Maybe it goes of the map data and that overrides why the cameras see? 🤷🏻♂️
I’ve been told for years that Tesla uses vision and not map data for speed limit , so I doubt that. I believe this because Google , Waze etc get this right and Tesla gets it wrong. Every. Single. Time. My one huge complaint…besides auto wipers of course
It’s very frustrating, and it’s magnified by the max speed setting being removed. It also sucks in construction zones on the highway now as a result.
Without a doubt, autopilot uses a crude mixture of both. FSD, that’s a different story, of which, I have limited experience with + I’m still on v12 on HW3. There’s one part of a local highway that Autopilot adjusts the speed down 10 MPH with 0 speed limit signs present. Cars behind me think I’m break checking them EVERY TIME.
Same. It thinks my local highway is 55 instead of 65 AND treats it as an undivided road so autopilot is limited to 5 over making it completely useless. Going the other direction it's still hanging on to data from an old construction zone and randomly drops to 35 for a couple hundred feet.
Yeah I got pulled over two days ago. Had FSD on, speed limit was 55 and it was going 58-59. Guess the limit drops to 45 mph for a very small stretch and the car didn’t register it.
I have the same frustration with changing lanes into a turning lane. Why does the turn signal turn off???
Does it hw4 and most recent update too.
It has gotten comically bad at speed sign reading. Mixed with not being able to actually adjust speed with fsd, makes it ridiculous.
It seems as if the camera doesn't see an arrow early enough on the ground, it just shuts off.
Literally every day I have this issue. I'm constantly primed to press the indicator as soon as it auto turns off when entering dedicated turn lanes.
Some parts of FSD are amazingly difficult. Letting us set the max speed is not. Why can’t we??
You can also press and hold the turn signal, that way the signal will stay on until either you press it again or turn the wheel the other direction
I hope this is some update soon…
It uses both and it’s very not reliable
Because 69...
Autopilot after the lane shifts for construction: This section of the interstate is 25 MPH. Don't worry, I'll brake check the semi for you
Latest version of autopilot is really quite bad. I've gone from virtually 100% autopilot on highways to less than 20%
There is a section in our local higway, where there is no traffic sign, but it always brakes and set the speed ljmit to 50 km/h, even if it's own recognised speed limit does notnchange from 100 km/h. The whole ruise control behavior makes me crazy, I cannot understand why it sometimes speeds up and own properly based on recognised signs, but sometimes nothing happens even if it was able to register new speen limit. On the highway.
I have a small section of road in town where it thinks the speed limit is 90. It’s 45. The highway designation is 90. Good times.
I doubt it uses cameras to read speed limits (on autosteer). I have a stretch of road where it doesn’t read the speed limit sign one way and keeps going without slowing down and when coming back it reads the sign and the screen shows the lower speed limit but it takes a few seconds longer than usually before it starts to break. On another stretch of road, which has had a 100km/h limit for years already, it just decides suddenly that it’s 80km/h limit but there are no speed limit signs there anymore. The spot used to have 80 limit zone but it changed when they built second lane and made it a 100 through out the whole road. Can get iffy in the winter if you don’t stay on top of it when road is covered in ice and it suddenly decelerates.
EVERY TIME
When I had mine, it would read every exit sign speed limit I would pass. So it'd slam on the breaks from 70-75 down to 45. Literally. Every. Single. Exit.
I honestly hate that they post the speed limit in areas 😂 can't play dumb if I ever get pulled over
Along I65 southbound I believe in Ohio, twice FSD had a sudden change from 70mph to 55mph. When I asked about this on Reddit, a couple of people mentioned that it was most likely speed mapping an old speed limit for construction. It did look like construction had been completed in the area sometime back. The posters said that a lot of speed changes is due to MapBox database. Anybody have further information?
Lovely
Not sure what MapBox database is, but Waze, Google and Apple maps all know the speed limit is 70mph here.
yeah, it feels like it uses both, at least on my ‘21 M3 (in the UK, with autopilot+autosteer). it’s “seeing” temporary speed signs that show on screens above the motorway and adjusting accordingly, but there are certain off-ramps where it decides the speed limit is 45mph (it’s not, it’s 70), usually as the off-ramp meets a turn. it feels like there are certain tricky turns that are just hardcoded as 45mph, overriding the vision system (it seems to kick in at the exact same point each time, to the extent that i now just hover my foot over the accelerator pedal to override it when we get there 😂)
That really annoys me too!
Not only does mine do this. But now it will also randomly change the speed limit to something else when there are no signs at all. And do not get me started on school zone speed limits GAH! Oh look it's 1pm on a Monday, guess I will blow full speed through this school zone. (I always take over and slow carefully if I notice it is not slowing for the sign. (In my state you need to be at or below the speed before you pass the sign. Oh look it's 11pm on a Saturday night, better slam on the breaks down to 22mph in this school zone.
What year is your model 3?
nice
It's a fun game we play, where the car gets you used to having to set the limit yourself, so when it randomly automatically adjust from 50 to 60 right as you place your finger on the controls, you then adjust up to 70 and feel stupid.
The speed limit sign detection has gotten so bad. It’s so much worse than my much older Toyota. Wtf Tesla? Speed limit sign detection is a solved issue
Dec 22
Lol they don't care about basic autopilot. We will never get this fixed
That reminds me of a joke.
I always sing I can’t drive 55 until it resets.
Because you don't have FSD? The old Autopilot seems to default to map details over reading signs.
Most people don’t have FSD, for example the rest of the world outside the U.S. I really hate how Tesla doesn’t give a fu** about anyone except a few users with FSD…and of course the shareholders. Buying my M3 was one of the worst decisions I have ever made!
Why would all the other maps, get the speed right though
It’s happening now on my FSD 14.2.1.25. So it’s. It unique to autopilot. This was a none issue for me on FSD13.2.9. Idk what they did but speed limits are horribly inaccurate as of late.
