Why couldn't you wash your car in the winter?

Rinseless is the way to go. Had a carport when I first got the car so no access to a hose, but even now with a pressure washer I prefer wasting less water. All you need is a gallon sprayer, some bug/tar spray, plush microfiber towels, and some ceramic detail spray and you’re good.

You like that more than Hero?

Because in places that freeze, we turn off the faucets outside to prevent it from freezing/pipe bursting.

Does the dirt and dust scratch your paint? I mean you’re only spraying and wiping it off right?

I bought one gallon of hero in Black Friday, based on some YouTubers, hero seems to be better

No bucket. I rinse with some distilled water, hit it with the bug & tar spray/pre-wash, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, spray it down with the rinseless wash, wash the car with plush MF towel, use a mini leaf blower to get cracks/crevices for a drip-free finish, spray the ceramic detail spray, and lastly I dry with an even thicker MF towel.

Not OP but to avoid that I’ll rinse with distilled water, spray with bug & tar spray/pre-wash, and let it sit a few minutes to knock the dirt loose.

Have you tried version 5 onr?

I would very much like more details on all of this. Do I need a power washer hose thing and a foamy gun

Been using ONR since day 1 of ownership on '24 M3P still looks great. Just maintenance wash every week would take me 15> min wipe down to get rid of dust and dirt. I got version 6 so it looks like they're going back to the original and I like it better than the previous versions. For ceramic I use TEC582.

Also use the 2 bucket approach. I’ve been using ONR for black cars since 2017. I use premium microfiber clothes to wash the car. Then I use a Meguiar’s microfiber drying towel after making 4 passes. Fold the wash towel in quarters and wash a segment on each side, in a single direction. Toss the wash towel into the water bucket while you dry the recently washed panels.

I found this [ONR kit](https://a.co/d/id4qy7w) to be helpful. No power wash needed or foam gun as there’s no foam. Spray bottle or pressure spray might be helpful but not required

Is the main advantage not requiring a water hose? It doesn’t seem easier/less steps than regular wash and dry.

If you have access to a hose, waterless and rinseless wash are inferior to a pressure washer/foam cannon/pre wash foaming then a contact foam. Water = lubricant and the more of it the better. You will get more marring over time with waterless/rinseless. Disclaimer: I use ONR daily for maintenance. And car wax has been replaced by ceramic coatings/sealants for the most part.

Water in my area is *very* hard. I buy distilled specifically to wash, and previously used RO water from my kitchen. As stated above, I used to not have access to a hose and eventually realized I liked this process better than regular wash/dry even though I now have hose access.

Snow foam + ONR in a sprayer is what I use, very fast.

It's been pretty good, I've used a bunch of other brands in the past with my previous vehicles but I've come to settle down with ONR + TEC582. You can do your own mix if you want a topper or just maintenance/drying aid where as before I would use two different products. It's easy to use, doesn't streak like other products and I even use it on my windshield/windows and its been effective through rain. I ended up just buying a gallon and that should last a long time. End of the day its still a ceramic spray so its not going to last longer than a proper coating but it should last several months depending on environment and if you maintain it.

Which ceramic detail spray do you use for this process?

I use rubbit and then a ceramic / graphene spray to make it hydro phobic

I use a mixture of Americana Global ceramic and Adams Graphene

Takes 5-15 mins to remove morning dew (tropics weather) or super fresh waterspots on an outdoor black highland with a blower/ONR sprayer. If that stays on for day time sun RIP ceramic and PPF.

How do you clean your towels? I've resorted to paper towels for the runners because I can just throw them away. Every towel I've used to clean my car has been irreparably blackened and disgusting when I'm done. Sure as hell not putting that in my washing machine with my clothes... And no amount of hand washing seemed to truly get it clean.

I soak them in orange degreaser for a few hours and then wash with Castile soap with cold water and vinegar with two rinse cycles. Air dry only too. Keeps them nice and fluffy. Heavy duty wash.

I just bought some ONR number 5 and have never used a rinse less wash before. Is it pretty simple? Mix the solution and sponge it on/dry it with microfiber?

That's basically what I did, but I also used a spray bottle to spray on first to presoak. It sounds like from this thread that there's a lot of different ways to use this kind of stuff. Just don't use a lot of pressure. I'm not doing any scrubbing at all when washing or drying - just letting gravity pull.

That's not really washing your car... That's like a quick rinse and dry. I'm from the Midwest and we have to really *wash* a lot of crap off our cars.

Rinseless is meh. I bought all the stuff and wish I wouldn’t have wasted the money.

I still do weekly maintenance lol with acidic foam prewash and neutral foam contact, then a ceramic sealant.

A waterless wash is not that great for regular maintenance, you are going to damage the paint much faster. Waterless wash is more for spot touch up of bird droppings and very basic wash for a clean car, not any kind of daily or just dirty car. You need water to remove contaminants, a waterless wash is not going to provide enough surfactant to lift all soil. Additionally if you are not using a new spot on a clean towel for each wipe you can easily add scratching to your “wash” defeating the purpose of cleaning the car. I suggest you stop and just leave the car until you can do a proper wash with water. I use a waterless wash in between full washes when the car has had a drive or three. Never after any rain or post rain clean up as the car is too dirty. I spray the section to clean and wipe in one direction, flip towel and wipe a new section. You get 4-8ish wipes per towel depending on size and a new one is needed. Anything else is likely just scratching the paint and not worth it, water is the fastest solvent to remove contaminants, not a waterless wash.

But if he only has to remove a day’s worth of filth from his car, maybe a quick rinse is enough.

If you want to get off as much dirt as possible, use an alkaline pre treat and then spray like a waterspot remover over the top. Causes a reaction the pretty much removes everything. Acid and alkaline melts pretty much everything

I noticed that you specifically said that waterless is not great, but how's that compared to rinseless?

I have partial PPF, the car is ceramic coated, and had two step paint correction; using my method, the water beads up and pulls the dirt down. Trust me brother, I know how to maintain my ride. Going on four years and she still shines with no cobwebs/micro-scratches. Appreciate the concern though. I do the same, if you use a good sealant and top it with wax nothing sticks to the paint. Literally when it rains it's like a free car wash. And having a small pressure washer (1000psi) cleans everything. You just need to maintain the sealant and wax and it takes like 10 mins to wash and dry the car.

The main purpose of things like ONR is to add a lubricant to the water to fix this problem

Not meant to be equivalent to a shampoo/ foam wash. It is a quick clean in-between as you say “maintenance” and one other arrow in the quiver

im going to try rinseless first time, any suggestions? the car is dirty and pretty much alll the dirts are dry. should I ONR the car and let it foam up then hose it down, then onr again -> contact wash?

What kind of dirty are we talking? I hand washed mine in my heated garage here in PA today and enough stones and grime fell off to need swept up or hosed into my trench drain. I even found a 1/4” stone wedged between my rear door and door jamb 😳
