Not sure why he didn't use the penthouse terminals under rear seats. There's bolts that you slap a ring terminal on and run the wire right back to the trunk.

Sweet setup! I’ve been running my JL Audio JD500/1 for 2 years now. No issues. I did try running a more powerful NVX NDA1200/1 which caused problems so I went back to the JL. If u wana run bigger powers the relays and stuff r a must. Seems around 500w RMS doesn’t freak the system out.

I have heard of that. But I have a 100W sub hooked up there and I haven't had any lights. Might be that I'm drawing way less amps.
Dorkrain
2026-01-09 06:40
I didn't know you needed to draw positive and negative from the left side controller and right side controller. But it makes sense since your putting in two speakers. Also do you have an overview where exacly into the plug the positive and negative go?
Btw I want to install a single sub in the trunk right hand side in my Sr plus. Any tips or videos for that?

Low power amps work fine at the penthouse. I don't know where the upper threshold is, or if it's been tested, but there are ways to do it. I've had a 150w amp on it for 2 years, no problem. I'll be upgrading to a 500w+ amp next week, still from the penthouse in my 2023. I've got the workaround parts already in case it doesn't like it.

The battery in the frunk doesn’t get charged at high capacity, I run a 5kw system and you can’t run anything like that from the frunk, only low powered systems

As an alternative to anyone who is keen on a sub but wants to keep it as OEM as possible - many people, including myself, have installed the Tesla sub from the LR/P in the stock location - nice and hidden. Unfortunately it requires an aftermarket amp, but that can fit in the hidden area too.

I then used 8 gauge amp wiring kit, get one that has a good insulated fuse holder so water doesnt get in it from the crappy frunk design. Then all you need is a nice sub box for the Tesla. I used the skar stealth sub came with the sub. Or you can just get the box and add your own shallow sub to it.

Well what do you expect? A professional installer that couldn’t get the amp working at the penthouse?
So you rig it to the battery in the front, that battery only gets a small charge from the penthouse, it’s not enough to run a decent amplifier.
Where did you get the trigger from?
rpkusuma
2026-01-10 02:30

Because you wrote in your first post that you work for Amazon and I don’t think they do audio installs, no professional installer would fit an amp to the battery because the feed to the battery is so small, it will 11v and damage the battery and other components if you run too much power, you only have to look at the wires running to it to know that
davemenkehorst
2026-01-10 19:21
So what about lowpass and highness filters? And do you connect the amp to a sub out? (post volume?) Do you need to blend in the subwoofer with that bas knob?

It’s because you didn’t have a resistor and relay setup most likely. I’ve been running 1500w off mine with over a year now with no issues. I even plan on potentially upgrading to 3000w potentially, which would require getting a second battery

I plan to but I haven’t yet unfortunately. I had to get rid of my wing I had on my car and a trunk because it genuinely sounded so horrible. It sounds way better now, but from the outside you can definitely hear the rattles. I’m going to do it very soon. How do you like the Alpine Kit? I have a 23 sr. We do this. Maybe your amp is pulling massive power when it hits hard. I have heard people put 1000w to the penthouse. Tesla motor club (forum)has a lot of info that might help with your future mods. I am on there and I have learned a lot about my car.

I don’t believe there are outputs. He’s likely grabbing the sound from the rear speakers.
I’ve always imagined using an lc2i audio converter off the rear speakers would work fine. I believe those have filters for adjustment on them.
I think what he is highlighting here mostly is how on newer models it’s required to pull power from battery up in the front of the vehicle instead of under the rear seat.
This way you avoid error codes.
On older 3’s with 12v you could pull power off the rear up to a certain point without tripping anything and without adding relays or getting too crazy.
Yes the bass knob is gonna be needed to adjust to a certain degree but the lc2i would supply volume so it wouldn’t be like you’re always adjusting the sub. Just when switching genres maybe

Sorry for the late reply, the alpine kit it's self is nice that it's pretty straightforward to install but definitely a tight fit, the speaker in my opinion sounds pretty good, has plenty of power considering it's being driven by a pretty small amp. The only think I don't like about it is it's got no adjustments outside your eq settings which I find makes it difficult to dial in cause I like bass punch but I don't need to have the public hear it too. Outside of zero adjustment I think it's a pretty good if you just want the sub but if you plan to expand beyond that it will leave something to be desired.
TheLightKyanite
2026-01-21 11:11
Interesting, that’s cool. So the alpine speakers get louder? I have to blast my volume up sometimes because my subwoofers can overpower it sometimes, but I’ve done a lot of tuning to fix that
metroidhacker
2026-01-21 18:13
Yea I barely have it turned up in the dash I think only +1 on the sub and that's down from 5-6 which is still way louder then stock but that's mostly for the resonating I am getting that I need to fix at some point in the future

No worries. Just a warning, you know the top black plastic piece at the entrance of the trunk? I had to take that off to get this box to fit. I’d say the max height is probably like 15 for a box but that’s pushing it
