M3 LR Highland slips a bit in the snow
Rear end sliding out. Nothing crazy, reminds me of my old rear wheel drive cars from high school. Haven’t tried any parking lot donuts. Yet. 🤪 On OE all seasons BTW.

Ok... What's the point of this post? My M3 RWD also slips in the snow
Kinda normal for a car to do that.
Mine sometimes slips a bit in the snow too.
Honestly the OEM tires are trash. Mine were worn pretty far at only 8000 miles and felt dangerous in anything more than light snow. Believe they were Michelin Primacy A/S Replaced with CrossClimate 2 and now the car feels much more controllable in bad weather
That’s the result of 300+hp on your rear wheels
Yeah, mine does too, especially when I try to get it sideways. Kinda fun that it lets you do that, some cars don't.
My M3 gets wet when it rains
LR RWD or LR AWD?
Happens. On AWD you can slip with both ends when flooring it after a red light. Can be a bit scary for some if they're not used to it. But the traction control is great and fast for the most part.
LR RWD
They had Michelin winter tires? Odd. I had Nokian from them
Insightful. Thanks. Not sure how I would have gotten through the day without your wit and wisdom
Mine are the Michelin as well. I’ve got about 7k on them and they are holding up well so far
It’s a conversation on slipping and sliding in winter weather with a Tesla. I thought that was obvious. It can go a number of ways: 1. Who’s out there having fun with it? 2. Any tips to minimize the effect? 3. Snarkiness Does that help?
Not if you’ve been driving a front wheel drive for a number of years and are new to Tesla and its weight.
No that's the result of having rwd. Even cars with 100hp slip in snow.
No it's not obvious. There's no conversation starter you just said it slipped in the snow... That's like posting "My car got wet today in the rain. Nothing crazy, reminded me of my old car which also got wet in the rain. Haven't tried Driving through puddles. Yet."
Hopefully it’s obvious now and your medium confusion has been lowered. And you do know you can scroll past posts that don’t interest you or you find confusing or stupid. But thanks for stopping by. This was fun
I live near a lot of snow so RWD wasn't on my radar. AWD drives great in the snow
The deal I got for mine was too good to pass up - $299/mo for 2-year lease w/10,000 miles per year. Typically we do t get as much snow as we have these last few days. I’m not concerned. It really just brought back memories of driving in Buffalo NY back in the day with my Chevy Nova II and doing dumb things in the parking lot with my friends.
You can't do donuts, because the traction control can't be turned off. You can enable slip start, but it only allows for minimum slip, so you can do 1/10th of a donut at best.
Probably true. I’m going to test that theory in the name of science. Hopefully the cameras will capture whatever I’m able to do
As others have pointed out I think it’s important to clarify RWD v AWD in your post. That said, I’m in Maine and my AWD M3 is also sliding a lot more often than I recall in my first winter. Not sure if it’s because this winter has been so much nastier, but the only thing that’s changed is that I went from OE tires to the Michelin cc2s. I can’t imagine that’s made my traction worse but I’m not sure what else would explain it. I will say that traction control is really amazing and skids never extend to the point of danger. Just a quick bump in the good ole heart rate.
Yep an oversight on my part. It is RWD.
Our 23 MYP does this as well. It never actually spins out, just slightly slips when cornering or even slowing in a straight line. My wife hates it but I got used to it once I realized that the car is heavy, rear wheel biased and you cannot really turn off regenerative braking. Also I cannot get it to spin out on purpose because the traction control is doing a good job.
Amazing. Rear wheel drive car behaves like a rear wheel drive car...
How’s the road noise with those? I’m going to need to replace mine in about a year and was thinking about getting them.
Not too bad, I was expecting them to be much worse. A little louder than OEM, but very reasonable When I was researching, I heard they get a little louder as they wear down, but I only installed them two weeks ago, so we'll see lol So far I am in love with these, handling this winter weather really well
All weather tires helped, but next time I'm going full winter on studs.
