Cleaning front camera

Lord_Vaguery | 2026-02-18 20:53 | 30 views

Watched a few videos on how to clean Highland front camera and all of them show the front camera housing just popping off with ease. For me I couldn’t get a single clip to release and that was pulling down and also using an interior pry tool around the edges. So much pressure that I thought I was going to break the glass and that’s where I ultimately had to stop. Just going to take it to Tesla when I get a chance and let them break it. I mean kudos for coming up with a rock solid design but I’d like it to be a tad easier to access for annual cleaning when the camera gets disabled from residue build up.

Wasn't going to risk it either, made appt for that plus wiper replacement in 2 days. took 30min wait. They need to figure out a plastic that doesn't outgas in the sunlight.

Just take it in. Got mine done for free last month and I didn’t make an appointment. Just went in and asked

Tesla will do it free one time.

FWIW, the currently-built Juniper Y’s have a new housing around the front camera compartment. It has a sealed gap in the front. You can see it in the online parts catalog for the Juniper these days. Presumably, since the fogging in front of the Highland’s main cameras comes from warmer VOC gasses getting into the camera housing and condensing on the cooler interior glass surface, this will keep some of the gasses out and slow down the fogging. Doubt it will completely eliminate it over time, but probably reduce it quite a bit. Edit: it doesn’t appear that the new Juniper camera housing can be retrofitted onto the Highland 3, but that’s just my guess from looking at the catalog. There’s every chance that current 3’s are getting it, I don’t have an easy way to check.

Maybe someone can experiment making their own Highland gasket.

FWIW, Tesla cleaned mine for free.

I just did mine last weekend! I watched a couple of videos and that helped me! Unfortunately, I accidently disconnected my GPS cable, so eventually had to take it apart and connect it back again!

They told me free as long as it’s under warranty

It was also free not under warranty. 2021 M3 and it was time for 12-volt battery replacement and had them do it while there.
