IMO the Model 3 Performance is the best all-rounder car Tesla makes, fight me.

No need to fight my friend. That’s a beautiful car!

Schnitzhole 2026-01-11 23:41

It’s a great car but If you want handling and performance the S beats it in almost all ways. If you want practicality the model Y handles almost the same but has 3x the storage volume. “Best” is very subjective to your needs

Masteguy635 2026-01-11 23:44

Yet another karma farming account going around car subs posting pictures with no source whatsoever

Sierraskid 2026-01-11 23:50

You are posting in the model3 sub. I think you’re going to find a few people who agree with you here. Here’s something to fight about- It’s the worst winter car.

And_Im_Chien_Po 2026-01-11 23:51

I always hear about how the m3p handles better though?

nagelk87 2026-01-11 23:53

Y Performance would like to have a word

collegeqathrowaway 2026-01-11 23:55

Model S. Looks better, is faster, gets better range.

pc772 2026-01-11 23:55

Enjoy that beauty

pc772 2026-01-11 23:55

Why’s it worse than the Model S?

pc772 2026-01-11 23:56

Y Performance isn’t as fun on the track or even when driving as the seat position is nowhere near as engaging as the M3P

nagelk87 2026-01-11 23:58

track driving is one small part of being a great all around car. Y performance does 95% of what the 3 performance does, but the opposite isn't true

rocker_01 2026-01-12 00:06

Used to own all three. The 3 handles better and has greater driving feel vs the S, and both are miles ahead of how the Y handles.

TSLAog 2026-01-12 00:12

As an employee that worked at Tesla for a decade, I agree. It’s definitely the best model and trim. Model-X 60D was the worst.

brayjr 2026-01-12 00:12

I've heard the highland M3P feels better than the S. More refined which makes sense

Legym 2026-01-12 00:15

Just picked up a M3 performance!! Same exterior and interior as the picture. This car looks so freakin good!!

collegeqathrowaway 2026-01-12 00:16

Not sure why this is being downvoted? It’s my opinion that the car looks better, and it’s objectively a fact that it’s faster and has longer range.

Hot-Accountant-4425 2026-01-12 00:17

Agreed https://preview.redd.it/wfs594y5atcg1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=884b4c9f6acb4524ee31f03cd33da3ea6a96a4cb

dishwashersafe 2026-01-12 00:19

I'll fight you only by claiming my "stealth" performance is better all around because it fits the OEM 18s which are more efficient and has better/cheaper winter tire options.

ctzn4 2026-01-12 00:20

>If you want handling and performance the S beats it in almost all ways Not in most metrics besides acceleration, and I'm pretty sure the new M3P could be faster than the MSLR in 0-60. The S is heavier and decidedly tuned more for comfort than handling. Kyle at Out of Spec has criticized his Plaid on the track. A car is not just a spec sheet and a price tag, you know.

ctzn4 2026-01-12 00:24

I'd argue the opposite is also true, though. M3P does 95% of what the MYP does as well. The main difference is just cargo capacity, which is just one small part of being a daily performance vehicle.

Sevauk 2026-01-12 00:24

we're all going to agree here. Let's try posting this on r/cars and see what happens

Hot-Accountant-4425 2026-01-12 00:26

But it’s big and it’s heavy and it doesn’t drive the same. I honestly had it for the day and didn’t like it… having the screen in front of you and then another screen on the side I felt was even worse… now I’m just going back-and-forth from screen to screen. Easier to just focus on the one screen…. It also was a lot harder to park being a larger vehicle, just did not have the same feel I’m personally use to, which is a midsize car…

LifeOnTheBigLake 2026-01-12 00:26

M3 AWD LR would like to have a word. : )

fastoid 2026-01-12 00:38

If you want to squabble, then post this on r/whatcarshouldibuy subreddit, not here 😂

CousinEddysMotorHome 2026-01-12 00:39

I think the current tesla model 3 is one of the best vehicles ever designed.

MountainManGuy 2026-01-12 00:43

You kinda shot yourself in the foot when you said all-rounder. The Y is Tesla's best all-rounder. That's why it sells the most.

CoconutNext775 2026-01-12 00:47

No MY drives like minivan. Not even close

CoconutNext775 2026-01-12 00:48

I drive one, every time in it I feel line a tuna in a tuna can

Nomarhits400 2026-01-12 00:58

Yeah, no way the S handles better than the 3- that’s ridiculous- that thing is just too heavy…straight line performance? That’s a whole other thing- S reigns supreme there.

EliteForever2KX 2026-01-12 00:59

Best looking too

Psice 2026-01-12 01:01

If you don't need the extra storage of the model y

FastRedPonyCar 2026-01-12 01:03

Best all around sedan on sale right now PERIODT. I’m on my second one after a brief stint with a BMW X3M Competition https://i.imgur.com/5wcYd6p.jpeg

nagelk87 2026-01-12 01:05

Cargo capacity, ride comfort, headroom, rear legroom, etc. There's a reason the model Y is the best selling car in the world. Model 3 is great, but it's not the do everything car.

Away-Scar7754 2026-01-12 01:07

I am enjoying my M3LR so much. First Tesla so I can’t compare, however It does everything I want and it feels good to drive https://preview.redd.it/zuro60h4jtcg1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d30b88484d012d1812da3c4e052718b6d218bf7b

Sierraskid 2026-01-12 01:08

🤷‍♂️ I don’t own a Model S, so genuine questions: Do the door handles and charge port freeze shut? Does it get stuck in two inches of snow while the traction control computer has an existential crisis? Does the windshield cowl have enough room for snow storage, or does it pack up immediately? Do the interior windows fog the moment you turn the HVAC down from whole gail? How many of your tail lights have been replaced by Tesla Mobil Service for condensation issues? I’ll assume the usual 30% winter range loss and won’t bother asking. *The stuck comment is largely rhetorical, I run snow tires. Unfortunately, good tires can’t make up for a system with genuinely lousy driving manners.

NegotiationPrudent80 2026-01-12 01:10

Not sure if best-selling equals better. SUVs sell better than sedans across the board.

nagelk87 2026-01-12 01:10

Must be a coincidence then 🤣

NegotiationPrudent80 2026-01-12 01:10

Hang on... I'll grab my popcorn 🍿

ZL1_Daygo 2026-01-12 01:15

Model Y does NOT handle the same the model 3 is so much more nimble

1nolefan 2026-01-12 01:24

Right - I don't want to fight you - 💯👍

collegeqathrowaway 2026-01-12 01:32

These are fair opinions.

midnight_to_midnight 2026-01-12 01:37

It's not a notchback/hatchback. IF it were, I would totally agree with you. I love my 2019 M3P, I just wish they'd make it a notchback/hatchback like the Model S though. It so much easier to carry and load shit into my Model S than it is in my Model 3.

warriormango1 2026-01-12 02:00

Yeah super weird.

fs454 2026-01-12 02:11

https://preview.redd.it/j0zuvim4utcg1.jpeg?width=3854&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e5c8f2b35ec188a591e4f0e65ee9ebce7f754d8 Love mine. Extremely well rounded vehicle and FSD v14 is bonkers good. Drove this across the US from MA to SoCal and from SoCal to Seattle and back and plan on continuing to drive the absolute piss out of it, lol.

fs454 2026-01-12 02:21

Car does just fine in snow and the AWD system is insanely good, not sure what you're getting at here. The door handles can freeze as they can on any Tesla but you can release the door latch from the app in the event this happens. No issues with the cowl, no issues with fogging if you're preconditioning the car. Taillights having a little condensation in them after wet weather is normal as they're not sealed and this is hardly an "issue" that's widespread requiring lots of replacements. I drove my M3P cross country during the cold snap last February where it was snowing in states that never got snow. Car drove great. Range loss was there as it is with every EV. Still was able to do the 206 mile stretch through Oklahoma between SCs even with the performance model.

brmendez 2026-01-12 02:31

Sweet ride

Shakurs2pac 2026-01-12 02:39

The Y handles nowhere near the 3. Like not even in the same planet. The Y handles good in the minivan class maybe

glaciers4 2026-01-12 02:42

Agree. I had a Highland M3P which was awesome but wound up needing 6 seats and more space so I upgraded to an MXP and it’s the perfect vehicle for me.

flaks117 2026-01-12 03:05

Powered frunk, hatchback, middle console ambient lighting, storage behind front seats, normal door handles, gear and indicator stocks, model s/x tacometer. That’s my perfect model 3 performance and I’d pay 60k for it all over again at the drop of a hat.

midnight_to_midnight 2026-01-12 03:16

Tacometer? Does it work for both crunchy and soft tacos? 😆 And I agree, map pockets on the back of the front seats would be a welcomed addition. I don't like ambient lighting in the car, I want it as dark as possible inside the cabin at night. I don't mind the action of the 3/Y door handles, and like that they're flush for better efficiency, I just wish they weren't electronically actuated and were mechanical instead.

Jaws12 2026-01-12 03:21

Ditto, love my 2018 M3LR RWD, super efficient, great on road trips. 77k miles so far and still going strong. 💪

Hot-Accountant-4425 2026-01-12 03:41

The S feels much bigger… heavier…bigger feel for sure.

brsmr123 2026-01-12 03:53

M3 sucks pretty much all the other categories against Model Y so fun to drive aspect just can't change the result much.

emptyquant 2026-01-12 04:25

Did you drive it in a frozen lake in Lapland?

Weep4Thee 2026-01-12 04:31

If it was a hatch, I would agree. But if u got small stuff, 100%.

Wilder831 2026-01-12 04:37

There is a reason the model 3 holds the electric production vehicle record on pikes peak and not the S. The S holds the record for modified electric vehicle but the fastest it has ever been done with a stock S was 46 seconds slower than the 3 record.

Wilder831 2026-01-12 04:50

I agree. The Toyota Corolla is second to the Y. I’m not hating on the Corolla, but it being the second best selling doesn’t make it the second most capable. There are a lot of factors that go into best-selling. The Y in 2024 (which is when it was the number one selling vehicle) was one of the least expensive SUV’s on the market when you considered all of the incentives. I believe they even offered 0% APR financing for a while. It was like $38k with 0% APR after the EV tax credit. Of course sales were high, it was a no brainer.

Wilder831 2026-01-12 04:55

It’s faster in a straight line. “Looks better” is an opinion, which you are absolutely entitled to. I didn’t personally downvote you btw, but there is more to speed than just 0-60 times

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 05:13

*Anybody makes. Fixed it.

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 05:15

Gah so jelly of that QS. At least I got 2% APR on white after refusing delivery of space grey

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 05:17

You had me til the Y comparison. Even YP drives like a school bus compared to M3P. I A/B’d them for this very reason.

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 05:18

Hm wonder if it was mine! Hahaha jk but seriously did have it delivered to CS so I could take it up PP.

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 05:20

Sorry it really doesn’t. YP is a dog vs 3P. Source: I track the piss out of my cars… and still tow with my M3P

kftnyc 2026-01-12 05:43

Anyone who fights you is wrong. I recently had a Model X loaner for a week and getting back into my M3P was incredibly enjoyable.

Dull_Support_4919 2026-01-12 05:48

Id say the long range would be the best all around. It gets excellent range. Almost a 100 more miles of range than the performance in real world driving. But its fast enough to still smoke most cars on the road and be thrilling to drive. If they release a performance boost for it like they did the last generations and bring the 0 to 60 down to 3.7 like the last gen it would further drop that difference.

Status_Bluebird_2308 2026-01-12 05:51

As a 3 owner, id say the Y would be the best because bigger boot and higher ride.

[deleted] 2026-01-12 06:03

Love it. But my bumper hits everything. Needed something with more clearance. I guess it's good if you live somewhere flat

Nick6468 2026-01-12 06:48

I want that exact spec. Hopefully sometime soon.

sopsaare 2026-01-12 07:17

Yeah. I do have the M3LR and enjoy it, though I would have gotten the performance if it didn't come with the stupid big wheels. They reduce range, the rubber costs more and the potholes here are just brutal. Or maybe I wouldn't, but that was a complete deal breaker so I just couldn't get past that. And of course I could have swapped the wheels and all that, but being my first "new car", I didn't really feel like that either. And after all, the LR is plenty fast.

Bixnoodby 2026-01-12 07:46

Bro, you are seriously overestimating the value of your shitty posts on this site. Just constant stream of garbage content of use to fucking no one. And the worst part? Tesla subs are filled with you weirdos. You can’t imagine the level of disgust most well-adjusted people feel when coming upon your posts

cwiceman01 2026-01-12 08:05

I completely agree. I didn't need the extra power of the M3P but I did drive the M3 dual motor and the Y just to compare the two. The Y is way more practical technically but the handling just isn't there. It makes sense why but there is no comparison when it comes to that. Suffice to say I got the M3 dual motor.

DaHunni 2026-01-12 08:09

Owning a SR+ I just can't get used to the stiffer suspension for longer drives. Other than that amazing car

Just_Newspaper6145 2026-01-12 08:28

All-rounder? More like very niche no?

AJHenderson 2026-01-12 08:55

I could fight you but I'd be wrong.

InterstellarChange 2026-01-12 08:57

S is a great GT car. Highway miles. 3 just handles better and much more "sporty"

SomeFuckingMillenial 2026-01-12 10:20

I feel the same way about my MYP.

nagelk87 2026-01-12 10:25

just cause you can "still" tow doesn't make it better. Y is better for towing, carrying cargo, and can still be taken to track. It's the better all purpose vehicle

Away-Scar7754 2026-01-12 10:37

Plenty fast for sure. I couldn’t justify the add’l cost of going to the M3P

MrT20000 2026-01-12 11:12

Brake calipers also in ultra red?

Definitely_Maybe_OK 2026-01-12 11:21

The S is a boat compared to the 3.

zyneman 2026-01-12 12:49

i thought his post was fine. maybe yo uare the weirdo

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 12:52

Track. Lol. No.

nagelk87 2026-01-12 12:58

Cargo. Comfort. Passengers. Lol. No.

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 12:58

Great car! That was my first dealer test drive before I even knew they’d released the Highland. It’s a different car entirely, SO much improved!

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 13:04

Y holds more than 5 passengers? Didn’t think so. Seats half as good as the M3P buckets? No. And my 3 holds all the cargo I need, bc I don’t have rugrats or live at Pottery Barn. Cargo. That is it. It’s the minivan of Teslas.

nagelk87 2026-01-12 13:18

Y does hold more than 5 passengers, there was a 7 seat config and now the YL exists. And those 5 passengers sit more comfortable than in the 3 it's not even close. The Y Performance seats clear the 3 seats, not even a question. And just because YOU don't have much cargo or kids, doesn't mean that applies to everyone. Hence the title "best all around" Each car in the lineup has its purpose, both are great cars, but the 3 has more compromises than the Y. If you don't have kids and want to track a car then yeah I'd be questioning why you would buy a Y. But again you aren't the only demographic in the world 🤡

Silvoan 2026-01-12 15:27

hard agree on the wheels. I popped several tires on my M3P before I switched from the 20" wheels to some 18" wheels. Really wish it was an option that Tesla offered with new M3Ps

sopsaare 2026-01-12 15:33

Yep, it kind of kills the vibe, at least to me, to take a brand-new car to the tire shop, source some 18" Tesla wheels, get all that done for couple of grands and hope to sell the 20" to someone without getting scammed.

sopsaare 2026-01-12 15:35

The 3 is surprisingly nimble for its weight. It is bit uncanny how well it goes on the small country roads here where I used to think that Miata or Golf GTI is the weapon of the choice.

Sierraskid 2026-01-12 15:35

So, what exactly makes the AWD system insanely good? Is it the front motor bias? The lack of a mechanical limited slip or torque vectoring? Maybe it’s the promise of a 95% power cut in low grip situations? Or those lovely moments when the stability control gets overwhelmed, panic locks the brakes and leaves you stuck on an uphill? Tesla likes to tout that its AWD impersonation technology can react in 100 milliseconds. Unfortunately, that reaction is always a reduction in power, which turns driving the car with performance intent into a guessing game: am I getting full power today, or did the computer decide otherwise? This effect is reduced if you have access to track mode, even then I can personally attest it’s still very much baked into the core of the platform; summer or winter. As for the other issues, they exist but may not be immediately obvious if you don’t live where snow tires are mandatory. And don’t get me wrong, the Model 3 is a perfectly good beater: cheap (as long as you didn’t buy new), reliable, comfortable, and easy to live with. It’s just rubbish in the winter, which rather defeats the point of a beater in my town.

Important_Ad_3602 2026-01-12 15:42

Rapppps 2026-01-12 16:58

Only missing the hatchback trunk door.

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 18:34

Ok. Comfort debatable. Folks rave about the M3P seats, as do the YP. Cool cool. Cargo is the only real compromise. And in much of the world (def here in US), they’re all 5-seaters. Driver enjoyment/engagement, etc. 3 wins. You know this is a 3 sub, right? Go play with all your shoes.

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 19:56

It excels, yes, but compared to the M3, it’s one thing: cargo. Congrats! Enjoy your cool EV minivan! I’ve been to four continents this year btw. We smart travelers pack light. Easily gets all four of us and luggage to airport. Have a great week!

operator401 2026-01-12 20:06

nagelk87 2026-01-12 21:02

Compared to the MY, the M3 excels at one thing: track. Everything else can be done by the MY, plus more. In fact, the MS does the one thing better that the M3 beats the MY in, so the M3 is probably the third best all around car Tesla makes. The M3 is a great car, and yet you continue to call the MY a minivan. I'd be pretty embarrassed to own a car that barely beats a minivan in a race. You've resorted to insulting my hobbies and have now made this about yourself flexing about continents, because you know your argument is paper thin.

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-12 21:07

*cool EV minivan. Jeeebus, take your backhanded complement and go play outside or something. Didn’t insult your hobbies. Suggested you maybe enjoy them and stop promoting a Y on a 3 sub. S is not track superior, literally laughable. M3P obliterates it up Pike’s Peak (can personally confirm) and nearly all other tracks. The S is a pig on the track. None are “track cars” anyway… but Y drives like shit if you enjoy a sporty feel. Sorry, it just does. Again, have a great week. Go sniff grass. Swap some shoes out. Wash your Y and fill it with cargo. I’m done here. 🙌🏻

nagelk87 2026-01-12 21:10

Just because you decide I'm dismissed doesn't mean your argument holds up any better lmao. I can guarantee you didn't take the family of 4 on an international flight to the airport in your M3. It's just not the right car for the job, but the MY would be.

SolutionCapital6742 2026-01-12 21:30

Junkbondman69 2026-01-12 22:30

Why the smaller wheels? Isn’t bigger rims better? Is it faster? How much weight does it drop? Better yet how much time does it shave on 0-60/ quarter mile?

regalbeagles1 2026-01-12 22:48

It’s the best all rounder for 90% of the population who drive on a daily basis…except for the dumb 20” wheels that would be better as 18’s.

Thought the same thing with mine until i got an S plaid. Took everything i loved and upped it to 11.

Kilo_Juliett 2026-01-13 17:21

Same for me. The wheels were the dealbreaker. I didn't want to pay even more after I bought the car to change the wheels and tires. If I didn't I would have for sure broken the rims by now. I've hit so many gnarly pot holes in my Model 3 since I got it. Next car will be a performance for sure, or whatever hot model 3 is available at the time (plaid maybe...). That's still 6 years or more away.

MY LR is best all-around. M3 isn’t even an all-around. Geesh 🤷🏻‍♂️

Best_Statistician575 2026-01-14 04:41

No idea why this guy is in an M3 sub defending the Y like his life depends on it. I went with the 3 because the Y handles like a boat well before you ever hit the track. Also, this is coming from someone who's owned SUVs for nearly a decade. It's no surprise the Y outsells the 3, because the "you NEED an SUV" lie has been rammed down the throats of NA consumers for so long now, it's all they know. In my 8+ years of SUV ownership, I can count on my hand the number of times I've actually needed the space, and what's with all this BS about carrying people? Sedans were carrying families long before automakers had the idea of putting seats in a covered truck bed. The Y may be more practical on paper, but the 3 is a better vehicle in pretty much every way.

That seems like a personal issue why do you identify as tuna?

Silvoan 2026-01-14 17:34

I don't have hard numbers for you, but generally the only advantage to larger wheels is handling performance. Nearly everything else (ride quality, acceleration, tire cost, resistance to potholes) is better

CoconutNext775 2026-01-14 18:26

Compare to other vehicles I have and had, I feel like I’m in a tuna can every time I’m in. I have G13 7 series. I feel like I’m in a car, not in a tuna can. Even in my 3rd gen Tacoma. Truck rides much better than M3. But non of them drives me garage parking to garage parking. Imma try MS hope they put Solid State Battery by then. I don’t have charger in my garage. That’s PIA. I don’t know what you’re standard is but for me, it’s in My Butt Hurts category over 1 hour ride

I own both a y performance and a x plaid. Both are HW4s. However, driving a 26' model Y AWD is the best all round car I can think of. I find myself much more calm and happy when I drive my gf's 26' Y long range.

MMK___ 2026-01-14 20:39

Yes, except it's not in my price range.

MhVRNewbie 2026-01-14 20:42

To little storage.

lnxgod 2026-01-15 00:37

Sorry friend, but I would say a LONG RANGE is better because the wheels. I've owned 9 teslas at this point and all of my BIGWHEEL cars have broken so many rims :\\ Model S Luda Broke 5 wheels in 2 years Model 3 perf Broke 2 wheels in 2 years Model S Plaid 19s 0 wheels

HapiHapii 2026-01-15 07:20

Hell yeah, got myself a late 2019 M3P as well and it's lots of fun after all these years still, but I wish the boot space had better access indeed

Machineslave240 2026-01-15 20:50

I drove a C6 Grand Sport Corvette for 11 years before getting my 2025 M3P and the Tesla is just better. I got the Ultra Red white seats and I couldn’t be happier. So no argument from me on this

SchlongCopter69 2026-01-18 21:54

Amen!!! I had a GX460 and 500hp track IS-F… M3P best of both worlds and then some! For sure, Y is an absolute boat… even the performance. Why they didn’t include semi-active suspension is beyond me. Hidden hitch and trailer get me anything I’d ever need from a Y. Beyond that, I’d prolly go for a R2 or wait until Elon makes something else I like better for fam-hauling. X doesn’t do it for me either.

Interesting_Library5 2026-02-24 21:32

Oh I completely agree. It also happens to be 1 of only 2 real models tesla make anymore. The other being the Y. Not exactly a bunch to choose from at Tesla
