New Tesla Owner Soon!

StinchinStein | 2026-01-23 04:25 | 111 views

I found a 2018 Tesla Model 3 RWD LR for around $11,200 with around 93,055 miles on it. Test drove it today and absolutely loved the car. No noises, no pulling, no wheel bearing noises. Put it up on a lift, vehicle looks great underneath with zero rust. Interior is immaculate. Only "issues" I've found is a super small crack in the windshield on the top passenger corner, and a dent in the rear passenger rocker panel. This is the first full electric vehicle I'm buying. I looked at a 2020 IONIQ EV but the low miles per charge scared me (170 miles). I rarely drive, but I just couldn't pull the trigger a few years ago. I currently drive a '21 IONIQ Plug-In, but making the transition to full EV is a no brainer with how little I drive. I'm super excited to actually get into this car permanently!

Great price! What’s the range?

StinchinStein 2026-01-23 16:31

Letting it charge up now, I’ll have a better idea later.

I have found that Reccurent is pretty accurate for determining battery performance. [https://app.recurrentauto.com/](https://app.recurrentauto.com/) My 2019 M3P had a score of 92% battery health with 47k miles. I though that was inaccurate, so I did a battery test on the car itself...91% is what it came back as. I recently moved into a new position at work and travel a lot more now (about 2000 miles a month). Aside from adjusting my arrival SOC a bit, I have never worried about it getting me there safely.

StinchinStein 2026-01-24 00:59

210 miles at 80% SOC (according to the guess-o-meter). It is winter as well so that could definitely play a factor in it. Still learning about the whole thing but seems good so far.

StinchinStein 2026-01-24 00:59

Good to know! I'll keep that in mind.

StinchinStein 2026-01-24 06:52

Car finally added to my account after 2 days. Seems like I have free premium connectivity? Does anyone know if this is permanent? https://preview.redd.it/hwg8rz0lv8fg1.jpeg?width=1206&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6610a6c797b689e656935b266829efa936257003

It might only be for the first month. I got a 1-month free trial when I bought my used M3, but then I had to pay. You should check it under the "Software" tab in the car. Also, enjoy your new car!

StinchinStein 2026-01-24 12:30

Good to know, I posted it on r/TeslaSupport as well and people were saying it's permanent. I will definitely check in the Software tab next time I'm in the car though to confirm. Just curious, what year and how many miles on your car? Any idea on range on a 80% (or full) charge? I'm absolutely loving mine and I wish I found it years ago haha

HypnotizedGenius 2026-01-24 12:35

Mine is an '18 RWD LR with 82k miles on it. I don't remember the range at 80% as I haven't charged it up to 80% in a while (I keep it between 30-70%), but it was similar to yours if I remember correctly.

StinchinStein 2026-01-24 12:42

Okay, nice. I have my charge limited to 80% right now which is why I asked. Should I lower it to 70 you think? The previous owner had it limited at 55% (or the previous dealer), so I just upped it to 80% since I know that's a good number for smart phones too lol Good to know it's similar in range from what you remember. I wish I got it in the summer so I could see how it is then, haha

HypnotizedGenius 2026-01-24 12:49

If I could charge every day at home, I would set the limit to somewhere between 50-60% and always keep it plugged in. Since I can't always charge at home I set the limit to 70%, but my daily commute is not long. If your commute is longer and you can't charge at home, set it somewhere between 70-80%. It's safe for the battery as long as you keep it in the 20-80% range.

StinchinStein 2026-01-24 12:51

Unfortunately I can't charge at home right now, hoping to get setup soon. I do have a charger at work though, so that helps a lot. Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it.

HypnotizedGenius 2026-01-24 12:54

Of course!

Seansong82 2026-01-24 13:13

I would run a battery check on it, you still have 5k miles of warranty I believe.

Kooter37 2026-01-24 13:56

Seems like a decent price. I just got a 2020 Model 3 RWD standard range plus with 78k miles for $13,000. At 80% charge my range is 158 miles. It’s also my first EV and I absolutely love it. I have a short commute to work and just plug it in when I get home everyday. Good luck on your new adventure!

LaSoga24 2026-01-24 23:53

He got more actually, they give you 120k miles or till July of this year for a 2018. I just got one and thats what it says on my app

JtheNinja 2026-01-25 03:47

That rocker panel is steel, so you might want to check on closing that scrape from rust. There's a chip guard strip there under the paint, so it needs to be pretty deep to expose the metal. But something to be aware of.

StinchinStein 2026-01-25 04:15

I appreciate the concern, I worked on the car earlier today. I left it in the garage for paint to dry. The front side of the rocker panel on the passenger side was also chipped and just barely started to rust. I sanded it down until it was bare metal and painted it to slow down the process (primer, basecoat and clearcoat). Also got mud flaps on order for Monday delivery. https://preview.redd.it/zg9utdfa8ffg1.png?width=1440&format=png&auto=webp&s=b1add91eb710a9ea54b251b66296113d24e85af8

Remote_Gazelle_6674 2026-01-25 04:16

Just to let you know, you can charge with a wall outlet just fine. Like a regular wall outlet. I charge about 20 percent overnight

Remote_Gazelle_6674 2026-01-25 04:16

Also that’s awesome. I have a 20 lr with around the same range that I paid double for lol

StinchinStein 2026-01-25 04:18

It pays off working for my uncle that owns a used car dealership haha. Only downside is I'm buying it as-is.

StinchinStein 2026-01-25 04:19

This seems correct. I believe my app said June 2026 or 120k miles. Whichever comes first.

StinchinStein 2026-01-25 04:20

I am aware of that, believe it or not, haha. I'm trying to buy my parents house, so I'm trying to not jack up the electricity bill for them until I own the house later this year. And I can charge at work for free.

Wow lucky guy

Leyvaman-MX 2026-01-25 16:59

Your screen would have a renewal or cancelation date, if it was just subscribed…yours is permanent 👍

StinchinStein 2026-01-25 17:01

I forgot to share my picture of the screen. I’m assuming it’s included permanently based on it. https://preview.redd.it/phacnnb31jfg1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec68a877d25e394f1885d035aaed9a50d115fb57

Former 2020 Ioniq EV owner who now has a 2025 LR RWD Model 3. You made a good choice! The Ioniq was a great car but the limited range was even worse in the cold, 130-140 miles per charge at 100% (it was a lease so I always charged to 100) enjoy the Model 3 and welcome to the Tesla lifestyle :)

StinchinStein 2026-01-26 00:04

I'm really hoping I'll love it long term. It's an amazing car so far (even though I haven't driven it in 2 days lol) It's been in my garage letting paint dry on the rockers. I put paint, clearcoat, AND chip guard on it with mud flaps coming on the way to hopefully prevent the rocker rust problem that the earlier models have. I don't know how pre 2020 Ioniq owners could have survived, those have 124 miles range BASE. I could never haha The Tesla is definitely different than my plug-in Ioniq, but that's not a bad thing. I love the interior of both cars.

ianbphoto 2026-01-26 01:53

My first EV was a 2015 BMW i3 range extender. It got 80 miles of range in the summer, roughly 55-60 in the winter. Then the tiny gas backup engine. It’s crazy how far technology has come in the past 10 years. The Model 3 I also charge to 100% most of the time but again I lease all of my EV’s. You’ll enjoy it though. Take some time to play around with the features in your garage or driveway. Really get to know the car. It’s pretty amazing the technology these things have and make sure you connect it to your home WiFi to stay up to date with software updates!

StinchinStein 2026-01-26 02:12

How's not having stalks for shifting and blinkers? haha.. I only realized recently the newer M3s don't have those. I like the tactile feel of the stalks of the one I just bought.

Elka_T 2026-01-26 07:23

Welcome to the Tesla family, and you’re now a member of the Blue Crew! I’ve got a ‘25 Blue M3 RWD with white interior and love it more and more every time I drive it. Enjoy your new Tesla!

Tradetheday2093 2026-01-27 04:10

Thats good. At this point if you can afford it, see if they let you upgrade to FSD for $2k. That would be some good value. Also are you going to try to fix the windshield crack with epoxy?

StinchinStein 2026-01-27 04:24

FSD is available for $2,000, however it is unfortunately not within my budget right now. Hopefully it stays as an option for a future decision, but I'm not keeping my hopes up haha I'm probably going to leave the crack as is, and just replace the windshield if it gets worse to the point that it's dangerous. I had asked someone about epoxying it, but they said it wouldn't work well since the crack goes right to the edge of the glass. I guess if it's in the center it would work a lot better?

Tradetheday2093 2026-01-27 05:03

Gotcha good luck man, hope you get a chance to buy it. Would it hurt to try to repair it with the crack repair kits? at least slow down the crack to give you time to save up money. (lol not tell you what to do, just a thought since you mentioned waiting till it gets worse then replace)

StinchinStein 2026-02-10 17:04

I did a battery health test last night https://preview.redd.it/a6kv8kd78pig1.jpeg?width=1206&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a07439bc3eec2daf1d8dcc3df14e65d190b5ca7c Seems pretty good for its age.
