They will attempt the repair for about $60 if i remember correctly. I paid $1600 for my windshield two weeks ago

hoppeeness 2026-01-07 19:18

Ok…thanks for letting me know.

OldFargoan 2026-01-07 19:19

Apprehensive_Put6261 2026-01-07 19:22

Is this with the protection plan or anyone? I bought this used so I didnt qualify or pass the inspection to get the window plan Tesla offers.

Sweet_Yellow_8646 2026-01-07 19:22

Get it filled asap! Like right now.

rcuadro 2026-01-07 19:23

Without. If you wanted the windshield protection all you need to do is set up an inspection. Now that you have chips it won't qualify.

Apprehensive_Put6261 2026-01-07 19:24

How do I go about doing that? Again, sorry new to Tesla fam.

Sweet_Yellow_8646 2026-01-07 19:25

Any auto glass shop can do this. Or you can diy for $20

rcuadro 2026-01-07 19:26

It is just a windshield man. Tesla doesn't use anything special. Can go to any local windshield repair shop. Or call SafeLite

chabhoi 2026-01-07 19:29

Safelite, my experience has been my insurance pays the full amount to Safelite for filling. Always a chance they won't be able to, and the windshield needs to be replaced. I've never experienced that.

PraiseTalos66012 2026-01-07 19:29

Get a glass repair kit on Amazon. Basically just a resin that fills it in. If you do it properly you'll barely be able to see it. Costs like $20. Or have a shop do it. But whatever you do you need to do it immediately before the crack spread bc it will spread. Like next day Amazon or go to a shop today.

Dumbbydefault 2026-01-07 19:29

Insurance paid mine at $1200. Just took them 7 hours and the calls to California to calibrate everything after.

rcuadro 2026-01-07 19:30

I was in and out in about 4 hours.

CR8VJUC 2026-01-07 19:31

Yep we had a little star that turned into a giant crack once we parked the car in the sun. Do it ASAP. ![gif](giphy|gL3bg3iXMTXWzFgEnN)

fujimonster 2026-01-07 19:41

Also call your car insurance sometimes they will pay for it to be filled by safelite for free or a small charge. See if you have glass coverage. It costs nothing to ask.

AdventurousAd9993 2026-01-07 19:47

Welcome to the club, don't bother replacing it since you'll get a new crack in your replacement a few days after.  Tesla windshields are made of wet tissue paper. (Or it's just the design/angle of it)  Thankfully windshield replacements are free/covered by insurance in Florida. Been through 4 in 40,000 miles.

Glum_Perception_1077 2026-01-07 19:57

Find a windshield place and get a repair, the windshield is very fragile on Teslas apparently, my chip turned into a Crack in a week or so

mrandr01d 2026-01-07 20:14

There's nothing special about this for Tesla, it's the same as all other auto glass. Can just get it filled with resin to prevent it from spreading. It's chipped, not cracked. You probably have a local shop that'll do it for like 50 bucks or so.

adorablefuzzykitten 2026-01-07 20:35

Order on line or just drive to any automotive shop but speed is important. Crack propagation can happen at any time. Thermal cycling could make these grow to cover the entire windshield at any time. Once the small cracks are filled with the polymer the windshield will be safe. These polymers are designed to match the defraction coefficient of windshield, so they will be invisible. I fixed mine on a road trip to Texas 1000 miles from home. Took 10 minutes effort and some wait time for cure to take place.

sm753 2026-01-07 21:06

A windshield is a windshield whether it's a Tesla or some Eastern European car made out of old Soviet tank parts. Get a repair kit and fill in the chip before the crack spreads. As others have said - you'll want to do this ASAP, thermal expansion and contraction will cause the chip to spread out into cracks.

HappyYouniverse 2026-01-07 21:08

I just had to replace my windshield a couple months ago. Thankfully insurance covered my through Safelite. That crack can spread in a matter of hours so don’t delay trying to fix it yourself or it will get too large for repair and you will have to replace it.

Vel_Played 2026-01-07 21:13

Same frand…same

joeblow133 2026-01-07 21:17

Some insurance companies cover the cost of getting it filled. It can quickly turn into a large crack so better to fill it sooner than later

billyoceans 2026-01-07 21:20

LOL, I bought my '23 model 3 used last January and its currently on its 3rd windshield. rock bounced off the windshield in May, insurance paid to replace it, rock bounced off it again in August, but luckily just a chip that safelite should be able to fill in.

mxmbulat 2026-01-07 22:21

I feel your pain. I had two windshield replacements in 2023 and now my deductible is 1000 CAD back from 250 CAD initially.

bobjamesya 2026-01-07 22:32

New to owning a car?

sjsharks323 2026-01-08 00:10

Here you go. Easy to do yourself with a kit you can buy in the description. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muOHr3bSIoY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muOHr3bSIoY)

NBKLee 2026-01-08 00:13

In my 45 years on this planet, owned several cars, but my 24 LR AWD has the worst windshield and paint of anything I’ve seen or driven. Still love the car, but yea that’s going to happen.

AgentAaron 2026-01-08 00:22

I currently have service scheduled at the service center in Charlotte $1530 for a new windshield 💀. I told my wife and daughter both to schedule a free inspection to add the windshield protection ASAP.

rcuadro 2026-01-08 00:23

I did the same lol

AgentAaron 2026-01-08 00:26

It's far less expensive than having a claim on my insurance with 3 teslas and two other cars.

Rubix321 2026-01-08 00:29

Many auto insurance companies will cover filling chips for free, because it's cheaper for them if it works. Dunno if this one would work, but definitely check with your insurance

Apprehensive_Put6261 2026-01-08 00:51

wow ur the MVP, thanks this was great!

FranticChill 2026-01-08 04:08

They seem to use some cheap glass. I've had two chips in two years, from strikes by fairly small rocks. I've only gotten two or three chips in several decades of driving before.

Ecce-pecke 2026-01-08 06:52

Sounds like you are new to the car fam. This is not a Tesla question really 😵‍💫

tomrossi7 2026-01-08 12:24

I finally broke down and bought the Tesla windshield insurance. I’ve had three separate cracks in the last 6 months!

SpikeyTwitch20 2026-01-08 14:15

In Europe, your insurance will repair the screen for free as it’s cheaper than the new glass cost. Not sure of yours does the same but it’s worth a call. As for it being a Tesla, it doesn’t matter. All windscreens are the same. It only matters if the damage is over the camera. Then it’s new screen time.

Apprehensive_Put6261 2026-01-08 16:05

u just couldnt resist right

Fiveofthem 2026-01-08 16:36

You don’t have car insurance? You have a $1,200 deductible?

Fiveofthem 2026-01-08 16:37

Nobody has car insurance any more?

rcuadro 2026-01-08 17:57

I do. My deductible is $1000 and it is not worth it to me to make a claim for only $600.

Fiveofthem 2026-01-08 17:59

I don’t think a rock chip will raise your insurance. Mine doesn’t maybe yours does. 🤷‍♂️

Key-Explorer-9592 2026-01-08 21:25

$1000?!?!?! Jesus

Key-Explorer-9592 2026-01-08 21:26

My m3 windshield cracked. I got it replaced for $250 since that was my deductible. They tried the resin but crack was still there.

mcbergstedt 2026-01-09 02:57

Safelite will come out to you and repair it. There’s probably other companies that will do it for cheaper but my insurance uses safelite for the couple times I’ve had cracks and chips.

postiverate1 2026-01-09 14:37

Had almost the same crack on my windshield a couple of months ago. I just set up a service through the Tesla app, got an appointment 4 days out, and filled it in for about 110 usd.

Minigoalqueen 2026-01-10 02:25

$1000 isn't that uncommon, honestly. I actually chose a $2000 deductible instead of $1000. I owned my last car for 25 years and never had a claim. Going with the higher deductible saved me about $50 per month on premiums. $1000 difference/$50 savings=20. So as long as I have a claim less often than every 20 months, I've come out ahead financially. I've owned the car for 29 months now with no claims, so it was the right choice. As long as you have the savings to come up with the deductible if needed, a higher deductible is often the smarter choice. I don't even bother with deductibles lower than $1000. The premiums are just too high.

Minigoalqueen 2026-01-10 02:31

People keep saying that, but I've had the opposite so far. Owned for a bit over 2 years. I've had 2 rocks hit my windshield. Both times, I heard the hit and thought "That's a windshield repair". And both times, it just left a permanent white mark on the windshield, but no chip at all. I'm surprised how tough mine is.

hitthatclutch20 2026-01-10 04:38

I hope u purchased the windshield protection plan. They covered my cracked windshield 100%

toungepuncher6000 2026-01-10 19:43

See if your auto insurance offers free windshield repairs. Geico does and its easy. Just book a same day appointment through the app. Free repair at an auto glass shop.

Hot-Accountant-4425 2026-01-11 04:03

Sorry man … that sucks. This definitely scared me purchasing my 2025 M3P three months ago. Needless to say, I went with their windshield protection program. I figured it’d be worth it for the price of what these windshield cost, especially living in Las Vegas with all the rocks flying around.

Weezthajuice 2026-01-11 16:01

$16 a month windshield replacement insurance thru Tesla

ConstructionLanky588 2026-01-12 15:01

My m3p literally chipped on the way home from the dealer and then spread the next day when using max defrost after a foot of snow dumped. Hahah 1500 dollar cost without insurance. Will definitely be paying that deductible…. Sometime

Leyvaman-MX 2026-01-13 00:59

Sorry to say, had a similar (yet single) crack on my ‘23 Y- had Safelite come out within a couple of days (free through insurance), and they did their thing (filled it in). It was early Summer, and a few days later, parked out in our 5,000ft altitude Sun ☀️…it cracked all across to the edge…total loss😑. Good luck 👍

mushyspider 2026-01-13 23:30

I keep a resin kit (rain dance brand) in my car at all times. It can help prevent a crack if done right away. I’m still on my 5th windshield though.
