Which lights did you use for the dome lights? I was thinking of doing this as well, as a former BMW driver 😁

It shouldn’t affect it, they normally cut the tint around the camera housing. On my MY, I did 50% Windshield, 5% everything else. Don’t bother with the glass roof, it’s already at like 2%.

That means they didn’t cut out the tint from the camera portion. Any other shop cuts around the camera so FSD has no issues. Bad install. Nice lights but if they do it right you don’t need that. It’s a distraction.

The situation im describing FSD not working is on rural wisconsin roads without any street lighting, so there isn't any light to see me with, the cabin is pitch black. This 100% fixes it.

My aunt is sensitive to light and has her front windshield tinted. It's a medical exception. She's not braindead, she just doesn't want watering eyes when it's bright outside.

There’s plenty of people using 90% or 70% tint on their front windshields and you’d have no idea. Even 35% tint in the front you can still see the driver from outside during the day but you don’t see much.
If you’re talking about people that black out tint their front windshields so it’s impossible to see in and hard to see out at night then yes I agree.
Edit: For those that are unfamiliar with window tint percents. https://windowfilmpros.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/automotive-tint-percentages-shades.png
In my state 70% is the legal limit for windshield tint. It’s still see through from the outside but it helps with sun-glare when not using sunglasses and it blocks 99% of UV light and a good amount of infrared light so it protects the interior from sun damage.

Da_Spooky_Ghost

90% lets 90% of the light in…. It’s basically see through, this is the problem with all the Karens that complain about window tint they have no idea what they are talking about
generalemiel
2026-01-21 13:39
Not the otherway around? From my understanding it meant blocks 90% light (so essentially black)

Looks like an RC car. They do that on toys so you can’t see the electrics and stuff inside. Then people thought it looked cool so they started doing it to real automobiles. 🤷♂️
Be careful out there. If you get in a crash it’s going to be extra hard to explain that it wasn’t your fault when you can’t clearly see out of the car.

90% lets 90% of visible light through but it can block 99% of UV light so it protects the occupants and protects the interior from sun damage. I have 70% on the windshields of my Model X and 3 but it blocks 99% of UV light. Yes window tint percents are counter intuitive and people that never use tints always get it wrong.

My front windshield is tinted with 70% tint. You would never notice that it’s tinted. But it blocks UV rays and heat. For a pasty white guy like me, blocking UV is a huge improvement.

No, it’s just not that big of a deal especially if you’re not riding around in a car that looks stolen.. I’ve had it for over a decade, multiple cars. Cops in SoCal have better things to do than police tint.

Yes, oh I thought I mentioned infrared as well, blocking 50% stock vs 96% tinted, helps protect the interior, especially all the people that have the top part of their steering wheel cracking (see it in all vehicles not specifically Teslas)
