I use chill during most of the winter in my SR+. No reason to risk losing traction just to look cool.
Chill will just make it colder…

I used it once on a clear 80 degree day and almost died. Couldn't speed up fast enough entering an interstate at 70mph haha

I wore through 2 sets of tires in 3.5 years. I don’t even hit hard accelerations much. So now I’m trying chill mode, hopefully I get through more than 15k miles this time around 😞 my old car probably had 2 sets of tires through 7 years and 70 miles.
I'm at 13.1k miles currently but my wife drives it 50% of the time so maybe i can extend it to 20-20k miles haha

Someone on this subreddit posted that Chill mode is actually worse for slippery climates. Sport mode keeps the motors more active for regen, making them responsive to slip. 100% not totally scientific on this one… just read it somewhere so I tried it on a ski trip recently in very tough conditions… it seemed to work out fine? 🤷

Not necessary the car completely cuts power in milliseconds when slippage is detected, regardless of power mode
In chill mode I can slip and see the traction control light blink like crazy until it gets traction. With standard mode you're more likely to lose enough traction for the system to completely cut power. Having all that initial torque causes more problems in the snow
Mine just completely cuts power at the first hint of wheel spin in either mode, I try like crazy to have fun in the snow and sometimes wet pavement and it isn’t having it. It feels like a 5 horsepower car when TC intervenes. 2025 LR RWD

Yep… tore through the stock perellis in like 7.5K and was like “well crap, imma go broke on tires with this thing”. Switched to 19s for the wheels and Michelin sport all seasons and they are lasting forever.
This - the traction control update loop on Teslas runs at 100 hz, regardless of chill or standard. That means it’s adjusting the individual torque of all 4 wheels (for long range or performance) 100 times a second when it detects slippage. That’s insanely quick compared to most other traction controls. The only difference is chill limits the torque applied if you mash it, so you may not actually get slippage, but who puts the pedal to the mat in the snow anyway? recovery profile when it happens is the same. Insane and track mode will actually allow some slippage before recovery mode for some sporty fun but that’s a bit of a different issue.
It doesn't even take "mashing it". Giving it a bit more juice to maintain speed when you start going up a hill can cause a bit of slippage in the right conditions. From a stop, chill mode makes starting out in slippery conditions much more predictable thanks to its much more lenient power curve. But MAN do I hate using chill mode when I feel the need to! Lol
Downsizing is the way! I downsized to 18”, 235/45/18 Pilot Sport 4S tires! Also, don’t need the T0 “EV” tires I found the sound is very minimal but maybe that’s just me.. don’t see the point in paying for more. I pay about $230 per tire at my local shop 😋
