I bet it feels like there’s nothing even there

icwbandit 2026-01-03 05:03

Only about a thousand and a bit pounds. I can’t tell it’s there, it still accelerates nicely but you shouldn’t do that part lol. The only part is if you’re quick enough at reversing the trailer it thinks you’re gonna hit the car it thinks is behind you and activate the emergency brakes.

Realityvoidx 2026-01-03 06:01

I put 1700 lbs of bagged river rocks in mine, I could feel it being weighed down but it was a breeze to drive, no damage on the 30ish mile trip

Sfkn123 2026-01-03 07:03

Huh. Can the 2026 tow? I was thinking I need to get a truck to tow my other car to the tracks - didn't see a tow kit for the 2026 of M3P.

I_am_Zed 2026-01-03 07:36

Nice. I did the same for a small boat.

Worried_Produce_1046 2026-01-03 12:00

I have a tow hitch, lol... wish I didn't 🤣

zancxkr 2026-01-03 13:22

Is the M3P been type approved for a tow bar? I thought it wasn't. I think insurance companies would use that fact to deny any claims.

icwbandit 2026-01-03 13:31

It’s mostly irrelevant, from what I can tell. Only if the modification itself is illegal, unsafe, or improperly installed. And it wouldn’t affect insurance if anything happened to any other part. The car isn’t rated for towing, but the tow bar is. I also have insurance on the trailer and ski, so I’m doubly covered on the road. I might be found at fault if the crash was caused by towing dynamics and I was the one who crashed… but if I’m hit it’s irrelevant because it wouldn’t have contributed to the accident.

I don't have a hitch on my M3 but my EV6 tows everything I throw at it. Electric towing is so nice, except for the range. MY range gets destroyed pulling my camper.

Byrd390 2026-01-03 14:39

Can you elaborate on why you wish you did not have a tow hitch?

Worried_Produce_1046 2026-01-03 14:41

Takes away from look of my car, if it was a hidden one no big deal, but whoever previously owned my 22 m3lr put and old school type hitch on it

icwbandit 2026-01-03 17:13

The torklift Ecohitch stealth hitches don’t stick out of the back, which is a great bonus. It’s still a receiver there but I don’t mind the look of it. it’s only 1.25 inches

Worried_Produce_1046 2026-01-03 17:14

Yeha, I think it looks hideous... 🤣... if it were an easy uninstall, id do it

icwbandit 2026-01-03 17:16

Yes, usually these tow kits replace the mounting plates for the rear crash bar. If you really really hated it, you could take the bumper off and then saw off the part of the tow bar which goes down to the hitch receiver but that’s a fair bit of work and the clips for the bumper are finicky and cheap and the plastic where those two clips are bends easily

Worried_Produce_1046 2026-01-03 17:18

Yeha, I seen a couple youtube videos on people that removed them... to me, its not worth the effort 🤣

Strong_Batman 2026-01-03 21:23

FYI you're only supposed to tow 500lbs on the M3P. Regular M3 is what's rated for 1000lbs

icwbandit 2026-01-03 21:30

I don’t see why it would be any different. It’s just dependent on the mounting area and that shouldn’t be any different between the trims. The official tow kit from Tesla (model 3 tow package) for some other years says 2200 pounds but it’s a 2 inch receiver. Maybe they redesigned the mounting area a little (although in other countries it’s available for this year model) but for this one the aftermarket tow bar manufacturer lists it at 2000 pounds. The problem with is being a performance is just the lower suspension and different rims, but with low tongue weight and a raiser there shouldn’t be any problems. I’m personally fine towing a jetski with it; but with everything where you’re operating outside of official specifications, you should be careful and reasonable.

Mind sharing deets? They weren’t ready to say all was supported on Highland when I was shopping 18mos ago. I forget the competition, but one other brand had a lot going for it as well. Did you compare them?

JakeAnwan 2026-01-04 07:39

Been wanting one to give my \~200 lbs ruckus a ride😆 don’t know if I should use a trailer or the single bike rack https://preview.redd.it/6nt9j9gkdabg1.jpeg?width=1504&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e7153e48d83cef29c441e330490474113603a2a

icwbandit 2026-01-04 10:09

Not sure about the highland but lookup etrailer.com or torkliftcentral.com to see the different ones

icwbandit 2026-01-04 10:31

If you have a 2 inch receiver use a motorcycle racks If you have a 1 1/4 receiver, I’d say try a cargo carrier like the 18110. Although, it is a fair bit of tongue weight. The 1 1/4 stealth hitch is good for 300 pounds of tongue weight at the ball, and the weight of the carrier and bike at the distance they are from the receiver would multiply it. Probably don’t recommend that.

icwbandit 2026-01-04 10:32

Also might be too long to fit on that cargo carrier

icwbandit 2026-01-04 11:24

It wouldn’t be any different for the M3P, but it is a lower car so don’t tow as much as you would with the normal one considering the rating

JorJorBinks123 2026-01-07 15:37

Probably tire load rating. Safety third my friend.

JorJorBinks123 2026-01-07 15:41

But stiffer springs and tighter shocks would handle the load better?

icwbandit 2026-01-07 17:51

No, stiff lowered suspensions struggle with extra weight. It messes with the handling. It’s fine to tow small loads like this but it does technically affect the handling and balance.
