What a silly naming scheme !

Don’t forget when you talk to AI, which references a lot of old posts or documentation in teslas not so updated parts of website, they’ll get confused with outdated naming like Longe Range or Standard Longe Range and all that crap that no longer exists

Similar to any facelift model ever, it'll just be known moving forward as pre-x year or pre-standard version. Not to mention, who really cares? How often are you explaining to someone which specific model of the car you've purchased unless you're gloating on forums all day... It really doesn't matter! Now where it may become a problem, which I agree with, is resell/when people are purchasing in the used market.

It doesn't really matter TBH. Your VIN has all the details of your car encoded in it. So for insurance/registration reasons it's all automated now. Trim names have always been a disaster for most of the cars I have owned.

Yeah except that the VIN identification has never been 100% reliable. I've had many cars over the years be wrongly identified by insurance and maintenance systems.

Yea I just found out about this too. Atleast they have more versions now. I personally would have liked a rwd where I live (no snow ever) but settled for the AWD because I wanted the better sound system mainly. I guess it’s nice that it’s faster too.

When I leased (July 2025), ~~the RWD and AWD had same audio system, so~~ it was today's "Premium" version. *Edit:* How do I check? I didn't pay too much attention to audio at the time There was no cheaper/"standard" version at the time. $299/mo _(and free red color)_ was very good price for 3yr lease at the time. In comparison, today's cheapest lease is $449 for the std RWD, and is $499 for the premium RWD

Interesting, I purchased my 2025 m3 in September and it was clearly laid out on the site that there was differences. I am in the US though.

I take back my earlier statement a bit. I didn't pay attention to audio specs at the time, there was a quick-action pressure because the free red upgrade was going fast

I got that upgrade for paint for ultra red for free because of limited inventory at the time where I live. Was fortunate to get the ev credit before expiration also. I’m overall happy I chose the AWD for a bit more.

I am no audiophile but my 2023 MYLR AWD does seem to have more "enveloping" sound

So the official trim of my car "Model 3 RWD" is now the name of a much cheaper and generally panned trim

Why is this important to you?

Because now if I talk about my "Model 3 RWD" people (and AI agents) think I am talking about the cheaper erstwhile standard model with cloth seats and all the other adult cost cutting measures
