How is it worth every penny? Youve "saved" $52? With the added insurance and gas tax I have to pay when registering this would actually cost more for me.
Slightly cheaper than here in Ireland! Good/quick stuff!
Would have cost me $197 charging at home, that’s savings. Superchargers are expensive
Even without more expensive insurance and the extra registration cost for being an EV, it’s only $52 less than premium gas. Is this really worth someone’s time to sit at a supercharger that often? I don’t see how this is worth it in any way unless you just enjoy the car that much.
3k miles in a month? Jesus.
I agree, nothing wrong with owning one though if you enjoy it. In all reality thats a factor as to why I have one on top of the short term savings. I have reservations whether or not im actually saving money with mine though in the long run due to a factor of reasons. Especially because I work on all my vehicles myself.
Mine for the time I have had my MY. Charging at home. https://preview.redd.it/81w24oaeykcg1.jpeg?width=1320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9c57d54e06a6434e372d17255ef29aa0716b5ea
God bless that battery pack
Why would you WANT to only use SC’s? I would not get an EV if I was forced to use public charging.
An EV without home charging is a puzzling decision.
How can I ensure that my home address on the app is taken into account for top-ups?
You live in an apartment but want FSD.
https://preview.redd.it/l1ku25bcclcg1.jpeg?width=931&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4e5b8ac1ccf2bad0b0c720b5f5e6275d94657d9 I rarely ever use SC and always charge for free at work lol
Dang, I guess I’m just blessed with cheap electricity, I pay $0.07 kwh so for me this would’ve been $99
Honestly SC is so satisfying and fun 😂 call me a sicko but in some ways that type of life seems fun
Although I’m happy you are enjoying it- I will tell you that it seems a bit high to spend on charging alone. I couldn’t own my M3 and not have a charger at home like I do now. Glad you are having fun, keep it going!
That's how you do it!
The gas equivalent is definitely not premium gas in the app. It’s actually too low for me in my area
$50 for me!
Sheesh
The Facebook office I used to work at had free EV valet. I would drop off my car at the front door and they would charge it up then park it for me till I texted them to bring it out front. Tipping was not allowed.
I’m charging at home (using a Lectron level 2 charger, not a Tesla one) and paying roughly the equivalent of $1 a gallon of gas. And it’s so convenient.
Time is money. No way I'd ever buy this car without home charging. Especially if I drove that much.
There was charging away from home as well, but just being plugged in overnight and whenever I’m not out the cost was very nice.
It’s my first month having the car so I’ve been going a little crazy driving it. Another thing is that I use my personal vehicle for work and get the 0.70 per mile federal minimum for all that mileage which lessens the blow significantly.
0.07$/kWh?!? I pay 0.30€/kWh here in Germany.
this is winter of course. spring summer fall their is a wayyyyy bigger difference
Because I love the car, by my own math I'm basically driving around a 20mpg car lol, I was considering buying a prius and it would be about a 3rd of the fuel cost.
Not really a want as much as the only way I have to charge it being that I live in an apartment.
I'm a night owl anyways, instead of sitting at my desk I bring my laptop/ use my phone. Otherwise I bring my girlfriend for an episode of something together, I find it relaxing.
Might actually save me money to just buy a house to use as a glorified power brick xD.
Dude a little crazy is different than 3k miles in a month. And you saved what, one tank of gas? Cmon brother be real with yourself.
Should do it automatically I think, assuming you have home set on your driver profile.
Yeah when it isn't sub freezing temperatures my long range battery goes way farther.
I didn't save shit money wise, gas by me is like $2.20 so I'm paying way more than a gas car. There's a road trip on this mileage as well I'm not planning on driving this much every month.
It’s good you enjoy - but really it’s a complete waste after factoring in charging times and gas costs , not to mention the “premium” insurance bracket
As a young adult male with one accident on the record, I would probably be paying within $50\~ of my current insurance on any semi new regular vehicle.
You’ll never know until you find out 😉 Tesla without home charging is utter waste of time, sorry to be blunt

In my e60 that gets 20mpg id currently pay 360 in gas. How much do super chargers charge per kw?
I always try to charge after 10pm so I'm usually paying $0.28 / kwh
For my own situation I'm almost always charging at the end of the day, and I live about 1 mile away from my closet supercharger. I guess it doesn't feel like time wasted to me since I'm not really doing anything besides chilling on my computer around that time.
😆. I saving on gas and mortgage. Was prepared to buy prior to property value increasing 100%. So not pay some crazy monthly mortgage. Insurance is pretty much the same as without an EV so no issues for me at least.
Just be careful of freezing temps - takes a while for sc To start charging
Yeah and the Gas price is wrong. 3k miles on my wife's car at 24MPG and $2.80 a gallon would have been $350 Gas in Wisconsin is a little cheaper BTW. On a Prius $170 in gas. BTW my home charging on 1407 would have come to $340 (Electric is expensive here.)
Where can I find this view of the application? I lost it two or three updates ago!
Charging tab -> Charge stats
No… it disappeared from the French version of the app…
Perhaps because I unchecked the box for sharing data with Tesla regarding charging information in my car?
How is everyone see better total charge vs gas equivalent? Here are my stats…. https://imgur.com/a/JbnqHii
Maybe, I have all of those set to allowed.
Electricity is pricey by you !!
That’s about how much I paid to charge at home all last year. I drove 20k miles
https://preview.redd.it/43d1zqmauocg1.jpeg?width=1320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=78d18341441a87a6d671526f74fb89c6c581158f
Why would you WANT to only go to gas stations when owning an ICE vehicle? I would NOT get an ICE if I was forced to use public gas stations.
Supercharging is basically the same cost wise compared to a gas car but charging at home is where you save the Bigger $$
a few questions 1. how many miles do you drive a day 2. how much is a kWh at a supercharger for example, in a comparative ICE sedan full tank in a sedan (we'll call it 10 gallons) is roughly 22 dollars, and will assume you get about 350 miles... https://preview.redd.it/01ycscfqzrcg1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=63a6bba71dc03aa0f6a7f7e7a35ebf4e48c0cc3f need more data points even with the photo you have it says you only saved 52 dollars.here's mine for comparison
https://preview.redd.it/7v1v54e90scg1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fb883570f4078170a15335702d130ad2fa6e522c Wow! you have really good data, you charge wherever and whenever you need. vs someone like me being a cheapass and looking for the cheapest place to charge LOL.
Glad you still find it worth it. I found myself pretty much still paying near gas prices when traveling and supercharging and it makes it far less desirable. My normal Charging at home in north Colorado is like 1/4 the cost and absolutely worth it
Exactly!
1,954 kWh for an entire year, that’s gotta be some low yearly milage.
i dont drive much lol its just get to work and home and get groceries. if i travel its usually to other countries so no road trips
What was your cost per kwh?
https://preview.redd.it/i103uag45ucg1.jpeg?width=1320&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7df064667b542914dfe6f9407cb3fef9d99f011 Same!!! Work location is super convenient.
Let me make it easier for you to understand. Charging at home costs $0.47/kWh, charging at work is free. I charge around twice a week during my normal work shift when not using the car.
Same. Did my annual “work” on my M3P just tn: filled the washer fluid, BOOM! All to say, I hope you value your time.
https://preview.redd.it/xe9li3i13vcg1.jpeg?width=1206&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b3f8fcdddcdce44145f76b040901a0ed236a35a Here’s mine after almost 2 weeks. I have a home charger but also have free lifetime super charging. Should be fun with the road trips I plan on taking later this year.
About 30 cents on average.
I knew a kid who worked for Facebook/Meta that just maintained their on-campus bikes and did free repairs/valet for employee bikes. They had some crazy perks there to maintain their work culture.
Oh yeah. I loved the bike shop too. I rode to work on nice days. I mostly did my own bike maintenance, but I used them for some free pads once. You could also ship them a bike and they would put it together for you.
Well for me, all of those others are free. All supercharging until March was free. Home is 33c and work is completely free. 120v 😪
Sub freeze, my lr battery drops to half is range. What are you talking about? C those of us in ND, MN can attest to this.
The only long range battery’s that should be losing half their range is the pre 2020 no heat pipe ones.
You're so bad at this lol
buying a Tesla to only supercharge is such a bad idea
Sigh, we use to charge for free at work, till a karen complained that 2 of the handicap charging stations were being taken by non-handicap individuals...She isn't handicap nor is our small office open to the pubic.... so management decided to turn all 6 stations off till further notice, that was 2 years ago..
2023 MYLR. This is consistent with people who live in sub zero winters. It gets up to 50% loss
Which skillset do I need to work on to pull a home charger out of my ass? Lmao
Whichever one leads to homeownership
