Bit the bullet and went for a new M3P. Question about paint and wrap.

TheTreecko | 2026-01-06 22:40 | 51 views

I'm in Austria and unsure if I should leave it white as is and wrap it in a nice dark green (not exactly sure which green yet), OR modify the order and go for Quicksilver (and either wrap it later or leave it as is). It's a lease, so I imagine wrapping it would be nice to protect the original paint as well.

You’re wrapping white with dark green? That’s asking for trouble with wrap chips that’ll stick out. Wrapping a lease is crazy waste of money, I don’t think they let you wrap it either I could be wrong.

I would never wrap a lease

Paying extra for any color on a lease - stock or wrap - is an insane waste of money to me. But you do you, quicksilver is nice.

I wrapped my white M3P in clear PPF but with a matte look - so no colour change, but it looks different. Subtle.

I’m planning to on my order but that’s because I’m planning to buy at the end of the lease (lease through company so works out financially). But outside of that situation I agree, just a waste of money.

They let you do whatever you want to it and don’t care until you return it. They’ll charge you for all the fixes after

💯

If you lease it through a company then that company can buy out the lease. Unless you’re the owner of the company double check what you’re signing up for. Updated to include this statement: Also make sure you/the company is not based out of Iowa or Louisiana

I’m in the UK. Here we can lease through the company we are employed by on a salary sacrifice basis with power to buy the car from the lease provider at any time during or at the end of the lease.

I didn’t wrap my lease and 3 years later everything was fine.

After seeing the comments here and talking with some friends, I decided to change the paint to Quicksilver and leave it as is. As for personalization, probably 1-2 stickers on the rear glass and call it a day. :P

Salary sacrifice… so you’re just leasing the car, why is your company a middle-man?

Desperate-Review-727 2026-01-07 02:01

You can always wrap it later if you decide to buy it. But yeah spending 5-7k on a wrap to avoid 200-500$ worth of potential rock chips doesn't seem like the best trade off. But if the wrap is strictly for looks then, fk it! yolo

Fiscal advantage

my10ro_NO_F1 2026-01-07 03:05

That is an interesting system I have not heard of before. Is that because the car is relevant to your job, or is that a standard thing?

amoeba1126 2026-01-07 03:16

Unless you plan on buying out the lease, the only thing I would recommend ever doing would be tinting the windows

Present-Ad-9598 2026-01-07 03:46

Like tax breaks?

SnooTomatoes6354 2026-01-07 03:54

Don’t know how things in UK are but in most EU countries labour is taxed about 40-50%. A lease is deductible (though capped to some extent) so you could come to an arrangement with the compant to lower your gross salary for the amount of the lease. At the end of the lease you can also have an agreement to buy the car from the lease company (most employers do that).  It’s one way to pay lower income taxes.

Present-Ad-9598 2026-01-07 03:59

Oh interesting. Tax deductions in the US are pretty specific, mostly if you’re self-employed or running a business, however for 2025 because of the “OBBB” we get tax deductions on overtime and tipped income, so I should be getting a tax return next month of around $4000

bizzys92 2026-01-07 07:35

Right, Tesla do it themselves in the UK. They use Lex Autolease.

TheTreecko 2026-01-07 07:37

Would be for looks mainly, yeah!

dinnae-fash 2026-01-07 07:51

It’s not related to what my job entails. If a car is vital to the job it would be a company vehicle instead. The lease in question is facilitated through the company and includes everything - maintenance, insurance etc and the cost of the lease is deducted pre-tax, so it reduces the taxable amount you earn. EVs only pick up a couple percent tax this way and it significantly reduces the effective amount you pay when you take into account saved tax etc.

Wrap does not protect paint. Paint protection film protects paint (and even then it has limits)

I’d defo tint the rear glass and at least the passenger windows. Makes a massive difference especially on the performance I’ve got a M3P on lease through my business Had it for 4 years and actually just ordered another one last week 😁👌

psvase 2026-01-07 18:25

Some leasing companies require you to remove all the modifications (including wraps) upon returning the car. I would recommend to check out the contract first before deciding whether to go with the wrap or not.

Farbfolie hilft nicht gegen Steinschläge. Müsstest darüber noch eine Lackschutzfolie folieren lassen.

TheTreecko 2026-01-08 15:52

Nee, ich lass das mal vorerst.... sollte ich den wagen kaufen nachm lease dann vielleicht. Werd höchstens die Spiegelkappen folieren wenn überhaupt.

DieSackgasse 2026-01-08 15:54

dann hat er eh schon genug Steinschläge. Dann kannst es komplett lassen 😅

I almost did the same thing. Just be mindful of the lease and don't over invest.
