USB-C charger and cigarette lighter port

N0LimitInvesting | 2026-01-23 13:16 | 27 views

I am an M3 2023 owner and I have purchased a charging station. This is permanently connected via the two USB-C ports. I have also purchased ambient lighting, which is also permanently connected via the cigarette lighter port. Do I need to worry about power consumption when the car is switched off. In other words, do these two devices also consume power when switched off or should I unplug them every time for safety reasons. Thank you in advance for your help!

The car knows whether accessories are plugged in or not and you can adjust whether the ports are powered with the car off. Controls -> Charging -> Keep accessory power on - gives you the choice to power off the ports and plug when the car is asleep. Note - this appears to be best to leave off, unless you need it, as it seems to keep other bits of the car awake too, and it hogs the battery. Low power mode disables them (automatically at 20% but you can manually turn that on)
