Correction: FSD didn’t break the law, you did.

I’m currently on a road trip on HW3 12.6.4 and it’s done 99.9% of the drive nearly flawlessly. Over 800 miles so far.

Well you are 100% right but that ain't no excuse for me having to take control of the car 3 times in 20 minutes to prevent it from breaking the law. Like im pretty sure that doesn't qualify as full self driving if i got to take control of the car alot but maybe im worng.

Dam thats impressive. Must just be a skill issue or something on my part.

Self driving doesn’t mean it can follow the local driving laws. It just means it can drive on a road on its own. It’s only at L2 autonomy. This is essentially beta software that requires more training before it learns how to properly obey all traffic laws in your local region.

What setting were you on? Like hurry, ect?

I believe it was standard. I guess i could change it to chill mode and see if it makes a difference next time i drive and see if it is better. Ill try it out to see if it is any better but well see.

Your Tesla didn't break the law, it's a machine, that's not possible.
YOU broke the law, operating a machine that took those actions. You are liable for anything the machine does in FSD because you are the responsible operator.
These things aren't ready to use on public roads around involuntary beta testers (the rest of us), and I don't understand why some people are so eager to pay A LOT of money for the privilege of rolling the dice with their and other people's lives.

Well i guess that does make sense. Only one way to find out

Sounds like you broke the law 4 times and almost caused an accident since you are still responsible for the vehicle hahah

I just used FSD on a 900 mile road trip. Is it perfect? Hell no.
But you need to take over when its doing something like this. I only had about 2 disengaged instances. One it literally would have rear ended someone turning from a main street into a parking lot. They were dicking around and entering very slow.

HW3 has not had a FSD update since February. It is also looking like HW4 has hit a local maximum (variants of older versions of 14 are showing up in newer software. See here: [https://www.teslafi.com/firmware.php](https://www.teslafi.com/firmware.php) '14.2.2.1, then 13.2.9, then 14.1.4.) Looks like FSD might need another architecture change to make progress.

Highway versus city is a very big difference.

That’s combined highway driving from NC to FL and doing all the driving in central FL with the usual insane drivers. It handles it fine.

Not all HW3 have the same hardware. The latest HW3 has better hardware than the early HW3, and it shows on the quality of FSD. What year is your model 3?

It will be more interesting if we know the year is of your model 3?

It’s not. HW3 is HW3. There may be slight hardware iterations as things are streamlined but the chips are the same.

The above is what I got from Gemini. You can see the difference of older HW3 and newer HW3.

Does it have AMD Ryzen?
B1A23
2025-12-30 02:54
Yes but the MCU chip doesn’t have anything to do with the FSD chips. That’s an entirely different board. AMD Ryzen concerns the display and graphics.

Here is the Gemini'\[s answer:
In 2025, there is a clear performance gap within the Hardware 3 (HW3) family. **Older HW3 vehicles typically deliver a worse FSD experience than newer HW3 vehicles**, primarily due to the secondary computer (the infotainment processor) and minor camera refinements.
