How do you guys react to hate on owning a Tesla

HapiHapii | 2026-01-13 22:30 | 163 views

I've have a 2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance and I love it. It's a great daily, I drive it a lot and it's cheap to drive and maintain. The tech is fun, my kids love it, and me too. Despite all that, I'm not a simple person looking for a simple car; I'm a mechanic and car enthousiast and chose for a Tesla because I was tired of how unreliable an ICE car is and how much I had to work on it or spend on it. While I miss a good combustion engine that makes cool noises, I truly miss having my car appraised, which is definitely not what I get from Tesla. People either think I'm a rich asshole or just another EV owner and instantly dislike me or start telling me how they don't like EVs and how their car is better. However, when I take someone to drive with me, their minds change. They suddenly like the car and start telling me how smooth they drive, how fast and sporty they are and how cheap it is to drive them. So I'm always lost at this. So I really wanted to know what you guys have gone through with your Teslas and what other people tell you.

I react by not caring and allowing them to have whatever opinion they do have.

Conscious_Zebra_1808 2026-01-13 22:35

I just enjoy my car and could care less

gentlehurricane 2026-01-13 22:35

I just don't care. I didn't buy my car for external validation, I don't work for Tesla or have a vested interest in EVs. When people start yapping about their opinions on my car I just shrug and say "yeah you're probably right, idk man I just drive it I don't care either way".

I’ve gotten many compliments and questions but zero negativity or hate. Anyone that's been in it is blown away when I take off in insane mode. 😎

VicAltman 2026-01-13 22:35

same

Fun-Palpitation3968 2026-01-13 22:40

Yeah I don’t talking to people about my Tesla around where I live (DC area). I also just retired from the federal government so I don’t talk about it there at all. Separately, my Model Y is a great car. I got it before Trump’s second term. I won’t be getting another one. I heavily thought about it at the end of last year due to the lease deal in the new one but I just couldn’t do it. And, I won’t.

TonyH22_ATX 2026-01-13 22:41

The only people that showed hate/dislike was when I first got it. Once they got in the car they loved it. The acceleration, the tech, the only driving if I really feel like it (fsd), the no worrying about tank being low. I have no regrets and have no issues. People just hate Tesla because of Elon. If they’ve ever been in one they realize how great of a car it is. Then realize how seriously far behind their car is. As far as caring what strangers think, zero fucks.

OneEstablishment5144 2026-01-13 22:42

I, too, bought it so I don't have to do ice maintenance. I don't care what others think of me. If they hate it, so be it. If someone says their car is better, I would say let me know when you do your next oil change and I will take you for a drive in mine to show you why I have more time and don't worry about the ice oil sludge build up or the p0146 code or the other 100s of engine or emmisions codes. Fine, they like old tech. I like newer. You like rotary phones, I like my smartphone. They also like using oil that led us to war in the Middle East and now Maduro country. I don't, I want our soldiers to live safely away from needless war while defending our nation.

westwoodwastelander 2026-01-13 22:42

I’ve never had any hate. A few misconceptions and questions but never any hate

ozzyngcsu 2026-01-13 22:43

No one thinks someone with a Model 3 is rich.

moomoopoopoo 2026-01-13 22:45

I go fas

HighHokie 2026-01-13 22:46

I’m sure there are examples of it occurring, but offline, 99% of the people you’ll interact with don’t give a shit what car you drive.

Gigtooo 2026-01-13 22:47

I don’t care. And if they stand next to me at the light I just leave them blank once it’s green.

camasonian 2026-01-13 22:48

I've never experienced any. I live in a Portland suburb and Teslas are everywhere. There are probably 5 on my block alone. Along with some more expensive stuff like Rivians. If I go to Costco I'll probably see at least 20 in the parking lot. Honestly, no one cares. Now Cybertrucks are a different thing. I expect the folks I see driving those beasts around get some ugly stares. But it is probably mostly mockery, not hostility. I mean, I'd be embarrassed to be seen in one and I own a Model 3.

hoffmanimal 2026-01-13 22:49

“Ew, why would you get an ev, you are a car guy” “Alot of people buy cars to do the bare minimum, if you are looking for the bare minimum, neither of mine is the car for you (model3performance and modelsplaid are my babies) but if you are looking for raw power and speed you cant beat these two for the price (31k for my P; 51k for the plaid) These two smoke everything up to a hyper car. The control to put yourself wherever you need to be in the stream of traffic is unmatched. The model 3 performance ruined my srt, civic hatchback, nissan fairlady z, and the plaid showed me what the pinnacle of driving fast/quick really was. Im not a combustion car guy anymore, im a speed and quickness guy now and like always winning”

teckel 2026-01-13 22:49

I get absolutely no hate for owning a Tesla. If I did, I'd just ignore it.

nomnamnom 2026-01-13 22:50

Maybe you shouldn’t care so much about what others think.

LogicalRepeat3622 2026-01-13 22:53

I’ve never had anyone hate to my face. Lucky me.

LogicalRepeat3622 2026-01-13 22:53

Couldn’t care less*

Mexay 2026-01-13 22:53

"Okay, anyway..."

Complex_Arrival7968 2026-01-13 22:54

I’m in SoCal. We went for a 3-hour bike ride, about 35 miles, and played a game where we counted the total number of white Teslas. Not all Teslas, just the white ones. We counted 108. So no, I never encounter Tesla hate. They’re just too common.

Training-Pineapple-7 2026-01-13 22:54

I collect coins, and my favorite one that I have is the fugio coin, designed by Benjamin Franklin. It’s in-scripted with the phrase “mind your business”. It’s very fitting.

saml23 2026-01-13 22:55

My M3 has saved me a ton of money but I don't think I would buy another Tesla. It would depend on what I need. There are a lot of things about these cars I get sick of. I get sick of the alerts going off for silly reasons; not braking far enough from the car ahead or looking sideways for a few seconds with AP enabled. I'm tired of the poor Autopilot implementation; I constantly get "Curvature Assist" warnings on straight roads that slow the car down. While the Tesla (2022) is comfortable to drive long distances, the interior quality is garbage compared to any other car I have owned. I have multiple plastic parts delaminating and a hole in the steering wheel cover. I also have a 2020 4Runner that gets abused far more than my Tesla and the interior in the 4Runner has held up far better. App implementation is also garbage. Spotify on Tesla is terrible and trying to watch anything is borderline pointless with how poorly the processing power (or lack of) handles the apps. I view this as indicative of the tech industry in general these days. Say that you offer some cool feature(s) but most of them hardly work. This is not unique to Tesla. That being said, no car is perfect and the M3 is fun, and cheap, to drive so who knows what I will do in the future.

docjonel 2026-01-13 22:55

Same. Don't care what other people think and didn't buy my Model Y to get their approval.

CMDR_Satsuma 2026-01-13 22:56

It's a car. I get that people have weird opinions about EVs, but it's just a car. I mean, I bought my SR+ in 2019. At the time, after tax breaks, I paid something like $37k for it. That's basically the same territory as a Toyota Camry with options. It's not a particularly expensive car, and it's cheap to run and maintain. By the way, OP, have you seen [Mountain Pass Performance](https://www.mountainpassperformance.com/)? They're a performance shop that's really into Teslas. As a car enthusiast, I think you'd like them.

Different-World-5293 2026-01-13 22:58

When I hear I don’t like EV’s / Tesla, I tell them don’t buy one then. 90% of the hate in my experience is flat out ignorance. I also deep down don’t care an ounce what anyone else thinks of my car.

void1101 2026-01-13 22:58

I’ve had my Teslas for about 4 years now, and never experienced anything like that yet. But if I did I would not care, there are plenty of idiots about.

soupdawg 2026-01-13 23:00

I only notice hate here on Reddit.

Rifter0876 2026-01-13 23:03

This is the way

HFSGV 2026-01-13 23:03

Other than the Model X and S, Tesla's are priced in the same range as other cars. including Toyota, Kia and Ford. I don't get the rich label being attached to Tesla's. The Models 3 and Y are the new Camry of the 2020 era. Most people are just plain ignorant. Why do you even give a F about what they think.

Gjixy 2026-01-13 23:03

It’s funny how it flipped though. I’ve had a Tesla for 5 years, originally Conservatives hated on me and the car and said shit like it’s not actually good for the environment, how our infrastructure isn’t built for this yet, blah blah blah. Now Liberals hate on me because Elon’s a jackass, and I’m supporting facism, etc. My response to both has been the same. I don’t care, I just love the car. It’s fun to drive, it’s great not having to stop at gas stations, and autopilot for roadtrips is amazing.

HistoricalHurry8361 2026-01-13 23:07

It’s whatever! I feel like a lot of people I come across haven’t driven one or even ridden in one, no hate at all. Most of the hate is online or passing in traffic. Never had anything happen in person. I always thought I was a car guy, then I got into motorcycles, slowly lost my taste for ice cars but still enjoy working on and riding my motorcycles. Having a Tesla and motorcycles is the best of both worlds.

RevolutionaryLab654 2026-01-13 23:07

I usually tell anyone who asks that it’s the best car I’ve ever owned, and I wouldn’t go back to ICE for daily driving. They usually don’t say anything after that, and if they did, I wouldn’t really care.

ughsomch 2026-01-13 23:07

Sounds like you’re dealing with dumb people. In which case what they think shouldn’t matter. They will change their minds when their pundit of choice changes their mind.

Ok-Perspective4326 2026-01-13 23:09

If people hate Teslas or people because they drive Teslas, it’s their problem, not yours

GIJOW 2026-01-13 23:10

I answer that Darwin never fails

stuffedbipolarbear 2026-01-13 23:11

When they took away the turn signal stalk I swore I’d never get a Tesla. Surprise, I got one without it and I adapted. My complaint with ICE was it was so unresponsive. It took one demo drive to convince me it fit my driving style. People don’t understand what they’re missing out on and you can’t convince them until they are ready to change themselves. I generally will ask more questions to push people to consider at least sit on the fence.

CoolPrius-Nobody 2026-01-13 23:12

Where are you OP? I'm in San Diego and no one cares about Tesla's here because they're everywhere. I'm not sure many people associate this car, especially not the M3 as a rich person's car.

SultanOfSwave 2026-01-13 23:13

I torture them by letting them drive the car. They then either buy one or it haunts their dreams. Either way, they shut up.

ThottyThanos 2026-01-13 23:13

Where yall even meet these people 😂 ive never had someone in person hate on the car

Mission_Wall6014 2026-01-13 23:14

Okay, here's the thing. People hate what they don't understand. Thats it. This applies to almost everything in life.

Imaginary-Record-112 2026-01-13 23:14

I kinda act like I have those things they put on horses eyes when they don’t want them to look away lol because if I make a slight eye contact with anyone it’s like I just accepted there challenge to race, and it’s everyone and there mom out here old young new cars old cars so now I just get on enjoy driving and ignore everyone else, oh and omg even other teslas especially the Y or X cause I have the model 3 and I’m like NOOOOO we have to be united even if we’re not. I usually let other teslas cut if they need it or if I see another car try to pick on them I try and save em because someone in a car that looked like mine had my back once but I don’t even get the thanks by atleast flashing there blinkers once at me lol I usually do it when a Tesla lets me cut them.. maybe we should start a light code w each other then they’ll really despise us.. but u know what ignoring them is the best thing u can do, I don’t engage in races because we have to many pot holes and tires are expensive lol

samzplourde 2026-01-13 23:18

I generally offer to let them drive the car around the block. Most people have never driven one and they just don't understand.

rdomain 2026-01-13 23:18

I don’t think I get any hate but I do get shit from some of my friends. I’m Aussie so giving your friends shit is a very Aussie thing to do so it’s more funny than anything. Especially because I know how amazing it is to own one of these cars. Don’t let it bother you. It does tend to highlight the ignorance of some people though, to an outstanding degree in many cases!

Hopeful-Lab-238 2026-01-13 23:19

Couldn’t care less. I don’t have to like the ceo to like the car, don’t even have to like the company but it was a proven EV and that was my requirement

TheGreatDanton 2026-01-13 23:19

I don’t think the average person can differentiate what model a Tesla is. They just see a Tesla. I could see people assuming any Tesla is expensive and therefore the owner has the means to own one.

Ion94x 2026-01-13 23:20

Likewise

RogerRabbit1234 2026-01-13 23:22

Anyone who think Teslas (especially model 3s) are still just for rich assholes isn’t paying attention. They are basically the Honda accord of 2025.

0r1as 2026-01-13 23:26

I let my Tesla/EV hating coworker drive mine. He told me I ruined him afterwards

Tin_Can_739 2026-01-13 23:26

FUD…. One of my cousin’s husbands is always says how cheap they are because he rode in an early ‘18 base model 3. Idc, my ‘23 base m3 is the cheapest cost per mile car I have ever owned and the most instant responding.

hdizzle7 2026-01-13 23:28

In the rural southeast they do. I've had to explain to many many people that the car is much much cheaper than they assume because I was getting all kinds of judgement. Never mind their enormous Tahoe that cost an arm and a leg

sonofabraham1 2026-01-13 23:30

The secret is to not care. Youre supposed to buy things for yourself first and foremost. As long as you’re happy with the car you spent your hard earned money on, then to hell with what anyone else thinks. Think about it like this. There are people out there who are happy with driving a PT Cruiser. I will never understand why anyone would purchase that horrendous car but if they’re happy then I guess that’s all that counts

ozzyngcsu 2026-01-13 23:31

The most popular/common Tesla costs less than the average new car in America, so even then it's a stretch to assume someone thinks you are rich.

RestrictedX93 2026-01-13 23:32

If anyone thinks you are a rich asshole because you drive a 2020 M3 they have no idea how little that year actually costs in 2026. Seems like you care too much about what people think; whether they know what they are talking about or not.

CousinEddysMotorHome 2026-01-13 23:33

Idgaf. I love my tesla. Tesla is a good company. Elon Musk is not your enemy.

[deleted] 2026-01-13 23:34

Most often the hate is coming from me owning one for almost two years. Can't wait to get rid of it. And it isn't EV hate - it is just that specifically the Model 3 is such a bad car. I wonder what people that own Teslas and like them used to drive before.

RestrictedX93 2026-01-13 23:35

Agreed, 2020 Model 3 even with low miles appears to be $18-22k for standard range. Definitely not a high cost vehicle. When looking at 2020 Honda Accord with more miles than the M3 they cost within the same range.

DWolvin 2026-01-13 23:36

I've had a few (SD/SoCal) inevitably they are driving $75.000+ trucks.

slasher016 2026-01-13 23:37

My very rich aunt got into my Model 3 performance and said I could never afford one. I'm like this was $50k and she was like what really that's it?

Peshmerga_Sistani 2026-01-13 23:37

2019 Model 3 SR+. A semi-truck driver spat onto the hood on my Tesla while we were in stop and go traffic back in the early years of the EV adoption era. Guess that was his general opinion of EVs. Nowadays can't drive more than one block without seeing another Tesla, either on the road or parked.

Mysterious-Maize307 2026-01-13 23:38

What does having a type of car, any car have to do with how you’re perceived? A car is a tool, a utilitarian necessity in most cases. People go through their daily lives without caring about others. Sure you can notice a car and like the way it looks or appreciate someone’s exotic ride. But assumptions about the owner/driver? How is that even relevant?

ApoptosisMD 2026-01-13 23:42

I get the most amount of hate from Gen z - like jeers, eye rolls, affect changes 180 degree change in attitude despite friendly past once they see a red Tesla lol - - politics are divisive but Gen Z I think cant think for themselves, at all.

Subconciously 2026-01-13 23:44

I’ve never gotten hate, just pure envy from those poor ICE car owners.

Morningstardark 2026-01-13 23:47

Have 170k miles on one of mine my cousin owns a scat pack always hating no matter how much I explain to him that the car has paid itself off he still hates. People that hat on teslas or ev cars don’t understand it’s just a reliable car with little to no repairs.

Traditional_Youth648 2026-01-13 23:49

I sucked it up and paid 7 dollars on Amazon for the bumper sticker You know the sticker

TONNAGE1975 2026-01-13 23:52

I started hating myself, so I got rid of it.

Cimexus 2026-01-13 23:58

There’s so many Teslas around here that I doubt there’s much hate for them. They are like seeing a Camry. In fact I think I probably see more Model 3/Y than Camry these days…

Terrorphin 2026-01-13 23:59

I don't think it's because they don't like EVs - it's because they don't like fascists.

Terrorphin 2026-01-13 23:59

You don't care that you're supporting fascism? Interesting take.

fanstoyou 2026-01-14 00:00

At the beginning 2022, I tried, but not too long, I stopped, because they’ve made up their minds. I never try anymore and don’t give a f***, what their opinion is. I am confident that I didn’t make the wrong choice

blonktime 2026-01-14 00:00

My fiancee is from rural farmland, I am from Southern California. When I love my car, I think my fiancee may have mentioned that to some of them, because when I was first meeting a lot of them they had some questions. What if you run out of electricty? Isn't it annoying to have to wait to charge it for so long? What if the grid goes down? But you can't work on it yourself. What if you can't plug it in for a few days? I would simply just explain "I don't think EVs are for everyone right now. Especially for people who are farming, towing, or going off grid for an extended period of time. With current battery technology, I don't think they're the right answer. But for me, and what I do, it's perfect. I just plug it in at night, and I always have a full battery in the morning, which is plenty for my daily driving. If my power goes out, there are TONS of public chargers near me. I can go probably 3 or 4 days of my normal commute without plugging in. Also, it's REALLY fast and fun. And I don't have any maintenance other than tires, windshield wipers and fluid, which is really convenient." I think a lot of people are "brainwashed" about EVs and they go around touting that EVERYONE needs an EV. I don't believe that. I think both EVs and ICEs have their pros and cons, and you should choose what car works best for your particular circumstance. That being said, I think for MOST people, EVs are a better alternative.

Material-Tax944 2026-01-14 00:03

Wow, be yourself and simply ignore. I have owned a Tesla since the last 4 years: so much power as it is easy to move away from them.

BuddyTheShihTzu 2026-01-14 00:09

The most hate I have seen is by this subreddit for my mods

JaniceRossi_in_2R 2026-01-14 00:13

I’m having such an amazing time experience owning and driving (or not driving) my Tesla that I dgaf what anyone says. Can’t burst my bubble.

JaniceRossi_in_2R 2026-01-14 00:16

And the only hate I get is an occasional coal roll or morons on Reddit

Bennydmt313 2026-01-14 00:17

It’s brutal being a laborer with a Tesla some one who drives a 80 thousand dollar truck has a smart remark or some one that drives a beater car got something to say, like no I’m not getting two cars I’m driving this car as a car not for you to think I have money or I’m showing off i am driving it to get me from point a to point b

RojerLockless 2026-01-14 00:19

I shrug. I dont get it enough to even post on reddit about it

Tra747 2026-01-14 00:21

You need to hang out with different people!

Underwater_Karma 2026-01-14 00:24

I've never asked anyone what they think about any of my cars. If someone offered unsolicited criticism, I'd probably laugh in their face and suggest they should grow up

TopEnd1907 2026-01-14 00:26

Adore my 3 and had a Y before it. My boss hated them and then drove mine and got his partner one and says he wants a truck. I get hate on the road in LA but push through. Enjoy yours -:)

HeyBeers 2026-01-14 00:26

It is just a car. Other people's opinions of it literally don't matter.

TheAmazingScamArtist 2026-01-14 00:27

Dawg when I got my base model 3 I had several people close to me asking how I can afford 70k dollar car lol, people are so uninformed.

Bandall_buster 2026-01-14 00:29

This is why I always carry my blue plastic extending lightsaber with me. As soon someone starts hating I thrust my hand down to fully extend my blue saber, get in my Jedi stance, and then challenge them to a duel. They tend to shut up after that.

Tradition-Proud 2026-01-14 00:30

I too was bothered by this in the beginning, but now IDGAD! My car is better than there's!

Hushed_Rl 2026-01-14 00:31

Pretty obvious he meant he doesn’t care if someone thinks he’s supporting fascism.

Hushed_Rl 2026-01-14 00:31

And there’s no evidence to support that owning a Tesla supports fascism

Feisty_Crab7052 2026-01-14 00:33

I don’t.

ItsGerbil 2026-01-14 00:34

I just laugh at them…tell them to go test drive one, you may change your tone. I love mine. I call it my Honda Civic. I can appreciate ICE cars still. I love muscle cars. Eff em. Do you.

cavey00 2026-01-14 00:35

Don’t care. Rolled into work today and knew it cost me 8 cents in electricity to do so. Everyone is so happy around there that gas is like under $3 a gallon right now. Good for them. Still costs way more than me to drive, and might I mention that my car was warm when I got into it while parked inside my garage without being all gassed out? It’s so dumb to hate on that car. Yeah the few times I go out of town it takes me longer. Want to know what? I don’t care. It’s driving itself. I’m relaxed the whole ride. Couldn’t care less how long it takes me.

Electrical_Ingenuity 2026-01-14 00:38

No one in the Motor City gives a shit about what you drive, so it’s a non issue for me.

MrGoogle87 2026-01-14 00:40

Oh boy… You are so wrong.. Most people are stupid and uninformed, musk is rich and evil and ofcourse they cost 100k + (old model S prices)

ionchannels 2026-01-14 00:41

I don’t care until they key my car. Happened in Seattle during the stupid Elon Musk uproar after the election.

Pr4der 2026-01-14 00:46

I've never cared what people think of me. So if someone hates my Tesla, I'd be the last to know and certainly the last to care.

Sublime-Chaos 2026-01-14 00:48

“Line it up then pussy” then smoke em.

MiteeThoR 2026-01-14 00:50

It’s like they can’t fathom you would buy an electric car because you like it and want to drive it without virtue-signaling about some environmental nonsense. I have a Tesla because it’s the fastest car you can buy. Having it fully charged every morning without going to a gas station is just a bonus. Also you can make it fart from any speaker.

poopshoot_dot_com 2026-01-14 00:50

Stop telling them how cool it is and never mention cars with them again. So I guess I treat it like politics. If its a rando on the street I ignore comments

Small-Acanthaceae-19 2026-01-14 00:51

I personally don’t care or react I enjoy my car because someone’s always hated on something I’ve owned, my fords got flak as well as my Chevy, dodge, Honda, Toyota, Audi, Cadillac. . . I just look in my rear view mirrors and smile cause they’ll always be back there now. 😂🤣😂

wooder321 2026-01-14 00:53

Ego protection mode is a plague on humanity, and it activates in all sorts of contexts not just cars. It’s why pride is one of the seven deadly sins.

Threeofnine000 2026-01-14 00:54

The only place I’ve ever experienced hate is online. Ive been an owner 2018z I’ve never experienced any negativity in real life and I live in the Deep South.

chfp 2026-01-14 00:56

Enlighten gassers that they support oppressive regimes including Saudi Arabia and Russia every time they fill up. There's no way for them to avoid the global oil market as consumers. OTOH, EVs can be powered in many ways, almost always domestic.

spellegrano 2026-01-14 00:59

Move to Southern California.

mutantninja001 2026-01-14 01:03

The only subtlety hate I notice is other drivers behind me tailgating or others not letting me in. I think they believe I'm rich or have a car made by someone who fired the Federal workers. What do I do about it? Nothing. What can I do? Who cares? In your case I do think it's important to tell people how low maintenance Teslas are. People don't realize that. A friend riding in it actually asked me if it's good car to drive and runs well. People are clueless so as a non-mechanic, I tried to educate her. A couple of friends who are into cars respect the fact that I have a Tesla because they understand that it's an awesome car, or maybe they just appreciate a woman who is into her car.

CharacterMall2112 2026-01-14 01:06

Most people are too lazy to actually research things for themselves these days. They take whatever headlines they are fed and treat them as the only possible truth. And since Musk worked with republicans recently and the media is overly left leaning, every Tesla headline is a negative spin on Tesla news. “Tesla recalls millions of cars”…what they don’t mention is that the issue was icon size, and they fixed it with an OTA update without any intervention from the owner. Im on year 5 of my Model 3, and hitting the accelerator still gives me a smile every time!

mutantninja001 2026-01-14 01:09

I love all these reasons. The "I don't want to add to the war on oil" had a lot to do with why I bought a Tesla and that reason is underrated by many. And I got so tired of watching the price of gas.

regalbeagles1 2026-01-14 01:10

lol same EXACT experience over the past 5 years. People are miserable brainwashed fucks sometimes (most of the time).

CG_throwback 2026-01-14 01:12

+1. Same. This is the way.

SilentKing7505 2026-01-14 01:14

Love my m3p. This is car love 😘

rjcarr 2026-01-14 01:17

This, while knowing that if their opinion is negative (on EV in general, not necessarily Tesla, which is another can of worms) it's almost certainly because they've never driven in an EV, and/or have been fed horseshit.

choicemeats 2026-01-14 01:19

When I was floating the idea to see reactions I got a lot of “oh Elon don’t do that”. ATP I feel like there’s maybe a dozen more billionaires they can be mad at with their daily purchases. Not that I was one of these people before but watching The Good Place and how that ended up really reshaped how I saw how other people were looking at stuff. Dig deep enough and you’ll find something to disagree with.

Only_Indication8410 2026-01-14 01:20

Blow’em a kiss

hotsauce126 2026-01-14 01:21

Exactly I’ve never gotten so much as a second look in real life

No-Hope-1549 2026-01-14 01:22

Anyone wanna get rid of their Tesla, i will buy it.

cantgettherefromhere 2026-01-14 01:23

Took my car 10k miles from coast to coast across the US this year on two separate trips, almost exclusively on FSD. I love having FSD around town for day to day use, but it is absolutely amazing on roadtrips. LA, Vegas, Denver, Kansas City, St Louis, Nashville, Charlotte, DC, Philly, NYC, Boston, Chicago... no worries at all.

--Racer-X-- 2026-01-14 01:23

I laugh and tell them id be mad too if my car was as slow as theirs.

choicemeats 2026-01-14 01:23

Usually it’s bc there’s others options. But why would I pick one I didn’t like or take a bad deal just to stick it to musk? The EV lease deals last quarter in SoCal were not the greatest.

Vegetable-Shelter974 2026-01-14 01:25

How the ev ever became politicized is beyond human comprehension. It’s a car christ all might save us alll. Kidding not religious

millenialliberal 2026-01-14 01:32

I tell them I’m also a vegan (I’m not)

Tonka_GD 2026-01-14 01:35

“So your $65k ___________ drives itself? “

digitaldisorder_ 2026-01-14 01:40

Just slap a Harris/Bidden, Palestine, Ukraine, Iran, No ICE/Kings, BLM, Anti-Elon Social Club, ACAB, Baby on Board, Please Be Parient/Student Driver bumper sticker on your car and call it a day. And maybe a Free Maduro for good measure.

Ok-Analyst-5489 2026-01-14 01:45

I was never a fan. My fiancé got a model 3 performance. After riding around in that for a few months I ended up getting a Mach-E. Now I’m sold on electric

holtyrd 2026-01-14 01:46

It’s the new Prius. All the douchy owners give the non-douchy owners a bad wrap. Plus the CEO is a bit of a megalomaniac, which doesn’t help the cause. I just ignore them and enjoy my car.

schnauzerdad 2026-01-14 01:48

“I've have a 2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance and I love it. It's a great daily, I drive it a lot and it's cheap to drive and maintain. The tech is fun, my kids love it, and me too.” You and your family enjoy it then that is all that matters everything else is just external noise.

BobDoleStillKickin 2026-01-14 01:53

Ive drove my 2018 M3P since 2020 and I haven't had a single occurrence of hate at it/me. Id say its affected by location, but my south east state is would imagine is one of the most hostile areas lol

RScottyL 2026-01-14 01:55

It is okay to "hate" on things, as long as you don't damage anything or act against it!

_Child_0f_Prophecy 2026-01-14 01:57

Make them hate even more

ApprehensiveBat21 2026-01-14 02:01

Yeah, I literally only have it because it's was the cheapest option. I had to swallow my hate for Elon and cave. I get absolutely no hate because it was so cheap and there were simply no other options in the same price range at the time.

ApprehensiveBat21 2026-01-14 02:02

I've never encountered any hate. If anything I'm the one who's embarrassed and don't want to talk about it and others think it's neat car.

Gunzbngbng 2026-01-14 02:04

When I get called out on it, I just say "I love that car." If they push harder, I recommend they go to a tesla service center and test drive one for free.

LakeSun 2026-01-14 02:04

There's not a lot of hate now. Who is Musk? Liberal, Conservative or Nut. No one knows.

Tree_Puff 2026-01-14 02:11

“Yeah, I think Elon is a jackass too. Have a good one”

Tree_Puff 2026-01-14 02:11

I think we are pretty safely in the conservative nut category

NotAnAIOrAmI 2026-01-14 02:13

So you're saying you're better than us because you're a mechanic, and so you're not "just another EV owner"? Here's a piece of news, my guy - you're just another EV owner, like the rest of us. Sounds like you think poorly of EV owners in general, and I wonder why. And "rich"? Model 3? lol.

Stampy_bird 2026-01-14 02:15

I didn’t read past the title but I react by having a wrapped 2022 M3LR and running a light show if parked and laughing when they flip me off while driving. I’ve also done a light show at a red light because it’s notorious for taking its time

itsm3starlord 2026-01-14 02:18

I had a big truck before my Tesla and I do miss it but at the same time love the simplicity and affordability of my Tesla. I live in Texas and work somewhat in the construction industry so I always feel judged when pulling up to a site to meet a client or contractor. I’ve also had coffee thrown on my car while standing at a red light. I’ve gotten over it now and don’t care anymore. I’m even thinking of upgrading to a model S.

aerismio 2026-01-14 02:20

I don't. There are SOOO MANY Tesla's here. It's like a VW Golf / VW Polo now. And i paid it cash, and save money on it per km by charging it from solar so its free electricity. (Yes in the summer i use home battery to store excess sun, i sell it in evening -> Financial battery -> Pay for electricity in the winter. So yes 100% FREE) I love it when they hate, because i can identify DUMB people who get nowhere in life. And are just naive and stupid.

Graphic_Attack 2026-01-14 02:23

I hate it myself. Can’t wait to switch to something else, when my finances allow.

Freewheeler631 2026-01-14 02:24

Same. I have no hate stories, just a couple of ignorant statements like how they effectively charge with gasoline or whatever. I don’t feed the trolls.

mcbergstedt 2026-01-14 02:44

The only vehicles that deserve hate are any squatted truck (which are objectively dangerous) and the Pontiac Aztec. Otherwise if you like your car, who gives a shit.

RoseVideo99 2026-01-14 02:45

I got rid of my 2021 M3 Performance and got a Hummer 2x truck. I get all the attention you’re looking for in my truck. I get stopped in parking lots at least twice a week by people who want to ask me about it. No one did that with the M3 unless I was at a supercharger and people liked some of the mods done to it.

HiroyukiC1296 2026-01-14 02:49

I am not easily triggered by politically driven purity politics. If someone wants to judge me over a piece of technology I own, they can take it up the rear end if you know what I mean.

Present-Ad-9598 2026-01-14 02:50

If it’s online people hating, I’ll ask what they hate, and then give them reasons I think they’re wrong. If it’s face to face people hating, I’ll ask what they hate, and then give them reasons I think they’re wrong.

socrpro192 2026-01-14 02:50

If you care about others opinions of your car you probably have low T. Men statistically are less caring of fitting in, others opinions with high testosterone.

Retire2the_Mountains 2026-01-14 02:56

Haha yeah, mostly this. I test drove a "cyber beast" while at the dealership for service. It was acceptable at best. Price tag... $110k. GTFO.... Meanwhile I spent $21k for 2022 dual motor m3. Better in almost every way.

lakeoceanpond 2026-01-14 02:57

I don’t even think about this tbh. Maybe a tad when teslas where getting firebombed but that’s old news now

bryyantt 2026-01-14 02:58

same

mx5plus2cones 2026-01-14 02:58

First of all, nobody thinks if you drive a Model3, you are rich. Most people know that with the way depreciation has hit, an old Tesla is comparely priced to a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry, maybe less. Second, at least where I live they are a dime a dozen, i see more Model3 than Honda Accord or Toyota Camry's. Even high school students have hand-me- down Model 3's. At one point in time, people hated Elon.. But since every other corporate CEO and company has sold out abd bowed down to this adminstration, include the facebook CEO and toyota CEO, nobody really cares anymore. You are fine.

hcl8811 2026-01-14 02:59

Same.

halford2069 2026-01-14 03:00

i ask them what POS theyre driving and go from there 😆

Mundane_Engineer_550 2026-01-14 03:10

I don't miss a combustion engine that makes a lot of noise 🤣, coming from someone who straight piped all of his previous cars I actually enjoy the silent whine now

msb06c 2026-01-14 03:13

To be fair, giant gas guzzling trucks got politicized as well.

AR-180 2026-01-14 03:18

Who cares?

ugoglencoco 2026-01-14 03:23

My mom completely stopped talking to me once I told her I was getting a Tesla. On Christmas Eve. So that was unexpected. No other hate from anyone else though!

Most-Inevitable-69 2026-01-14 03:24

Laugh at em.

Mental_Pineapple_865 2026-01-14 03:27

We have 4 Teslas in the family, me, fiancé, mom & pop who bought an S in 2015. Never heard of any negativity around the cars we choose to drive.

Litig8or53 2026-01-14 03:29

LOL. You mean supporting the United States GDP and the thousands of American workers who design, program, sell and service THE most American carmaker? THOSE fascists?

Litig8or53 2026-01-14 03:30

Despite the Mach-E.

No-Leopard-1415 2026-01-14 03:33

When someone brings up musk, I ask them whether they've determined the politics or the moral integrity of the corporate owners of things that they buy. VW used to use slave labor.

idkausernamerntbh 2026-01-14 03:38

I say “it’s fast, it drives itself, and I charge it for free” literally can’t beat that imo

Litig8or53 2026-01-14 03:39

Says an asshole expert.

Ok-Analyst-5489 2026-01-14 03:42

Sorta like what this thread's all about. I like Teslas, but I prefer the Mach-E for me. I could care less if others snub their nose at it.

Status_Bluebird_2308 2026-01-14 03:45

The good ol iron worker GFY usually.

-Cyber-Roadster 2026-01-14 03:50

I drive a Tesla, haters cry louder

BoatsnHoes87 2026-01-14 03:50

I bought mine specifically to piss off all those that hate Elon

Sierraskid 2026-01-14 04:10

I hate myself for owning one. I know how to drive. I’m a car guy. I can change my own oil and I enjoy everything about gasoline. I’m above average intelligence in broad topics. Women find me attractive. I can hold normal conversations with people. I don’t work in tech. I have hobbies that don’t involve screens or eating. I understand physics. I can parallel park without crying. I live far from major cities. Why do I own a Tesla? 🤦‍♂️

Schroederhc 2026-01-14 04:13

No disrespect. Who cares

StarWarder 2026-01-14 04:26

This is the way

rabbitwonker 2026-01-14 04:37

Sadly, it’s all *about* the limits of some humans’ comprehension.

Speedyboi186 2026-01-14 04:37

Is it their car? no. Do they drive it daily? no. do you like it? yes. What's the issue then? I have had some people at work say things like "Well what are you gonna do on a roadtrip? Is it any better than your old car really?" I also live in a town currently where EV's are not super widely accepted. My reply is something along the lines of "its a fun, efficient, comfortable and cheap to maintain car, and i like it a lot! It's pretty hard to find a car that overlaps in all of those areas nowadays." Havent gotten any of the "My car is better" stuff though, unless it's something really obvious like "Well can it tow at all?"

HmmDoesItMakeSense 2026-01-14 04:41

Don’t care at all. Word of advice the best gift you can give yourself is authoring your own life. People love to stop people from doing what they want. Don’t ask them what they think it doesn’t matter.

Foreign-Draft-1715 2026-01-14 04:45

By not getting a new Tesla Y after my lease expires. I do not like spending a lot of money on a car and then getting insulted by some idiots.

Minisfortheminigod 2026-01-14 04:47

Tesla hate in real life is fake. It only lives on Reddit.

13Maschine 2026-01-14 04:55

-SUBW00FER- 2026-01-14 05:07

Why do you care? Reddit and internet hates pickup trucks, Jeeps, Dodge Challengers as well. You also see r/Nissandrivers shitting on Altimas and such. This is nothing new, no need to have a victim complex and just enjoy your car

ween0t 2026-01-14 05:10

Who the hell cares. We have a Tesla and I drive a heavily modified 4Runner. Both serve their purposes. It’s just a car. Enjoy it and who cares what people think.

jburnelli 2026-01-14 05:17

i've had zero hate. Honestly, zero anything. Teslas are all over the place now, nobody really cares.

[deleted] 2026-01-14 05:49

I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m in a suburb that’s immediately outside of Seattle and 1 out of 5 cars is a Tesla. Nobody cares anymore and a lot of the drama has died down by now.

Old_Bowl1662 2026-01-14 05:55

I’ve driven a non Tesla EV since 2012 and it quickly convinced me that EVs are a better fit than ICE vehicles for most people. Early on I tried encouraging others to switch but most people stick with what they know. Now I answer EV curious questions in a more neutral manner and figure they will make the move when they’re ready. I now own a Model 3 but I’m not tied to Tesla or Elon. I’ll always choose whatever makes the most sense for my needs. No need to overthink it. Enjoy your car.

Formal-Tradition6792 2026-01-14 05:59

LOL 😂! Agreed!

Formal-Tradition6792 2026-01-14 06:03

Well I don’t drive a Tesla. I DO drive an EV!

1dayday 2026-01-14 06:12

I pay zero attention to haters. They are probably too poor to own one anyway.

[deleted] 2026-01-14 06:13

Kinda like Apple or BTC or EA. Nobody hates these outside of Reddit and YouTube(aka irrelevant dudes)

Eternaloptimist35 2026-01-14 06:18

I reacted by examining what I thought of the company and its CEO... and selling my Model 3 and buying a Polestar 2....

Underdonesleet6 2026-01-14 06:31

3 years when I got my first EV(Tesla) differing sides of my family/friends/acquaintances/coworkers responded to my ev purchase about how you expect. In the last year many of those same people share wildly different opinions. I guess… I bought a Tesla because of economy and cost combined with the most complete EV package. I spend less money on my M3P than many people do on their vehicle when you look at all in cost. My decisions matter to me, if I was worried about the random opinion of the ignorant I would have never been able to get myself a Tesla. Something something first world problem…. Biggest argument for you I see is work, if it affected my business I would consider otherwise

-error---404-- 2026-01-14 06:32

Luckily and finally I'll give my one back in march. The car is cool, no hate. But with such a CEO, no fucking way. I cannot support such a facsist. I'm from Europe and Space Karen divide our democracy with hate, lies and facsism. No way.

Ok_Individual4716 2026-01-14 06:40

Ignoring what other people think since it’s not a car for them. People tend to hate things they don’t have.

Ready-Rip3802 2026-01-14 06:44

Never experienced it. Usually ppl have questions involving out dated info so I just correct it.

Ok_Firefighter_1573 2026-01-14 06:48

I hate myself for buying it in the first place, so can’t anyone from the hate I get, which is none though. He shouldn’t have got my money. I actually like the car, but the man. Jikes

Lopsided-Building245 2026-01-14 07:04

I am working with AI tech and since then, people around me treat me sometimes like a bond villain for fun. Got a hitlergruß right at the beginning from a random, because we bought the car with a huuuuge discount during the time elon fucked up the US government. I knew that this would happen but I also know, that I got a very good car for an unbelieveable good price, so I am happy with that

Comfortable-Cap-2512 2026-01-14 07:08

I ask them if they have ever owned a VAG vehicle and if they know the founder. I ask them if they apologised then, had a sticker then; "bought this after he blew his brains out in the bunker"? 9 times of 10 in Europe, people have owned or still own a VAG. They tend to quickly shut up :)

Aartsie 2026-01-14 07:17

Laughing when they complain about high gas prices 😂

Wrong_Injury 2026-01-14 07:22

i find it funny that some people find it necessary to justify their decisions by putting up stickers saying " i got this car before Elon went crazy". I loved the car i test drove, I bought it. My opinion about the car hasn't changed after 3 years.

nacari0 2026-01-14 07:38

I think ppl who r suspect to easily hate on things they dont understand and take rash decisions without much thought, r ppl I don't really spend energy on. Especially after trying to reason with em. U find em in all parts of life, and their shortcomings will b their own wrongdoings in other parts of their life.

[deleted] 2026-01-14 07:59

Rfreaky 2026-01-14 08:16

I just agree with everything they have to say have just leave.

Ragnogrimmus 2026-01-14 08:35

Well the burning of fossil fuels is getting hairy. It seems like more of a US thing atm. BYD in the mean time is taking over the rest of the world with more affordable EV's. Tesla is also global but sells mostly higher quality cars versus the competition. It may come back to bite the global population in the ass. I am guessing and there are to many variables for me to point to in a small post. With that said EV's regardless in 10 years should be 500 miles epa on a charge. You may see some higher priced ones at 6 to 800 miles a charge. The grid will need more solar and battery, especially for the private sector. The industrial sector on the Solar stuff has been axed by 20% or so since the humanitarian Trump who wants Venezuela to have freedom and more structure in their country. By using naval blockades to cripple there industry and plan for some arrangements. I am honestly just wondering at this point how much more business as usual attitudes will go concerning global pollution and clearly a warming planet. Apparently to run the next level of Artificial or Synthetic Intelligence... or soon to be an alien god like intelligence, needs some nuclear reactors to power the "AI" data centers. Soo... how or why the push back on Solar for? Let me guess its a cheaper energy source in the long run. Wallets vs Air? I wouldn't mind more resources and w/e but why the push back on Solar when it clearly is going to be needed.

Ragnogrimmus 2026-01-14 08:41

From the snapshot judgement I had, Musk might have pulled some hair out dealing with the Biden administration. So he decided to change from a centrist mind set (which he clearly is) "I believe in pro gun and freedom of speech".. bro. This was a comment he made and it made me laugh. Clearly teaming with Trump for these years was a better arrangement from his POV. I really chuckled when he wore a hat that said MAGA is right about everything. I was wondering if he lost a bet. As far as his image, Elon just talks to much. Like Mr. Abercrombie said, "give them a little and they will beg for more... give them to much and fall through the floor" I paraphrased his quote a bit. I am not really certain about AI and robotics and have whatever income you want stuff is.. if you believe that... you will probably see a few... ahem... wars. The dynamics of a world where robotics and AI do all the work will take a lot of time. Saving for retirement is pointless because money won't be the same as it is seen today. So... in essence he is right. Just not for a long time. So save your pennies. There could be a future where labor is almost redundant for humans to get involved with. So the purpose of each life comes with some barriers and hopefully for centuries to come, the purpose can be much greater than most have today. However that's only for some. I am very much skeptical that you will see cash disappear anytime soon.

lnxgod 2026-01-14 08:41

I literally don't care I've owned eight Tesla's at this point currently have four in my fleet including a cybertruck and though there are a lot of s*** talkers online when we take the Cyber truck out kids love it

Simple-Parking8880 2026-01-14 08:41

I couldn't care less. Whenever I hear someone saying nonsense about the Teslas I just smile. Usually they are ignorants who know nothing about the car or they are ignorants who can't afford the car and say they love their ICE motor sound (usually a 1.0 or 1.2 motor). However, I'll gladly discuss pros and cons of the car with anyone curious or with a preference for ICE cars that don't hate for no reason.

Sea_Salamander8909 2026-01-14 08:45

I really don’t care

DangerToManifold2001 2026-01-14 08:50

I’m in a similar position, fellow car enthusiast here, got fed up of dealing with rusty leaky shitboxes so thought I’d get a modern EV for a daily so I have something I can rely on which is cheap to run. Ended up with a Model 3 purely because of how good a value it is. Turns out it’s incredible to drive so that’s been a great plus. I bought a private plate that makes it clear I’m not a fan of n*zi Musk 😂

Inevitable_Freedom 2026-01-14 09:20

Dkaf91 2026-01-14 10:26

I have a 2021 model 3 AWD and a focus ST mk3 on the side with a Ducati SFV4S on the side. I own this vehicle for myself and I can't careless what people think about them. If people share the same passion or are curious about cars and motorcycles I gladly share my knowledge with them. I completely ignore haters and people that judge without knowing me.

grtpennylane 2026-01-14 10:33

Uh, I drive it. And I love it. If folks don’t like it…they should drive what they like. For instance you, perhaps you should drive a vehicle you’re not ashamed of? I feel like this is some sort of click bait.

Every_Tap8117 2026-01-14 10:35

Funny how Tesla hate is an American thing. I have 22 m3p and have never got or seen any one get hate for their Tesla

TeaMountain3897 2026-01-14 10:58

When people start yapping at me about my car it always reminds me of a quote by Bernard M. Baruch - “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

Powers5580 2026-01-14 11:25

I seem to get nothing but praise but if someone doesn’t like it I really don’t give a flying F

33celticsun 2026-01-14 11:33

Not really. I've seen people that WANT to say something. When you're 6'5" 250 lb and look like a biker, people tend to shy away from negative comments. I have gotten a lot of compliments though.

Due-Arrival-4859 2026-01-14 11:43

I respect that they are allowed their opinions, and they tend to respect mine But then I laugh at them when they spend 10 minutes scraping ice and warming up their engine while my (insert appliance name here) Is already a toasty 25c and ready to go 😊

Dramatic_Meal6483 2026-01-14 11:43

I ignore it

KamilKiri 2026-01-14 11:48

People are afraid of their ignorance and most of the time they love to argue about the topics they don't have a clue about. It's a society thing... + overall hate on the Musk..

hasbigdog 2026-01-14 11:54

My brother in law is a rabid Elon hater and liberal. He will not ride in my model 3 or even look at it. He also told me that Tesla will no longer sell cars in the USA.

Distinct_Bed1135 2026-01-14 12:35

I miss the sound of an exhaust's purr... Now I get the long stares and the randomly being cut off. Initially I thought it was my driving till I started showing my friends clips of me being cut off, because they were convinced it was me causing sitautions, but nope....all random hatred. I guess I don't care enough what other people with nothing else better to do than to hate random strangers. I have to much going on in life and providing for my family to care about some whack job's obession.

SassySasquatch27 2026-01-14 12:39

I feel the hate is starting to reduce now china is flooding the market with they’re cheap ev’s.

fufumcchu 2026-01-14 12:48

I usually just ask why don't you like them? Have you ever tried driving one? By the time they bring up their concerns or questions usually they have the well, I will consider it i suppose look.

UnfazedBrownie 2026-01-14 12:53

Most of the haters drive SUVs that use premium fuel. Sometimes I need to remind them that I’m getting 5x mpg than them.

Big-Turnip4984 2026-01-14 13:04

I laugh because we’re driving the most technologically advanced vehicle ever made. The ignorance is real

JackfruitCrazy51 2026-01-14 13:18

In my mind, I automatically assume they are idiots. So far, this assumption has been 100% correct.

constantreader15 2026-01-14 13:25

They like old tech lol. Never thought about it in those terms but it tracks.

constantreader15 2026-01-14 13:30

I love my M3P but Elon is def our enemy. Dodge cost the government 10 BILLION to pay people to not work. Thousands killed overseas by the shutdown of USAID.

silentwheels 2026-01-14 13:34

I simply reply by saying: “hearing you talk like this, an EV is not for you.” Some of friends and family could not even say congrats on the purchase. My mother in law would make comments about Elon Musk when we would go there for a cup of coffee. Some friends would call my Tesla “plastic fantastic”. A colleague told me that “his friend kicks parked Tesla’s when sentry mode activates”. Another colleague was openly speaking about his hate against EV’s, while his manager and I were looking at each other like wtf 👀. Other people I know who are on my level of positivity, who also drive nice cars, are complementing my Tesla and we drive each other’s cars. Totally different experience. The haters are trying to distract you. Don’t let them.

EquivalentDay4179 2026-01-14 13:35

I don’t care what people think. remember when people hated large trucks and suvs because that used so much fuel. now people hate on a car because of the maker. I say be well be happy and everyone else is an asshole.

EastEgg74 2026-01-14 13:36

Ignore. Never cared much about strangers opinions. Barely care about the opinions of the people I know lol.

Flashy-Bandicoot889 2026-01-14 13:36

I simply do not care what other people think about my car choices. 🤷🏻‍♂️

VeloxAdAstra 2026-01-14 13:46

These folks are brainwashed and have already made their decision to trade in decency and kindness for self perceived virtue. Only a stupid person does this. Don't let stupid people's self serving opinions bother you. They have to work for their dopamine like the rest of us.

Toastwaver 2026-01-14 14:19

I pulled off the Ts on the back and front and replaced them with silver Grateful Dead (Stealie) logos. It is a subtle way of conveying that we aren't with Elon, without having one of those stickers that calls it out so overtly.

Desperate_Exercise13 2026-01-14 14:19

People love to tell you what’s wrong with your car and yet they have never really tried or driven one. They only know what they’ve been told by the I’ll-informed or oil industry. If I value them I straight up tell them the facts. Otherwise, block, ignore and avoid to move on.

stc313is 2026-01-14 14:24

I haven't gotten any around Pittsburgh. Most people love seeing one up close for the first time. I let anyone test drive. Kids give me thumbs up more than anyone when I drive by them (when it was warmer out). People usually ask questions about how it drives. Even my super liberal friend, we grew up together and couldn't be more opposite politically, but he rode in it and loved it. It's nice to see past politics and just enjoy a car ride lol I do get a few backhand comments about EVs in general, but it's not directed at me or the car. It's just that they choose to not like EVs, and that's fine. People are generally slow to adapt to better technology. For the people who say they like to drive and hear the engine roar, that's perfectly fair. Driving is fun and the sound of driving can be part of it. For people who like to drive, but want a quiet ride, the Model Y is perfect, so there's always a way to find some common ground with people who aren't predetermined to hate.

BinoRing 2026-01-14 14:26

It's confusing how (in the US mainly) teslas went from being symbolised by the left to now being sybolised by the right. Perhaps this was Elon's game all along, he saw his cars were shunned by the right and wanted to capture that market too

Famous-Weight2271 2026-01-14 14:28

The Tesla Model 3 LR RWD is literally rated as the car with the lowest 5-year total cost of ownership. If you drive one of these, as I do, I think you deserve the label of being" financially savvy", but being thought of as "rich" doesn't make sense. (I hope you really are rich, too. A lot of rich people got that way because they are financially savvy.)

lulujunkie 2026-01-14 14:31

I just say “they’re not for everyone” and end the conversation.

HapiHapii 2026-01-14 14:35

I'm not wealthy, no, but I work hard and I'm able to afford what most people can't. Even while having kids and my wife not working. I'm grateful, though, and I have empathy for those who struggle and try to help them. So I don't want to come off as an arrogant prick.

Teslien 2026-01-14 14:39

complain about gas prices. if i'm on the road and see a roadrager, i smile and wave back with both hands while the car drives me til they have to pay attention to the road. one time, this guy kept shouting slurs during traffic til he realized he was slowing down traffic some more

SnortingElk 2026-01-14 14:40

I nor my family has ever experienced any hate from driving our M3. There are literally thousands of them on the road around us. Now, driving the Cybertruck for a weekend? That was a totally different experience, lol. Yes, experienced hate from people.

gadgetgraveyard 2026-01-14 14:40

Not true, it's almost certainly because Elon drove the brand into the ground with his Doge tactics. I drive a non Tesla EV and horseshit isn't on the menu.

AgentAaron 2026-01-14 14:42

Not much hate at all but I do get some genuinely curious questions. We bought two of them at the same time awhile back, and added a third to the family pretty recently. My neighbor came over almost immediately after we bought them and wanted to see how the charger was installed in the garage, asked about performance, then we had to take a drive to an old cemetery because he wanted to see people walking around (I forewarned him that 50% of the time, my Telsa thinks my mailbox is a person). Much of my friend group are VW/Audi owners because I was a big part of that culture for over 2 decades. I still have tons of VW tools, diagnostic equipment, and parts, since most of my friends still gather at my house and stop by to do their routine maintenance. They were shocked when I got rid of my VW for a Tesla, but it was more because they never thought I would do it. I am in a more unique situation personally. I travel (regionally) for work as a cybersecurity auditor. Our company did away with company vehicles and instead gives us a vehicle allowance to purchase our own car (mine is a 2019 M3P). Within the company, most people at the time either bought hybrids, or econo cars (Corolla, Civic, etc.). Only a few of us went full EV, and I am the only one who bought a Tesla. When we go out to lunch, I still get elected to drive because people like to ride in it. People are usually surprised when they learn that my Tesla cost about the same as their Civic, minus the general maintenance costs. I will be shopping for a new car in 2027 (company states that our car has to be under 8 years old). As of right now, I intend on looking at a newer Model 3...but we will see what else is available at the time.

screamingpackets 2026-01-14 14:51

I don’t react because I don’t care what other people think. You’re not going to change their mind, so why bother caring? Life’s too short. Enjoy it.

ed25ca 2026-01-14 15:06

I don't react and also don't care if I got hate.

GoBlues1 2026-01-14 15:12

I have to switch cars with my wife (Toyota owner) when I go see my liberal clients. I dont want to lose a client because of my car.

kittysworld 2026-01-14 15:16

A fiscal conservative except when it comes to government contracts and subsidies for his companies. A social conservative when he judges other people, but a social liberal when it comes to his own lifestyle and behavior. In other words, conservative for others but liberal for himself - all selfish people think like that.

JxK_1 2026-01-14 15:17

Honestly I've never had any sort of hate whatsoever from the left or the right. Nothing said to me at least.

Schnitzhole 2026-01-14 15:19

Like you said i let them drive it. I haven’t had a single bad thing said about it once they actually feel it in action

Groundbreaking_Box75 2026-01-14 15:28

No hate here -at all. They are easily the most common car on the streets where I live - hands down, the smartest car to own. If someone doesn’t like the car - joke is on them 🤷‍♂️

Certain_Comment_5683 2026-01-14 15:28

They have to grow up.

nycuk_ 2026-01-14 15:31

Most people’s Tesla antipathy is based on sheep mentality and not on any subjective or factual opinion. I met a friend for a drink recently and her boyfriend was like ‘urgh not a Tesla’. I asked him what he meant and he just mumbled something about Elon Musk. I asked him what he understood about Musk’s involvement in Tesla and he didn’t know. Most detractors don’t actually know why they’re negative towards Tesla, but just follow the herd. But then most people are idiots.

Godrillax 2026-01-14 15:31

I ignore it and move on. Idc what the others think. I just know my LR with acceleration boost is faster than 95% of the cars driving next to me. Don’t even try at a red light

daviidfm 2026-01-14 15:38

I just tell them I don’t care and move on. I get way more hate for my f150 lightning at this point then my Tesla

thecockmonkey 2026-01-14 15:54

Nobody thinks you're a rich a\*\*hole. Model 3s aren't expensive, and people know it. They dislike you because you're driving a MAGA flag. Whether or not you intend to, that's what's up. Either you're good with that or you're not, but that's what's up.

mampersat 2026-01-14 15:55

I shrug.

Stormrider_762 2026-01-14 16:32

Amen my brotha.

Away-Scar7754 2026-01-14 16:39

It is tough not to not have some reaction to people’s opinions because we all know, whether we admit it or not, that a car is an extension of us and our values, passions, and personality to varying degrees. When asked, I talk about what I enjoy, what I want to see in future iterations, and why it works for me. If none of that resonates with them, I’m totally fine with that. https://preview.redd.it/323cl9z7fcdg1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8eb237fceabd18c01eb2c969681b976387df5aaa

Drawing_Inevitable 2026-01-14 16:42

That’s their problem and it shows how ignorant and uneducated they are. I find that unless a person experienced owning or driving a Tesla they really have no clue what their about. Most opinions change once they do though

Fabulous_Scale4771 2026-01-14 16:46

I don’t care? This is my rule: if you’re not my parents, you’re not grandma, and you’re not my dogs, your existence doesn’t matter to me. That includes your opinions, your views, and who u are. You don’t mess with me, I don’t mess with you.

AgentAaron 2026-01-14 16:59

Not picking on you in any way...but those are easily answered questions. > What if you run out of electricty? While possible...you would really have to try to run the battery to 0%. There is also roadside assistance for this. >Isn't it annoying to have to wait to charge it for so long? 99% of my stops while traveling are 10-12 minutes. I have actually stayed at a charger longer than recommended on multiple occasions to finish eating, shopping, or a bathroom break. >What if the grid goes down? If the grid goes down, so do gas pumps...what's the difference? >But you can't work on it yourself. There is nothing to work on...plus I still have a project car to tinker on when I really want to. >What if you can't plug it in for a few days? I have never encountered this situation...what if you couldn't get gas for a few days? (This happened along the entire east coast a couple years ago).

AgentAaron 2026-01-14 17:01

>Im on year 5 of my Model 3, and hitting the accelerator still gives me a smile every time! They should have the interior camera track smiles/kWh

AgentAaron 2026-01-14 17:07

lol...even as a Tesla owner, I hate the Cybertruck. Its not me to say or do anything about it when I see someone driving one (one of my co-workers has one), but I certainly would never consider owning one. We live in Charlotte, about every 4th car on the road is a Tesla. We recently went back to Albuquerque for a family matter, and I think my wife and I counted 8-10 of them the whole 4 days we were there.

AgentAaron 2026-01-14 17:12

What is going on with yours? I came from VW/Audi. I previously owned everything from R32, GTI, GLI, and a S4. I think my 2019 M3P is quite nice...a little lacking on interior appearance, but its been a good car otherwise.

c6hakr 2026-01-14 17:53

People that haven’t had the pleasure of owning them don’t understand the value they bring to the table. Different vehicles for different reasons.. we use the model Y probably 85% of the time. My diesel truck I use to tow and haul things, occasionally on long trips if we’re hauling more than can fit in the Tesla. Could care less what haters say, it’s been one of my favorite cars!

cowdog360 2026-01-14 17:58

EVs use to be conversation starters where people were genuinely curious. Now after all the politicization and “environmental virtue signaling” unfortunately it’s turned into a jump on the bandwagon diss fest. I just tell people I bought the car because it’s fast, I love technology and how cheap it is to drive. I also toss in the “if I DIYed $5K of solar panels on my house, my car basically has free gas for the next 25 years”.

DrobzBandit 2026-01-14 18:06

Depends on their level of question and research on said topic will definitely let you know how to deal with em. If they are ignorant just let them have an opinion don’t try to convince em. If they have questions based on actual curiosity and intrigue answer them away and lead them to do their own research on the topic or car.

Klutzy_Shallot7251 2026-01-14 18:17

My family has 3 for several years and have never experienced any outward or noticeable hate.

Klutzy_Shallot7251 2026-01-14 18:18

Other options? Yeah, I chose the best one.

TensionDull4610 2026-01-14 18:26

"So he decided to change from a centrist mind set (which he clearly is)" Not really. Biden is centrist, if anything he's slightly to the right from the centre. Bernie is slightly to the left from the centre. Musk supports parties like AFD in Germany or FPO in Austria. Those are far right parties. Just like maga. This is why i'd never buy a new tesla, at least since Jan 2025. That being said, a used tesla is a used tesla. It's not owned by musk, and you're not paying musk if you buy it (unless the seller turns around and gets a new one). So I might buy one in the future to reduce my co2 per km even further from the current figure.

choicemeats 2026-01-14 18:28

gamemaker911 2026-01-14 19:20

tell them EV is for those who own a house. If you don't have one keep crying.

nigelltjee 2026-01-14 19:27

Hating on someone else’s car or having a opinion on someone based on their car is really shortsighted and kind of childish, Couldn’t care less what anyone thinks, as long as I like it and are the first one away from stoplight /s.

Leej-xxx 2026-01-14 19:44

“I hate evs” have you driven one “no” shut up then.

FreeSp1r1ted 2026-01-14 20:01

I bought my MYLR because it worked for me. So what others think doesn't matter to me. As I got older, I come to realize I can never please everyone. No matter what I do, there's always someone who is unhappy with the decisions I made. But there is one person I can please and that's myself. I realized that as long as I am not intentionally hurting others, what truly matters is that people who I love and I am happy. So here's what I have to say. You aren't hurting anyone. You and your kids love it. That's all that really matters. I hope you can put all those negative feelings aside and enjoy your ride.

sm753 2026-01-14 20:20

Dude. Nobody cares as much as you think they do. At least, nobody who matters cares. I got my first Tesla 13 months ago...I live in a southern state, we're hardly EV friendly down here. I also live in an area where I see NUMEROUS other Teslas on the road every time I leave my house. Nobody cares. OP is like: https://preview.redd.it/v1pvn7usiddg1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb5cd1f9bd5958106999f3b4429fd76309053f81

Bbronson123 2026-01-14 20:27

I hated teslas and evs in general until like 2017 when the model 3 came out. I now own a Tesla and can see where a lot of peoples hate comes from. I don’t let it bother me in the slightest and just lean into it if anything.

Engineered_Logix 2026-01-14 20:31

I don’t give a shit what people think. I’m a car nut and have had a M3P for 6 years now. It’s the best daily driver I’ve ever owned. I also have a track/weekend car too and when I tell people my daily driver they don’t understand why. Some listen when I tell them, others are too close minded to even consider the benefits. Not my problem 🤷

yessuz 2026-01-14 20:45

Look at your house garden window. When you are at home. All people who care are there...

hidrafish 2026-01-14 21:05

I have a model 3 highland for daily drive and an Acura RSX type S for the weekends...I get all the hate Tesla and Honda...and I couldnt care less. People hate on EV's just for hating, as soon as someone rides in the tesla with me, they fall in love with it.

theoriginalmtbsteve 2026-01-14 21:22

No one has come up ti me personally with actual hate. I get some questions from time to time about people who are trying to comment in a negative way, doesn’t bother me. I deal with mostly smart people so it isn’t an issue.

rjcarr 2026-01-14 21:42

I’m talking about people that dismiss all EVs but have never driven or even been in one. Nothing to do with Elon or Tesla, they’re just fed misinformation from lying people.

blonktime 2026-01-14 21:42

Yeah I would always answer those questions with similar answers you listed. I was going to type that out, but I was running late to meeting so wasn't able to lol. I still am a believer that EVs, in their current state, do not work for every lifestyle/use case. Using fiancee's farm as an example, the pick up trucks the use for getting around from field to field to do in inspections and what not, would be fine as EVs. The truck/Semi they use to haul cows around? Not a great solution. When towing a trailer, EV ranges PLUMMIT. Most EV chargers are not pull through style, so if they are on the road the whole day driving around while hauling, they either have to block a ton of spaces just to plug in, or unhitch the trailer every hour or so to pull in, plug in, and charge.

BegrudgingRedditor 2026-01-14 21:56

OneEstablishment5144 2026-01-14 22:20

Well, the ice engine I over 100 yrs old. Thanks, Mr. diamler and Benz. They replaced all those horse-drawn carts with piles of poop on the street. Ppl thought that the cars were cleaner since you didn't see poop on the street. Now we can't see our mountains and surroundings due to dirty air. During the pandemic ppl in parts of india saw the Himalayan mountains as the air cleared up. Some didn't know they lived within sight of them. We now have less smog due to air quality rules. Imagine what cleaner air will do for us in the future.

Where I live Teslas are so ubiquitous they might as well be Corollas. No one bats an eye

Ok_Outlandishness945 2026-01-14 23:28

Hate to burst your bubble but you've got to be driving a 7 series or S class etc before people think your rich, nobody thinks youre a rich asshole in a model 3. They most likely just hate Musk.

ExtensionTaco9399 2026-01-14 23:33

i feel guilty for having a car linked to musk and totally understand where folks who hate tesla because of him are coming from. i basically avert my eyes and feel shame.

Civil_Ambition_6302 2026-01-15 00:46

I don’t care what other people think. I love driving the car.  I’m the one who paid for it and drives it.

[deleted] 2026-01-15 00:52

M3P solves 2 of the biggest problems I have with the dual motor long range: suspension and brakes. On the long range they are civic/corolla grade but this is a 2 tonne car that makes almost 500hp. They are lacking to the point of being a hazard. But then the interior isnt great either for the money. Plasticky seats and door trims, cheapo steering wheel, stupid door handles, the wipers, the blazing hot glass roof with no shade for the summer, finicky touch sensitive hazard light button (not sure if pressed or not without taking your eyes off the road during an emergency), no 360 camera view on a car at this price range that is full of cameras, poor routing on native maps vs google/apple maps, poor sound quality on spotify/apple music because the software limits their bandwidth, and many more. And then the horrible after sales / service experience in Europe.

wiffler740 2026-01-15 01:06

I just tell them hey man at least it’s not Prius

Ok_Mammoth7167 2026-01-15 01:30

Why are you concerned with what someone else thinks about the car you have to pay for?

ZweetWOW 2026-01-15 01:31

Ill literally stop hating Tesla owners if they stop abbreviating model 3 to "M3" like it isn't already the greatest dynasty of all time.

tamcookies 2026-01-15 01:43

What boggles my mind are Tesla drivers who have bumper stickers saying “F*** Elon.” Anyone care to explain why they drive a car that’s made by a man they hate so much?

PSNTheGhost 2026-01-15 03:07

I live on the beach side of LA and to be honest, no one cares. Everyone here drives a Tesla. Gas is expensive. So we all get it.

I tell them the instant torque is unbeatable by a combustion engine. Ive owned many performance combustion vehicles and I do miss the exhaust sound from time to time but that instant torque and power is just too much fun.

Delicious_Scratch 2026-01-15 03:10

Ha! We are talking about buying a Cyber Truck. I imagine all the hate flying at me from both sides of the aisle but honestly, I think their sneers will turn to shock when they see a WOMAN driving it. I personally have never seen that before. Thinking of getting it wrapped or something really eye-catching painted on it to make it even more 'unique.'

Delicious_Scratch 2026-01-15 03:13

I made it fart repeatedly outside a restaurant that had huge patios, all windows open, full to the brim with people. They had really pissed me off so everyone got to hear it. My nephew and I were laughing so hard I could hardly breathe.

Delicious_Scratch 2026-01-15 03:15

Agree they are butt ugly but it's about as close as you can get to driving a tank down the highway. We have to drive I-95 from NC to FL pretty regularly and I've almost gotten killed a few times so we are talking about getting one. I think they have gone down a bit in price?

bluejayinoz 2026-01-15 03:51

But Tesla sales are down while EV sales are up, so that's not always true is it.

tastygluecakes 2026-01-15 04:04

I don't think anybody thinks Tesla 3 = rich asshole I think they think owns a Tesla in a post DOGE era = asshole who supports a much larger asshole (Elon) just get one of those "I bought this before I knew Elon was crazy" bumper sticker and consider your self covered

TS3XY 2026-01-15 04:12

Duck what people think 🦆

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 04:23

I don't have FSD and by next month it will be hopefully implemented in Europe. I'm still thinking on whether to buy it with the next car or to leave it, because I drive through Germany (12h drive) once or twice a year and I use lots of autopilot but I still need to keep an eye on it and overtake the slower people. Is FSD a better option for such trips?

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 04:26

Fair takes. Yet, my coworkers are rather ignorant and I've a feeling they won't talk to me because of the Elon Musk thing.

cantgettherefromhere 2026-01-15 04:29

Very definitely yes.

chad_dev_7226 2026-01-15 04:33

“I don’t like your car” “good thing I didn’t buy one for you”

Available_Working565 2026-01-15 04:44

I live in Montana, in the “big” red city everyone pretends to hate (if you know, you know). I’ve only met one person who was clearly anti-EV, and even then they were polite and respectful. Most people are just curious about what it’s like own and drive an electric car. At this point I’m convinced that EV/Tesla hate doesn’t really exist outside of the Internet. And besides, anyone who openly absconds someone else in person for their choice of car is probably not worth talking to anyways.

still_InBloom 2026-01-15 05:02

I don’t care if others hate on it. I used to be a hater too 😅 But I just say it’s way better than my Mercedes or Audi could have ever dreamed of being and how much I love it. I’ll maybe offer to drive them in it so they can see how awesome it is, but no need to debate or over explain, to each their own. Usually they’re the ones driving a pile of 💩 anyway.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 06:08

Sadly they do exist outside of the internet, but yeah, they're not worth talking to. Most of the time they say that EVs are bad but then don't even have a clue how an ICE works lmao

gre-0021 2026-01-15 07:56

Nothing. I just drive it. It’s a car. Real life isn’t Reddit. Not sure what else to say, I live in Missouri so maybe that experience is unique.

Dumb-Account-Name 2026-01-15 08:03

blunt-but-true 2026-01-15 09:29

Let’s not fool ourselves. No one thinks your rich having a Tesla and they are not sporty. And ur kids would love pretty much any car.

iamtheav8r 2026-01-15 12:59

All i've ever had were compliments.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 13:12

I'm coloured too, so people are rather surprised I can afford a Tesla, which is not expensive in my opinion and so many people here drive one that it's not rare either.

jonah_1979 2026-01-15 13:43

I’ve never encountered any hate and neither has my wife we both drive a Tesla.

Here_to_Chill81316 2026-01-15 13:48

This advice works for everything, not specifically just EV stuff. When you stop caring about what other people think (especially people you don’t even know) life becomes more enjoyable. You also spend less as it doesn’t make sense spending money on things you don’t need to impress people you either don’t know or don’t like. I feel you on the car enthusiast dilemma. I come from subaru world (5-6 wrx/sti’s ranging from stock to 500whp) and a flurry of Hondas/Toyotas prior to that. While I miss the boxer rumble, being able to take my m3p to the track or through the canyons without worrying about ringland failure and random things blowing up is nice. Also, my car enthusiast friends, they seem to like my car. I honestly got roasted more for the subarus.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:17

The worst part is that not only people are spreading misinformation, but also the news. The youngsters that burned alive inside of that Cybertruck "because there are no safety latches in the back" for example. What the news never told people is that they were drunk, under the influence of cocaine and methamphetamines, they crashed the Cybertruck so hard against a cement wall that the battery was split in half and, yes, the doors weren't responding, but there were latches that they couldn't find because they were too much under the influence. That crash was so hard that if it was a front engined combustion car it would've exploded. The "Teslas are built cheap" and "Teslas are unreliable" is also bullshit. Factory problems happen with all companies but people have to only point it out when it's a Tesla. Meanwhile ICE cars are like 90% more prone to explode or catch fire and 99% more prone to break. They really succeeded taking Tesla down by talking shit about it, because BYD out of all brands (which are horrible cars and I've driven each one of them except the Yangwang ones and including 3 of their busses), took over the first spot of global sales which sounds more like the Chinese tampering with numbers again since a huge part of the sales are in China. Sorry, but Tesla have done some stupid mistakes the past few years and now they're finally picking up on their mistakes and with all honesty, they're cooking. I'm so excited for the next Tesla news now and what's coming this and next year, and no other brand can actually build such hype like Tesla does.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:32

I say "M3P" for mine. It's just an abbreviation. And if you think BMW M3s are any good, wait until you try one out. You'll hate it more than anything. Least comfortable car I've ever driven, both the normal F80 and the G80 M3CS. The M4s, M5s and the M8s are amazing though.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:33

Not concerned, just wondering if everyone else has it too. I'm tired of hearing the same stuff for the last 5y

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:33

Hate on the Prius as much as you want but they're great cars lmao

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:34

I don't. Just tired of hearing the same comments all the time.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:35

Really? It's just a car and Elon is just an idiot

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:37

I did have a 2014 BMW 750i, a 2016 M-B E220 AMG and a 2018 Audi A6 BiTDi 3.0 (C7) before the Tesla, but back then nobody thought I was rich (which I'm not, I'm just good at sales).

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:39

That's awesome. I'm currently also looking into buying a weekend Japanese car and an FK8 Civic TypeR has been in my mind for a few months.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:42

Yeh, back in 2016, I used to say that the world wasn't ready for EVs yet and I wasn't a fan of then either, but I've always been a person that tries things before I talk, so I did, and now I've had a Model 3 Performance since 2020 and I love it. It's the best all-round daily car without a doubt.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:43

People truly ask me all the time what I do to be able to afford such cars. Where I live, there are many Teslas, but not everyone can afford such.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:48

I get the "Yes, I drove one and I didn't like it because... *Insert vague problem that happens with any car*"

hidrafish 2026-01-15 14:49

FK8 have a infamous problem, if you push too hard they overheat. I believe Acuity has a few solutions, but keep it in mind.

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 14:52

I've been looking at other options too but it's all for next year, that's why I haven't done my thorough research yet. I'm looking at the Civic Type R, Lancer Evo X, MR2 Gen 2, Toyota Chaser, Silvia S13/S14/S15 or a Lexus SC 300/400. So there's plenty of choice, but the TypeR is the only one I've gone and tested so far. I got to drive 2 Honda NSX the same day (The new one and the old one to test the differences and improve drag on the new one).

Really? You don't think the Prius are good cars? They're fuel efficient, ride smooth and are reliable. Not sporty at all and quite ugly, but that doesn't make them bad cars. They get hated on purely because people used to hate on hybrids just like they hate EVs now. That's why they call them "Gay" cars, because they run electric

gregredmore 2026-01-16 07:33

I just checked and the USA like Northern Europe experiences periods of "Dunkleflaute" or anticyclonic gloom and low winter in winter. This is an extended period (months) low low wind and gloomy skies where wind and solar generation drops to a fraction of its peak and some other power generation system like gas is needed to fill the gap. Battery storage cannot fill a gap in generation that long. Some countries are experimenting with hydrogen storage on salt caverns for long term energy storage. This does not come cheap. These gloom conditions can last 2+ years out of a decade long cycle.

Ragnogrimmus 2026-01-16 10:14

Gloomy winters? Yeah sure. New Mexico in the next 20 years with breakthroughs in panel tech and battery technology could power alot of stuff. 200GW of output should be doable.Thats about 500 TWhs annually. That can also be sent around the country. New Mexico is dry sunny land and no one is there. Its the 5th largest land mass in the US. Regardless you also are going to see water shortages. Its about profit and not disrupting bank accounts. Tsk tsk tsk... US has been a major super power for a century, if general needs are not met... my god.. watch as shit erupts. I dont see enough future planning for growth, as water and energy are nearing capacity, the SW US is now experiencing a mega drought... the worst in 12,000 years. The Amazon is now entering hypertropic meaning the dry season is to much to sustain. Etc etc etc.. Human population has boomed in 40 years. Very successful, with a rising debt and natural reserves nearing capacity, things NEED to adapt or your showers will be metered with a biometric login 8 mins per day... these things could happen.

I think the hate on Tesla has been short-lived. I haven't encountered much comment against Tesla. A 2022 model 3 with 160,000 km with 95% battery remaining is excellent. I have no complaints whatsoever. What you feel about the complaint that Consumer Report indicates about the squeaks and rattles of the chassis in the car and all the recalls?

HapiHapii 2026-01-16 14:09

I think that it's all bullshit. I've been driving a Model 3P and abusing it for almost 6 years and it's never made a noise. It can happen as much as with any other brand but the media likes to hate on Tesla

rasin1601 2026-01-16 14:24

We live in an era where he gets away with voicing really disgusting stuff, taken straight from 1980s Stormfront. Ironically, as a stockholder and an owner, I hope everyday that he continues to get away with it. He’s put many people, including his Board of Directors, in a morally corrupt position.

OZRosieFans 2026-01-16 14:58

Chanceller48 2026-01-16 15:17

I don't know anyone with a Tesla, let alone a Model 3, which was the reason for asking. Good to know your experience. Thank-you. Did you do the recalls?

HapiHapii 2026-01-16 15:20

What recalls? I've had the same car since I bought it and never took it back for any problems unless it was wear like the 12v battery and an off centered steering wheel.

Chanceller48 2026-01-16 15:23

Interesting. Consumer Reports says there have been 16 recalls. Glad your car is great.

Dude. M3P Highland owner here. I literally spent my bday yesterday doing a BG EPR treatment and oil change on my Mom’s Honda Fit w/170k bc I got a 420 CEL code (bad cat), and realized the quart of oil we’re adding monthly was likely the culprit. CEL turned off within 10 miles!!! She’s still not sold on the Tesla tho… Will she ever get a Tesla tho FSD would give her failing sight another few years of mobility? We’ll see, pun intended! Mechanical PE here who came from a track-only IS-F, GX460, and Ducati Multistrada. Was shocked to not miss any of them!! Btw - gotta love oil evacuators… had oil changed in 10mins, didn’t get under car once. Filter I could just reach from top.

HapiHapii 2026-01-18 05:55

That's just stupid

Quaiche 2026-01-18 10:08

That’s strange, the Tesla cars have been consistently a worse experience than the cars I already own.

Diecitres 2026-01-18 10:10

Tbh I was Tesla owner for 2.5 years and I, myself, had love and hate relationship with the car. I never cared about other people’s opinion. But i can tell you that people are heavily biased of Tesla more than other EV cars, and we all know the reason why. Also some people get car sick in EV cars because of sudden acceleration compare to gas cars. It is understandable. You do not have to explain yourself to others as long as you like the car and it fits to your life style. That’s only what matters. I can tell you why I had love and hate relationship with the car and here is my honest opinion about it: 1- Tesla has the greatest hidden cost. It is Time . You can earn most of the things in the world back but time cannot come back. Unfortunately while Tesla ‘s charging infrastructure is the strongest one compare to the other EV cars, charging itself as an activity, routing to the charging stations, charging time is still not well developed yet. Car should be something that makes our life easier not complicated. Unfortunately, Tesla comes with planning your trip in advance and requires you to think about charging especially in long trip. Routing to superchargers adds 20 + , 30+ mins to your plan. And in cold weathers, it is so painful to even supercharge this car in the middle of no where charging stations. For me, the charging should not take more than 5 mins and it should not disrupt travel plans. As long as it is not that convenient, unfortunately it is not well developed tech yet. 2- Mileage—whether Standard Range or Long Range—doesn’t make a significant difference. The displayed range on a Tesla is not fully accurate in real-world conditions. In practice, the battery cannot realistically be used below 10%, as most drivers avoid the risk. Likewise, due to daily usage and battery health recommendations, it typically cannot be kept above 80% (or 90% for Long Range models). As a result, the actual drivable range is much lower. For the Standard Range in particular, depending on driving behavior and conditions, the realistic usable range is around 210 miles. For comparison, my 2023 Tesla was rated at 271 miles, but the real-world range was considerably less. My friend has long range he has exact headache. 3- There is still uncertainty about the future of this technology. I believe the EV sector could be developed more thoughtfully instead of being so heavily focused only on battery capacity and driving range. More attention should be given to charging infrastructure and long-term sustainability, especially how to address battery degradation and potential safety hazards once the battery reaches the end of its life years later. 4- Cardrive > Tesla own app still. So they need to develop it. I think Tesla app is being neglected for years. It should be improved more. 5- It is very fun car to drive. Acceleration and controlling the car feels so great. It is very easy to control it and drive it. 6- Design. I really love the sporty look of Model 3 2023 white pearl. The car interior is very refreshing as well. 7- I believe it can be very good second car in home. To drive kids to school, or going to grocery, very short trips . 8- Car is so bumpy. It makes you feel everything on the road. 9- it is a safe car to drive 10- owning Tesla does not require oil change or there is no risk of engine failure yet it is still expensive to maintain. Since the exterior panels are Alimunium , if any panel is dented it cannot get PDR if you take it to the Tesla certified body shop. They ll tell you to replace the panel and each panel costs around $2500. I scratched 3 panels on my car. And Tesla even suggested me to replace the doors while it was not that serious. And they told me it ll cost $9k . I took care of it on my own by only paying $1.5k . My roof glass is cracked because of small stone that was bumped from a truck carrying stones. And they asked $3k to replace it. So any maintenance is very expensive and Tesla service is not the best. I do not even talk about tire issues because of acceleration. Unfortunately, it did not fit in my life style and expectations and I sold it. If the things I pointed out are advanced more in future , I can reconsider again

HapiHapii 2026-01-18 10:45

Well. I have no issues with time because I charge at home. I do go on roadtrips with it because it's cheaper than with my other cars and I can put as many miles on my Tesla as I want. And you say it like Tesla has that hidden cost. Every EV has it, but it's made easier by Tesla because other EV manufacturers make it slower and have no own supercharging network. The app is fine imo. I'm a designer (sidejob) and I don't think the app is bad, but it needs a little refresh because it hasn't been changed in a while. Still better than a set of boring keys, though. The car is bumpy because it's made to have a stiff suspension to be a sporty car. The new 2024 model 3 has adaptive suspension, so that's something they changed.

Diecitres 2026-01-18 15:51

I agree that all EV cars have that hidden cost. What I meant is that Tesla has the superior infrastructure compared to the other EVs and still it is very slow in my opinion. EV sector need more time.

HapiHapii 2026-01-18 15:55

Indeed. EVs still need to develop and at this rate, by 2030, we should have EVs that do better than ICE vehicles. We're already seeing some crazy chinese cars with a lot of range and awesome options like Zeekr and Xiaomi. For now, EVs are more favorable for patient people or people that can charge at home.

One-Sundae-2711 2026-01-18 17:15

i dunno it looks damn clean too. the tesla brand is poisoned but the lines are still great on this car. i have high hopes that it can be a great car brand again sometime. https://preview.redd.it/x6vk4io755eg1.jpeg?width=2440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47b239cd6ba7caeec3772d70bba1fa08d26dda92

Defiant-Opposite-501 2026-01-20 12:36

Oh, and everything you say about ICE cars vs Teslas is correct. In the last six months I've owned it my used Model 3, I've bought a set of wiper blades. That's the extent of what I've spent, aside from occasional Supercharging. It's time for a tire rotation though.

Tesla-Dawg 2026-01-20 16:28

I wish that was true. Tesla hate has died down but still exists. A year ago Teslas were getting keyed and set on fire IRL.

Minisfortheminigod 2026-01-20 17:08

A small amount that was hyper sensationalized, but on average I don’t believe it, no one has thought a bad direction in me in my Telsa.

TensionDull4610 2026-02-02 11:03

I really hope he gets fired. I imagine stock could tank temporarily but in a long run, it would be better for tesla. Then again, chances of that happening are almost 0.

He’s a billionaire that wants more government subsidies that he doesn’t need. Any money he takes from us when he could fund his business himself like all the rest of us small business owners do is less money we have for public schools, healthcare and anything else that benefits the public good. He’s definitely our enemy. Unless you are a fellow billionaire.
