc all you’re doing is mashing the pedal. I daily drove a manual heads cam new edge Mustang before I got a ‘24 model 3 LR AWD. The model 3 was boring to drive, but it was easy. After the first few day, I stopped doing pulls for “fun” because it wasn’t fun. It’s not engaging or challenging, you just sit there and the car does everything. Your body adjusts to the instant acceleration, so it stops being shocking. You got a performance model, which I’ve admittedly never been in but I imagine it’s probably slightly more fun than the LR AWD for slightly longer. Other M3P owners I’ve talked to tell me they experienced the same thing I did, that after a while the rush wears off and it’s basically a more economical Camry with a more intuitive UI/UX but more depreciation. I kept the Mustang after I got the model 3, and I had more fun driving it than the model 3, even though the 3 is much quicker. Teslas aren’t engaging to drive, the driver is very much disconnected from the actual controls of the car. I enjoyed my Tesla for what it was: a very good, arguably the best, normie commuter sedan. The most fun I’ve ever had in a car is the NA Miata I had in high school. I sold the mustang a few months ago, now I just have my Land Cruiser. I sold the Tesla bc I work from home and don’t need a commuter, and it wasn’t able to take the kinds of trips I want to take or carry as much gear or people (comfortably). It also wasn’t a cheap payment, insurance costs were unpredictable, and depreciation sucked.

tom_w45 2026-02-21 13:22

I recommend first doing the front bumper, you can do the rest later, unless you want to do a satin or matte ppf, then itll look a tad weird only with the front!

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 14:01

Pics of the spoiler and front lip. And what is the commander? I suppose I can google it but if you can give me the quick version.. I have done coils once and just lowering springs a million times. Which always looked great but rode like shit. The main factor is that I live in Detroit. My STI on 19’s rode like total shit. So I’m Gonna try the stock wheels and see how they handle the roads here. Something tells me I’m gonna get 18’s that fit so I can get a tire with sidewall and just take the L on looks.

ArtInternational6485 2026-02-21 14:34

I haven't picked up a front lip yet and I did also just get a performance spoiler copy so nothing to show there or I would. The commander hooks up behind the glove box and lets you change settings and control certain aspects of the car that you can't do in the car. For example I have a LR RWD I can use the commander to turn off all trac control and enter drift mode. I also use it to get the ambient lighting to show my turn signals and blind spots. Another favorite feature of mine is kick down mode lets me put the car in chill mode and if I push the acceleration pedal down a certain amount it will kick up to the fastest option available and once I tap the break the car will go back to chill.

ArtInternational6485 2026-02-21 14:35

The commander is definitely my favorite non-aesthetic mod at first I didn't think I would use it but I love it. They also sell buttons and something for the center console that adds physical buttons but you don't have to get those everything is accessible through the phone app.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 21:05

I will definitely check it out!! Thanks!

SubieSTI360 2026-02-21 21:08

I understand what you’re saying. And that was my stance before driving one. But I think about it like this. What you’re really comparing is Auto vs. Manual. Most fast cars (ICE and EV only come in auto).. so that’s the rub. I don’t get a manual. I’ll have to see how much it bothers me over time.

apoleonastool 2026-02-22 07:06

It's all true, but I look at it from a slightly different perspective. The Model 3 is not a fun car in a traditional sense, but it is sn extremely CAPABLE car. It smokes most other cars in a straight line acceleration as well as cornering, while being boring doing so at the same time. My dream garage is the M3 daily and a Miata/gr86 as,my fun car.

beansruns 2026-02-22 08:04

Yea I found the instant acceleration more useful than fun. Being able to move into/out of situations very quickly is a feature I didn’t think I needed in a car. I recall exactly one situation in which the instant acceleration got me out of what certainly would have been an accident in any other car. Car was merging into my line right beside me where two lanes were converging, I stepped on it to quickly jump forward and avoid the collision.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-23 13:51

Yes, the whole M series is fun but never in my price range. lol.. I've done a few Autocross in my old STI's and 1/4 miles in the STI's and Mustangs... STI was pretty good for the twisties... Mustang was too tail happy with 500 crank.. Still don't have my M3P yet but watching videos it looks like you can make it tail happy (which I would never drift, but would be nice to kick the back out if you want).

BoLuCODM 2026-02-23 16:08

If you check out ZAKGEAR on insta they make specified titanium lugs for your Tesla w a black glossy finish that I don’t see anywhere else on the market. Check it out.

SubieSTI360 2026-02-23 16:38

I’ll Google that. I don’t have the car yet. But it looks like the stock 20’s have a cover over the lugs no?

BoLuCODM 2026-02-23 16:42

Yeah they should. You can check their website out on eBay the seller has plenty of listings to choose from and u can read the reviews. Discount is good tho if u just message them
