2018 M3 105k miles and still running

scriptyee | 2026-01-19 22:04 | 159 views

Battery is nowhere near the same as when we first got it obviously, can probably get 2 miles per 1% driving around the city (\~120 miles per charge). Sometimes I forget just how gorgeous the red and chrome finish looks. Had its windshield cracked, bumper and sensors broken in an accident, multiple tire replacements, and center console battery replaced, but she’s survived it all so far. This photo was taken before a car wash, definitely needs a detail soon. Tint long overdue. Feels very outdated, but cant complain when it has free lifetime supercharging!

Big w

ixidor7 2026-01-20 00:25

Dang, I should look for free supercharging on my next one

No-Kaleidoscope3609 2026-01-20 00:37

My 2018 lr awd still gets 175 freeway miles on staggered 20’s with 103k miles. I also have some halo discs I use off and on when I want to mix up the look!

DWolvin 2026-01-20 00:42

If you are still in warranty contact service. I'm 20k miles behind you in my 2018, but 83~ish percent (210 miles at 80%). The 8 years will run out this year for you, but worth checking! Wait, free supercharging!?

banditface 2026-01-20 02:00

My 2018 warranty expires this March, currently at 113K. Plan on taking it in for an inspection of some sort and try to get them to find something wrong with the battery or motor so they get swapped just before warranty runs out haha. I don't think there's anything wrong though. I have the axle click in the rear when I accelerate and sometimes when I come to a stop. I know how to fix it but don't really care enough and I'm thinking of using that as an excuse for them to look into the systems. Battery test says she's at 83% as of this last April. Hoping to drive this car for many more years! https://preview.redd.it/ttzlndqvveeg1.jpeg?width=1439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd5cbeca4c60fd5b179af106c7a15d5cb7611dbb

Imaginary-Record-112 2026-01-20 02:22

Mine is in the same condition… and I just have lost a parking sensor and a middle back seat belt notification.. mine purrsss just like it did when I first got him, even his little acceleration boost when on sport mode still brings much joy..

AdvanceWolf 2026-01-20 02:29

Looks like it’s in fantastic shape though! How do you keep it so pristine?

scriptyee 2026-01-20 02:42

Thanks! Honestly the way the sun is hitting it in these photos makes it look sleeker than it actually is lol, but a full detail every year + powerwash every few weeks. Between details, if it gets really grimy, I do a full foam wash with Meguiars Gold Class soap. Biggest regret was not getting a ceramic coating - the paint is really dried out on the hood especially.

scriptyee 2026-01-20 02:45

Actually just checked and my warranty is still good for a few more months - been neglecting running battery diagnostics but definitely gonna make the most of the warranty.  And yes - we were one of the first M3 customers when they started rolling out in 2017, free supercharging has been a life saver! Never worried about charging during peak hours. Autopilot drives like a teen with an iron foot tho lol

deeznuts69 2026-01-20 02:45

Sweet. My 2018 is in perfect condition but I only have 47,000 miles. The battery shows around 265 miles if I charge to 100%. It’s a M3P.

scriptyee 2026-01-20 02:47

Same with my parking sensor - ordered a replacement rear sensor only to find out that there are TWO types of sensors on that rear belt (rear middle and rear sides)… either that or the part I got was a dud. Autopilot works all the same, just no auto lane change / summon until I can get it fixed

scriptyee 2026-01-20 02:49

Same! Just popped the halo disks off after this photo, I miss the old hubcaps every now and then

DWolvin 2026-01-20 03:11

Nice! I'm early 2018, but didn't get the free deal. But a 14-50 outlet at home is good enough, and pretty cheap to charge (at midnight).

Stt022 2026-01-20 03:38

Just got back today from a 1700 mile trip in my 2018 LR RWD. Rolled it over to 110k miles. 256 at 100%

scriptyee 2026-01-20 04:20

That’s still eligible under warranty too! I could probably get 180-200 miles at 100% on road trip drives. Forgot to add my car is LR RWD too. I’m assuming all my extra supercharging over the years has degraded the battery faster than slow charging at home. Also, welcome back home lol

Imaginary-Record-112 2026-01-20 04:53

Same here lol the seat belt fault it’s that small wire that connects that I pulled when I laid the chair down, and the parking sensor I got the wrong one too lol but the auto pilot works and I just remembered I replaced my roof because I was behind a dumb truck and a rock shattered my roof lol don’t have the amber look no more but it’s ok I don’t miss it, well maybe I do alil but I’m ok w not having it..

Sea-Dealer1150 2026-01-20 05:03

My still have 97% battery health. Only 23k miles. Home charging 99.9% of the time. I keep my battery between 50% and 60%. Cause thats all I need for 30 ish miles a day. I even drop my amps to 18 amps. Keep it away plugged in. I just replaced my 1st set of tires

DWolvin 2026-01-20 05:06

Nice\~ and mine looks exactly like that (currently). I hate to admit it but I'll be making the vain upgrade to put the silver 19's back on when I need new tires. The 18's are faster, cheaper, practical. But I really love the wheels and trim matching (and am surprised how much).

banditface 2026-01-20 05:26

I like the silver 19s, but this color scheme with the grey wheels on blue paint tickles my brain in just the right spot. I had a 4Runner with the exact color scheme for awhile, simultaneously, like a weirdo haha. It's just my favorite. Hope you enjoy the 19s tho! https://preview.redd.it/h12f893mwfeg1.jpeg?width=1439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=baf599b8505f33298fabd2f42d5d55d906c72666

Glittering-Bite-9681 2026-01-20 05:27

106k on my 2019 m3p. Still look forward to driving it everyday as my daily!

Nostalgia88 2026-01-20 07:27

I was just wondering where the other OG Performance M3 buyers were. I was just thinking about the colossal clusterf*ck those early delivery days were. Remember that legendary spreadsheet where we were keeping track of all the deliveries to try to see when our VIN would be coming up? My 2018 M3 (VIN <80000) is at 158K. I show 215 range at 100% but it’s very likely less. I’m saving for the inevitable main battery replacement. With free Supercharging, premium connectivity for life, and FSD paid-for up front, I’m keeping this thing as long as I can. It’s a bonus that I still love driving it.

Present-Ad-9598 2026-01-20 08:47

My 2018 LR AWD gets about 200 miles of range at 80%, 122k miles

Away-Scar7754 2026-01-20 10:10

Worth considering a paint correction with next detail. That likely takes care of the hood issue you mention and would allow for ceramic coating.

inexdesain 2026-01-20 10:17

Where did you get the halo caps? I want some but dislike the ones with red writing etc on them, these look clean.

Salty_Leather42 2026-01-20 11:24

Similar here , going on year 8 and 107k miles . That free supercharging is nice - 10k kWh would add up in my neck of the woods (40-60c at most stations) .  Haven’t run the official degradation test but back of the napkin math seems to indicate a little over 20% degradation.  It’s nice to see they’re offering extended powertrain/HV warranty  Good job keeping the car looking great !

2018 M3 182k! Still going strong! ![gif](giphy|l3UcjBJUov1gCRGbS)

ilikeautosdaily 2026-01-20 13:53

There is a model s for sale in my area that has 750000km on it. They've replaced the battery a time or two but the car is still going.

SomegalInCa 2026-01-20 14:29

My vin ends in 3392 - stealth performance. Probs 280 best highway range but I don’t have proper EV tires (so not surprised sticky tires eat more power). Mine only has 63k miles but other than some chips in the windshield it’s doing just fine. And I actually prefer the old style closely phone charging area.(I added my own wireless charging way back in the day.)

scriptyee 2026-01-20 14:53

Got them from the Halodsk site, they have an all black option too!

scriptyee 2026-01-20 14:58

Ah yes my early VIN number used to really turn heads, especially with maintenance workers at the shop back then. I remember being able to differentiate early adopters with the chrome finish, feels extra special nowadays!  Edit - also, used to throw and receive peace signs at other M3s, back when there were so few on the road. Community felt more wholesome, in our area we’d even have those Tesla owner meetups, greeting new and interested Tesla owners

InvestmentMammoth311 2026-01-20 17:27

Where'd you take this picture? Looks stunning!

henh2o 2026-01-20 17:48

Let me know how that goes! Not sure how they would do inspection without fee and the battery diagnosing is just done thru checking the car? Mine expires in May.

banditface 2026-01-20 18:15

Yeah, and I don't expect them to run the actual battery test. I'm just hoping they can take off the wheels and find some random thing wrong with the motor, or look at the battery and find something. I don't know, just sort of a wish I have. But like I said, this car still feels solid as ever. I know there will be some front suspension parts that could use replacing soon, but other than that, I think she's gonna keep going for a long time.

SoggyEstablishment80 2026-01-20 20:54

2018 M3 RWD drove 55000 miles. Still looks like new and excited to drive as ever!

Correct_Ad_2109 2026-01-20 21:10

I get 260 on a full charge with 108,466 miles now

3-HUGGER 2026-01-21 00:43

Got my LR RWD in May 2018. 51,000 miles, less than 5% battery degradation, pristine condition. I had PPF and ceramic when I got it so it really extended the paint. My computer acts up now and then, but still drives like a dream and I love my full top to back rainbow glass.
