What is the correct way to insert the Aero inserts of M3P Warp wheel?

Hi, Just took delivery of my M3P two days ago and Tesla has started to not mount the Aero inserts for the rims so the inserts comes boxed instead. Tesla said that it's easy to insert them but I would still like to ask here before doing so. I don't want to cause unnecessary scratching. The only tutorial on YouTube I found for inserting them is this: https://youtube.com/shorts/H-mkdChfCno I personally like the look with the caps on and the 2-3% added range doesn't hurt.

There's no other way than pushing it in. The plastics doesn't scratch the wheel, but dirt and stones will. So ideally you want to have the wheels clean before installation. On the other hand, the covers will lead to scratched wheels because abrasive material gets in between while driving. What I'm trying to say is, don't over think it. Covers will lead to scratched wheels upon removal no matter how you install them.

Thanks for taking your time to answer, I really appreciate it! Your answer is pretty much the information I gathered so far. When reading the comments of the video I linked to It seemed like people thought that inserting they way he did wasn't the most optimal way of doing. One comment said that you could lubricate the plastic clips so you wouldn't have to use as much force. That got me overthinking the process. The car is in for a full PPF right now so it'll be very clean when I receive it. Will be taking the opportunity to insert the Aero inserts then.

I wish Tesla didn't install them for me. I wanted to take mine off today but it seems like everyone is scratching them.

What I gathered when I was trying to find information for the reverse situation is that most of the scratches can be buffed out using some polish compound. It seems like 90% are residue from the plastic tabs.

Why would you?

As stated in the post. I personally like the look with them on and also the added range is a bonus. I mainly drive on the highway to work.

Could you use some scrap PPF and PPF the contact points on the wheels where it’s not visible externally? I know that’s a lot of work, but it sounds like something I would do. Lol.

If I think I was ever to reverse the process that I would certainly think about your idea, but I know that I will leave the Aero inserts forever. I'm very extreme generally when it comes to my stuff hence the post to not cause unnecessary scratching. Just read through the manual, seems the guy in the video was doing generally doing it correct but should've have fully inserted Point B instead of then smashing Point C. https://service.tesla.com/docs/Model3/ServiceManual/2024/en-us/GUID-A0B21120-C38B-4551-8662-745A26440CF8.html#:~:text=Remove%20wishbone%20%3Cem%3Eaero%3C%2Fem%3E%20wheel%20inserts.

Yep I removed mine recently and even though I was super careful, the paint on the wheels looks terrible in several places from scratches I couldn't avoid.
