Sound system in my new model 3 is amazing!!

Junkbondman69 | 2026-01-24 22:43 | 27 views

I accidentally figured out the audio settings and with that found out you can boost the subwoofers and bass all the way. Boy does that thing shake the whole car like you have a huge subwoofer box in the trunk. It’s a pretty remarkable sound system for what’s an amazing car already.

Just wait buddy. Summer time comes and the rattles begin. The sub woofer placement in the M3 is moronic poor design.

Why in summer?

"..found out you can boost the subwoofers and bass all the way." Please don't do this.

Only in American made Teslas.

What do you need the sub for? Surely you're only playing Bach and Vivaldi?

coastisthemost 2026-01-25 03:15

It's a very nice sound system, one of the best things about the car.

My Aussie delivered one is going great in summer

Unless you're deaf and need the vibration, boosting the subwoofer and bass to the max is an objectively terrible way to listen to music.

The sound system is definitely great if you have the 15 speakers + 2 subs. My ‘22M3LR had no rattles from the sound system but my ‘25M3P had a nasty one stemming from the sub area. I’ve debated on taking it in for service but really didn’t want them touching my car (always playing roulette with service…). Anyway, I said “had” cause I was able to fix it with some half inch foam rod. There’s a Tesla forum that covered this and it worked for me!

I've commented on this before but the system is designed with a pretty good "flat" EQ curve for listening to the kind of compressed music we get on Spotify. Although the EQ in the car doesn't provide a whole lot of real control it is generally good practice that when you add energy by boosting one frequency range you take it away in another frequency range. This helps maintain the balance in the system and should keep you from overloading the inputs to the amp (which causes distortion and can damage the speakers over time). That being said, the system isn't linear (it doesn't sound the same at low volumes as it does at higher volumes). I find it tends to lack low end and clarity at lower volumes so if you listen at low volume and want a little more rumble boosting the sub can help. I would love to actually see what they do for filters to make the system sound as good as it does. With FIR filters, you can make pretty generic speakers sound pretty good. Since they have a full blown computer in there that only does infotainment, they've got enough processing power to really play with things. I'm a former touring PA tech and current pro audio system designer. Sound is very subjective and my opinions are just opinions.

thanks for your comment, I found it quite interesting. It all makes sense knowing Elon/Tesla , and the team he assembled to put these sound systems together.🥃

Same car same year same thing. What do I do???

Bixnoodby 2026-01-25 18:41

They did a real shit job installing mine… A lot of rattles all over the car while listening to music

Bixnoodby 2026-01-25 19:31

Not him but I found that the rear window glass and the trunk deck (or however you call the thing that the subwoofers are mounted on) were touching. Poorly installed / inadequate foam lining between them. I bought some [foam](https://www.biltema.no/bil---mc/bilstereo/bilstereo-tilbehor/dempemateriale-for-hoyttalere-400-x-600-mm-5-stk--2000018639?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20567858629&gclid=Cj0KCQiAm9fLBhCQARIsAJoNOcsi-UBdyc_SYv1VXtCePclSZGauo_dlOZqKhhN42Xqf7SHR4JywlFEaAkeAEALw_wcB), cut a long strip and stuffed it in between. I’m still going to try and get them to fix it properly with their own materials, because it doesn’t look all too great

meamacaveman 2026-01-25 19:52

Dude this is exactly it! TYSM!!!

Agreed! I had to turn down the sub and first bass band a little in my 2022 M3P because it was a little too loud. A sub shouldn't really stand out, it should fit nicely with the rest of the setup and just add a little oomph to the low frequencies. In other words, if you can hear the sub as distinct from the rest it isn't good. But I'm also a little picky when it comes to good audio, some people might actually like a sub that's out of control.

the_runner213 2026-01-27 01:38

I used a half inch foam road that I bought from Amazon. They only had gray, which sucks cause you can see if if you’re in the back staring at it. Anyway, just like what @bixoodby said you just push the foam into where the glass and the deck meets. There should be enough room to shove/wedge between them all around. That solved my rattle issues. Let me know if that works for you!

MichaelRahmani 2026-01-27 06:46

I fixed the rattling by placing tubing between the rear glass

MichaelRahmani 2026-01-27 06:47

Same but I fixed it by placing tubing in between the rear glass

Would you be able to share a picture?

Away-Scar7754 2026-01-28 14:56

Are there aftermarket modes to improve sound quality? I have a 25 M3LR

SmokeySFW 2026-01-29 14:31

Because boosting the bass that far sounds awful and is far from what the artist intended. That is of course a totally subjective opinion. But if you were wondering, no harm is done to the sounds system by boosting the lows.
