Wheel Damage

Kooter37 | 2026-02-14 23:20 | 26 views

I recently purchased a 2020 Model 3 and it has some wheel damage. I’m guessing the previous owner had a couple encounters with some curbs. I’m going to attempt to sand and use some touch-up paint on these really bad spots. I know I could just replace them, but I’d rather not.

Ok

Haha I wanted to ask for advice/suggestions and it wouldn’t let me.

😄 I understand. To be honest, them scuffs look very minor. You could put some masking tape on the tire, sand the area lightly, then use a touch up pen to hide the damage.  If it’s deep you could use some filler but it doesn’t look too bad in your photos.  If you are replacing your tyres at any stage, you can get ones with a proud lip on the sidewall that overhangs the alloy protecting them from scrapes.

Idk how people manage to do this. It’s not hard to not hit the curbs.

Before you use touchup paint, get a small file and try and smooth it out, especially the really bad rash, will make the outcome a bit better

You just don't drive enough

I drive plenty, I just look where I’m going.

And you’re the one who sucks the fun out of Reddit.

Highway potholes. Go drive on I-5 in Warshington. If the rim catches the edge of a pothole you’ll get sidewalk damage and rim damage

Yeah I’m going to try some sandpaper, 800 grit to start with. I think that and a touch up pen will work pretty good.

I drive a Model 3 in WA every day. Zero scratches.

The car literally has a blind spot camera when you hit your turn signals. One of the easiest cars to avoid hitting curbs.

I've had my 23 M3P for 3 days.. already curbed the passenger front rim and passenger rear rim... 8 ( I've never done that before! Burn and Learn... but these fantastic little beast are a blast to drive, own and enjoy!

To be fair I have had a company car for the last 14 years... and for the last 3 it's been a Chevy Traverse... Imagine not really owning a car for the last 14 years... then you own a Tesla... Timehop!

Just pop over to an alloy refurb place.. in UK that would be around 60-100 quid to refurb..

I tried to get help via this sub (you know, the sub for model 3s) but the mods told me ‘this is not a support sub’ Lol ok. Guess we need more ‘joined the club’ posts with a picture of a stock 2023 Model 3 instead of something people might actually find useful.

Sand it with 400 grit first then 100 grit

Kooter37 2026-02-21 02:05

Haha that’s funny.
