You should be able to find something relatively new with that budget. You might even get lucky and find one with FSD included. Late 2023+ Model 3 or Y would be great. If you do get something that doesn't already have FSD included, plan on paying $8000 up front or $99 per month for the subscription.

You will want to go with a new Model 3 or Model Y as they both have the latest HW4 For the Model 3, that would be a 2024 or newer. If that is too high for your budget, go with a 2023, and that will give you HW3

There is a downward pressure to the used pre highland M3 Teslas: 1. The 2023 was the last model year for the pre highland and Tesla was pushing a lot of cheap leases with tax credit applied as down payment. 2. There also was a clause forbidding lease buyout, as Tesla claimed to reuse lease returns for Robotaxi. As we know the Robotaxi is not the case, but lease returns are pouring in and have to be dealt with. I'm guessing the 2026 will be the last year with this significant spill of the used from Tesla until the 3 year leases get exhausted. Right now 2023s with around 35-40k miles can be had for $21-23k. Buying from Tesla adds 1 year and 10k miles for car warranty. FSD is $8k outright or $99 per month. FSD is not a driver substitute. HW3 is pretty good and supposed to be improved with v14 light.

Where do you find those kinds of deals on 2023’s? I’d love to get a used Y LR but looking for a deal and trying to avoid CL and FB, wishing to find someone returning a lease or selling and they are getting hit hard on the used market and I can pay a little more and both sides are happy.

I'm looking for something for my boss for similar reasons (he's old and doesn't like driving anymore). From what I've been reading, you want Hardware Version 4 (HW4). Although it's not a perfect way, make sure that the rear trunk says 'Tesla' instead of 'T'. There are some aftermarket logos that you can buy to replace the 'T' but they're not going to be all that common, I would think. You should be safe with anything 2024 and later. Also, I would recommend going to a Tesla center with her and getting a test drive using FSD. You may decide not to do this: not being familiar with driving means that she won't be able to anticipate when she needs to be paying attention and then she won't know what to do when she does need to take over. My boss knows how to drive already.
