3 years and 95,000 miles, still loving every second of it!

drs7896 | 2025-12-24 20:41 | 556 views

Hands down the best car for the money. Three years of driving and just under 95K miles. Between 5 referrals, 10K miles of free super charging that came with it, free charging at work and at the ski mountains it's saved me ~8K compared to what I was spending in gas before this. Used my first referral for the acceleration boost, not worth it for 2K but so worth it for free. Road trips are a little longer but no problem, from NJ I've taken it to: Vermont 10 times West Virginia 8 times Michigan 2 times

congrats, give us the pros and cons, any problems and issues. Might as well, you're almost at the 100k!

Fresh-Bid6315 2025-12-24 21:19

Awesome. I have had mine 4 months now and I honestly won’t ever buy another ICE car. A diesel yes for my truck. Love my M3.

drs7896 2025-12-24 21:42

Problems: Had to replace a wheel bearing, did it myself to save money, took a couple hours, and only real problem I had was an exposed wire that was draining my low voltage battery, took the SC a couple hours to find and fix that so not a huge deal. Cons: Only real con for me is the increase in travel time on long trips, but not really a huge deal. Would happily pay for a range extender to give me 400 miles if they offered it since I drive so much. Cabin is a little loud. Pros: it's fast, really fast, handles great, charging is simple and easy, warming the car up and being able to turn on and adjust the heated seats is one of my favorite features. Lots of room for luggage for its size. With a roof rack have no problem taking myself and 3 others skiing for a weekend. And of course the biggest pro is the gas savings.

Potential_Rabbit4287 2025-12-24 21:50

Which roof rack?

drs7896 2025-12-24 21:52

Tesla OEM roof rack, I forget the brand the ski rack in the picture is but it sucked, have a Yakima FatCat EVO 6 now, works really well.

Potential_Rabbit4287 2025-12-24 21:53

Nice that’s great! We’ve been trying to figure out the storage issue for group outdoor activities with gear. Thank you!

y0shi12 2025-12-24 22:35

Here's the inevitable what's your battery health. I have a 22' LR with 77%.

Bbronson123 2025-12-24 23:24

How many miles? My 2022 LR is at 27k miles with 16% degradation. Bought it used a few months ago for $22k so can’t complain. Still have about 5 years of battery warranty if the degradation hits 30% by then, not worried. I may even consider the new 2 year battery warranty extension if I get close to my original warranty ending and the degradation is close enough to 30% to get a warrantied battery for like $2.5k instead of $10k+

drs7896 2025-12-24 23:32

I've never done the battery health test thing but I've lost ~44 miles of range, so ~12% I guess

y0shi12 2025-12-24 23:41

I also bought mine used with around 75,000 miles 2 years ago. Now at 96,000. I think it's only lost 1% since I've had it. It was previously used for a ride share so guessing the previous owners didn't do proper charging practice.

Im_Aloha 2025-12-24 23:58

What ski rack are you using? I just bought a rhino rack, not sure I love it.

AredditJ 2025-12-25 00:14

I’m thinking of getting a Yakima FatCat Evo 6 roof rack as well! Any review on it compared to your previous one? The one I have is super bulky and I feel realllllly messed up my range. Idk if you noticed a difference with the FatCAT

drs7896 2025-12-25 00:14

Yakima FatCat EVO 6 (not pictured), actually fits 6 pairs of skis, love it. I forget what brand it was in the picture but they sucked. Claimed they could fit 6 pairs, almost impossible to close with just 3 pairs.

drs7896 2025-12-25 00:15

Previous one claimed it could fit 6 pairs of skis, but was almost impossible to close with just 3 pairs. Yakima FatCat EVO 6 is great, actually fits 6 pairs and is easy to use and looks way better.

Bbronson123 2025-12-25 01:34

Yeah those first 1-3 years the degradation curve is pretty damn steep. I think mine was majority slow charged to 80% the owner told me. Hope to keep the car for 8-10 years trouble free🤞

Pittman247 2025-12-25 01:55

Bro, I wish my local mountains had charging stations. 😒

drs7896 2025-12-25 01:58

I wish I had mountains that were local 🥲

Subconciously 2025-12-25 02:11

It’s nice to know I’m not the only person driving astronomical amounts of miles in my model 3.

Any travel or charging hacks while on long distance trips?

Pepper_Y0ur_Angus 2025-12-25 03:46

Check out this review of common ski racks https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/model-3-roof-rack-options-comparing-efficiencies.143042/ I have the FatCat Evo 4 and regularly take 4 snowboarders. It’s not great but it seems to be the best option

CG_throwback 2025-12-25 06:50

Love all the posts being concerned with longevity. Enjoy OP.

Present-Ad-9598 2025-12-25 08:46

My 2018 is at 120k+ miles now, still runs like I just picked it up off the lot

Forsaken_Treacle_407 2025-12-25 11:36

I’m at 43k miles in my Highland M3 LR AWD after 14 months. So far, my only issue was one bent rim.

[deleted] 2025-12-25 11:58

Try Y. TM3 is shitt

Longjumping_Proof_97 2025-12-25 15:17

Nice

drs7896 2025-12-25 16:39

Don't be afraid to charge to 100% before you start your drive. You can always remove all charging stops and put in ones that fit your travel plans better (i.e. less frequent and longer charging stops). Don't stress about optimal battery health, just drive! The mobile adapter for charging at airbnbs is also a great perk. Draft trucks on the high way, even at 4 car lengths behind you can see a significant decrease in Wh/mi.

ehed 2025-12-25 22:21

How many sets of tires have you gone through? I’m finding that is eating significantly into my fuel savings.

drs7896 2025-12-25 22:29

Two, put 43K on the set that came with the car, then put 49K on a set of Hankook ion evo AS, still have ~5K miles of life left in them Just switched to a different set of wheels I bought that have cross climate 2s on them for the winter, will switch back to finish off the Hankooks in the spring. Pretty happy with how much I've gotten out of the tires considering how hard I drive. Hankooks are nice and quiet, Cross Climates did great in the snow coming back from Vermont this week. Will probably always run those two going forward.

ComparisonGold5164 2025-12-26 01:29

Just hit 125 k bought in dec 2023

Neat_Welcome6203 2025-12-26 04:48

Pushing 3 & I'm on track to cross 70k by the new year. Best damn car I've owned.

Neat_Welcome6203 2025-12-26 04:49

You don't drop all that money on a car just to let it collect dust, do ya now?

BotherFew1452 2025-12-26 15:44

Wow how much money in insurance are you paying with all that driving?

IllustratorSudden221 2025-12-26 16:20

I’m almost at four years and I’m at 103,000. Still love the thrill of driving it. The constant software updates, never having to go to a gas station, the minimal maintenance. I’ll have this car forever I hope.

otgixxer 2025-12-27 01:07

Someone said the awd model 3 was bad in the snow, i havent had mine in the snow, but it seems like it would do good?

drs7896 2025-12-27 01:20

It's great in the snow. Have cross climate 2s on for the winter and drove back from Vermont in the snow on Tuesday and it was a breeze

racinjetford 2025-12-27 01:53

Just posted about my 3 with 245k on it now. Still doing great. sooooo I’ll cross my fingers! and sending good vibes for all of us 🙏

racinjetford 2025-12-27 01:54

Some insurance companies don’t seem to care about miles. Others change way up or way down based on miles. Hopefully he’s got one that doesn’t track/care

racinjetford 2025-12-27 01:56

245k here and besides the top 20% charging a bit slower on one long stretch on a roadtrip I take often, it basically feels same as new. Last vehicle I had with 245k on it definitely did NOT drive like new anymore

Subconciously 2025-12-27 01:59

Woah!! Are you on your original battery pack?

racinjetford 2025-12-27 01:59

If you learn to ride the bottom 60%, it charges fastest from 5%-60% vs a 25%-80% charge where it starts to slow a little bit towards the top. Once you travel enough you get a feel for how close you can push it to zero, and you can always draft a truck if you’re in a headwind and using more than expected

racinjetford 2025-12-27 02:02

Yeah I had a bigger drop from 0-50k miles then hardly any since then to 245k miles so I stopped worrying about degradation. It still makes it to every charging stop on all road trips I take with ease and still charges fast at this mileage

racinjetford 2025-12-27 02:04

Same drivetrain and battery. But with the extra height the Y sure is nice to get in and out of

racinjetford 2025-12-27 02:06

Even the rwd 3 ain’t bad in snow. The awd Tesla’s are fantastic

racinjetford 2025-12-27 02:17

Definitely. Still accelerates hard and charges fast. Degradation leveled out to basically no more after 120k, except for one 5-10mile step down at 220k miles when I missed a supercharger talking to my kids on a road trip, and pushed it 14 miles PAST zero. But made it to the next charger and haven’t seen any more degradation in 25k more miles so no longer worried about the idea I “damaged” it at this point

Subconciously 2025-12-27 04:13

That’s so awesome! Congrats! I always worry that my battery will die just after I hit 100k miles so I appreciate the info it gives me some relief haha

racinjetford 2025-12-27 04:51

I felt the same for a bit. Warranty at that time was to 120k and I considered selling or trading in but paid it off instead of paying a down payment and tax on a new car... At over double that mileage I am happy with my decision! https://preview.redd.it/jtnstxe3go9g1.jpeg?width=2556&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25eaa4cb5f2fa1a140c4acc065441fbf682cc552 Here she is doing a little off-roading in southern Utah…. 🤣 like I said. I have not babied this car. I am very happy that it’s held together anyways

Present-Ad-9598 2025-12-27 05:22

What year is the car?

racinjetford 2025-12-27 05:24

2017

Present-Ad-9598 2025-12-27 05:26

Nice

tonkahipot 2025-12-27 23:10

😬

Practical_Average761 2025-12-28 13:28

I live in GA and leased my model 3 for 3 years and I’m about to give it up and pick up my new ride the model s red, white interior, premium wheels. As much as I wanted to get the plaid, I did not because I want the range. That was the draw back on the m3 ‘cause I had the short range. Anyway, not sure if you live in the south or colder climates, but in constant winters 30 degrees and below how fast were superchargers? I only ask ‘cause I traveled with it many times but only GA - Washington DC and Ga-Keywest. Times I went to DC it wasn’t cold so didn’t get to experience it in that way. Anyone can answer this question 🤪

superh0 2025-12-28 16:26

Winter or all season tires?

drs7896 2025-12-28 17:41

All season, this pic is whatever tires came with it, then I had Hankook Ion AS and I just put Cross Climate 2s on for the winter, they have been great in the snow, the others we fine too, never had a problem but definitely feel more confident with the Cross Climates.

LostBoySteve 2025-12-31 13:01

How is your winter battery life? I'm in NJ also. Mine isn't really great and I'm not sure if its something i have in the settings.

drs7896 2026-01-01 01:13

Lose around 10-15% because of the cold below 40. Battery drain over night isn't much of a problem anymore, unless it's really cold I don't lose more than 1% a night, even below freezing sometimes two nights before I lose a %. Range loss is only really a pain on long trips with more charging required.

LostBoySteve 2026-01-12 16:32

Thanks. Yeah driving doesnt seem to be terrible, overnight I lose almost 6%. I checked and I dont have century or anything on.

drs7896 2026-01-12 18:29

I would try a hard reset of the car if you haven't already, holding down both buttons on the wheel and pressing the break. Seems like a lot to be losing overnight.
