Freezing black looks so sexy

No-Magazine-2739 2026-02-16 09:27

Fucking AC cable stuck in car receptacle. My early 2021 M3 has a heatpump but not outlet heater.

z604 2026-02-16 09:31

-14C here My consumption goes up a bit. But not so much. Not even 30wh/km. I average 130 in summertime, I do 155 in winter. All normal given the temperature and winter tires. As usual, setting a departure time is worth it. I have the car in a heated garage, so it’s good to have it warm up there instead of outside even when it’s not plugged in. Other than that. Estimates are good, it’s not really any different than summer time except for the extra consumption.

MrMuadibas25 2026-02-16 09:35

-18° C, Sweden. LR 2019. All good here.

OnAzart 2026-02-16 10:06

same, especially when riding within the city for short distances. Constant battery and cabin preheating take quite a lot.

z604 2026-02-16 10:13

The manual says driving in chill helps with consumption, and that battery heating is used to heat the cabin. With winter ties and icy roads, it’s common sense too. I guess that adds a bit of savings as well.

Pekuliar 2026-02-16 10:32

Had a lot of ice buildup after several days of repeated snowfall and usage of car defrost. After that experience I made sure to remove all snow when readying the car in the morning. I get significantly higher consumption in winter, 50-100% more. But I guess that is life up here in the Nordics.

Talnoy 2026-02-16 11:46

From -10 to -30C in Ontario, Canada on my 2019 LR RWD. Still kicking ass.

Hopeful-Confidence-9 2026-02-16 12:22

How u open doors in that cold?

djskeets15 2026-02-16 12:24

How many miles do you lose when conditions are that cold?

h3xx_rd 2026-02-16 12:39

130 for summer time and 155 in winter is impressive. Is that for a RWD or Dual Motor? I’ve had my 22’ 3LR with AB for about 4 years now and I usually get 150-155 for summer and 165-180 for the winter. I precondition when possible as I don’t have a predictable commute/departure time. But I don’t optimize driving for efficiency at all as I’m always in Sport mode. I tried Chill Mode once but didn’t like it at all.

OnAzart 2026-02-16 12:40

I hate opening a trunk with such snow. Tesla forgot to add some guard for fools like me 😂  I got a trunk full of snow each time.

OnAzart 2026-02-16 12:41

silicone grease is a key

OnAzart 2026-02-16 12:42

probably able to go up to 150 miles at that cold. LR

djskeets15 2026-02-16 12:48

So you lose about half your range when leaving the car outside overnight? Im just thinking if you drive to work And the car sits outside for 8-10 hours in the cold, that would make you lose even more range. So essentially it's not ideal unless you have a garage to keep the car in

z604 2026-02-16 12:54

I have a 2021 Standard Range Plus. Here's a screenshot from Tessie. In the winter, it's a bit more than what I said actually. In January and February, the coldest months, I'm doing 170-180. Maybe it’s a mix of things. I am easy on the pedal, I drive on Chill… but also, my daily commute is 20km each way in a 80km/h speed limit straight road, so I don't have to accelerate much. I can go pretty steady. The rest is city driving, flat... My garage is at about 12C and I leave at the same time every day, so setting the departure time gets the battery to about 18C before leaving. And that is only charging in Superchargers. I don't have a charger at home, so the average gets a bit inflated with pre-conditioning when I go to charge once a week. When I commute to the supercharger, it peaks to 300wh/km in the cold. So if it weren’t for that it’d be close to the 155-160. https://preview.redd.it/p04kb2ijrujg1.png?width=2152&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e4699380cf08484dedb6cc669f8ecb4126d03c1

h3xx_rd 2026-02-16 13:01

That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing. I used to be in an apartment complex before so no option for an L2 charger at the parking spot. Luckily, there was a L1 outlet that I could use so I trickle charged the car for the first couple of years. Supercharged only on trips. After we moved to a home, I got an L2 charger installed and it’s been a game changer for sure. In the winter months, I use the keep climate on feature quite often and I also use dog mode when we have our pups with us. I’m in Toronto, Ontario and this winter has been particularly bad though. Specially if I’m doing a lot of shorter non-preconditioned trips and the car was parked out overnight, it easily hit 200wh/km on a few days. Most other times, it is parked inside so not as much of a drop.

I’m trying to understand wh/mi more and I feel like my MYP has insane levels. I’m averaging 300-350 with highway driving in 40-50F weather going around 75 mph. Does this sound normal?

natecarlson 2026-02-16 14:15

At about -10f in my Highland the defogger stops successfully keeping the side windows clear on longer trips (both times it has been cold enough for this the has also been active snow, so some snow melt from people's shoes on the rubber floor mats, which is certainly not helping), and I have to play with manual settings to get enough air flowing. The time it hit around -25f I just couldn't get it to keep the driver's window clear without the heat on max, which was not fun. Efficiency really seems to drop off starting around 15f, and gets worse as it gets colder.

Read-the-read 2026-02-16 14:20

I have a rwd long range 25 and I average just about 320 wh/m. But that’s with some uhh, pretty spirited driving. I’m not nice to my M3 lol, I think my lifetime average is 300 something, that’s from June to February timeline Indiana.

Hollowbound 2026-02-16 14:21

How do you see the lifetime average?

Read-the-read 2026-02-16 14:24

Well when I bought the car I reset the trip b meter after maybe the first couple miles of having it and have no reset trip b sense. But if you didn’t do that I’m pretty sure you can’t technically see it without doing math. What I would do is go in the Tesla app and see how many kw you used from the charge stats or whatever it shows and then divide it with your miles and you should be able to know your lifetime average

KevinDohertyy 2026-02-16 14:33

what flavor is it

Mocchanyen 2026-02-16 14:50

I wonder how LFP cells would handle that. I had -5°C outside and didn't preheat the car. Regenerative braking was completely disabled the entire drive, plugged it into the 11kW AC charger and it had to preheat the battery for like 15min until it was able to even start charging

ackillesBAC 2026-02-16 15:14

Yup Edmontonian here, 2023 lfp rwd. -35 is the lowest tessie reports for the last 3 years, still the best winter vehicle I've ever owned.

Stuic 2026-02-16 15:57

My snow edition. About -5 to -10c. After a week of standing still the doors can be a bit tricky to close after opening, but after some minutes of heating they work like normal. Other than that it's the same car, but with some higher usage. With sentry turned off it only lost like 5% charge (and car was opened a few times and accessed through the app), but no driving. 2023 Highland LR AWD https://preview.redd.it/nyupl28rpvjg1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=efbef1dc156c0bd3fbd66d197d6fbb07b7be6d95

Frozen headlights do not defrost.

NotYourDad_Miss 2026-02-16 20:17

They don't. And they die very fast at those temperatures. In 2 years BYD will have issues in Norway... battery packs to replace.

This and the wheelwells gather ridiculous amouts of ice and snow, which some how broke/disconnected my front harness(park sensors)
