Phone Usage on FSD

gotgoodereman | 2025-12-21 15:08 | 27 views

Hey, so is FSD letting you use your phone? I’m gonna start college soon but I also have a full time job and I drive an hour to work. There and back so two hours. And it would be helpful if I could be on my phone while the car drives itself lol. So I can study.

Not right now but u can kinda do it if you keep looking back and forth. Apparently unsupervised fsd is coming soon though, probably within the first few months of next year if elon is being truthful

SomegalInCa 2025-12-21 15:18

Ha ha ha ha. Oh sorry The “if Elon is truthful “ part got me cause my 2018 Model 3 was supposed to be making me $$ as a robot taxi by now Don’t risk using your phone while driving and don’t do a purchase on the promise that you might be able to…

rwhe83 2025-12-21 15:18

Dear god, just no. This is the most idiotic things I’ve ever heard in my life. You still have to pay attention with FSD, not studying while you use it. Did you fully read this before posting it? Ride a bus if you aren’t able to pay attention to the road, it’ll keep us all safer.

Acceptable_Main_5911 2025-12-21 15:19

Yeah it’s more of a ‘hey it didn’t bug me when I checked my phone real quick, it usually yells at me more’ than a straight up unsupervised. It’ll still get on to you to pay attention, just more tolerance.

gotgoodereman 2025-12-21 15:25

Oh okay thank you. I hope full unsupervised rolls out soon .

gotgoodereman 2025-12-21 15:28

Yea , I definitely won’t buy it until I’m sure it’d be safe and that I can actually do it. I saw a video where this guy was literally on his phone for like an hour lol. So idk honestly that’s why I’m asking.

Seansong82 2025-12-21 15:39

Are you serious or trolling? The whole point of FSD is for that reason alone and currently we are almost there!

rwhe83 2025-12-21 15:40

Almost….

[deleted] 2025-12-21 15:41

Not yet, but it's supposedly coming "soon."

Glum_Perception_1077 2025-12-21 15:48

No. It barely allows my polarized sunglasses 😂

TonedBioelectricity 2025-12-21 15:52

Yeah it's not true unsupervised but as a fellow college student I can say you're definitely able to study way more than in any other car (just make sure you get a HW4 one). I've used FSD for years and v14 is the first one where I'm starting to question how much I really have to pay attention. Almost 6k miles on v14 and not a single significant safety issues. Go demo drive a Tesla (just go on their website and click demo drive) and you'll get a better idea. Also feel free to DM me with any questions.

People like this are the reason accident rates are on the rise.

People like this are the reason accident rates are on the rise.

ca2mt 2025-12-21 15:57

But accident rates aren’t on the rise..

KilroyKSmith 2025-12-21 15:57

And have been almost there for almost ten years now…

rwhe83 2025-12-21 15:59

You’re right, we should be at full self driving by now.

KilroyKSmith 2025-12-21 16:01

Can you make it work? Probably, though you might have to do something like glance up at the road regularly or block the camera and tie a weight to the steering wheel. Will it be safe?  On the freeway, probably most of the time.  When it isn’t safe, however, life will get real ugly real fast. Should you do it?  Now, there’s a value judgement.  Personally, I’d bitch-slap you and say “what is wrong with you?  Of course you shouldn’t”, but that’s just me.

gotgoodereman 2025-12-21 16:10

Stay mad unc

phobos_664 2025-12-21 16:13

Ummm. No. It "allows" you to use your phone for like 30 secs, specially if you look at it using your left arm where the camera seems to have somewhat of a blindspot, but it'll still see you are looking elsewhere and scream you for it.

gotgoodereman 2025-12-21 16:14

Thank you for your honest opinion

gotgoodereman 2025-12-21 16:16

Hmm I thought they have started to relax a bit on that.

mrandr01d 2025-12-21 16:32

They are, and that's why insurance rates are going up.

ca2mt 2025-12-21 16:38

Source? Insurance rates are going up because of marginal fluctuations in accident rates, instead of the exponential increase in the sales price and increased repair costs of new cars in the last 10 years?

amoeba1126 2025-12-22 05:14

How is he wrong? FSD for consumers is SUPERVISED, meaning he NEEDS to pay attention. As for being almost there, per Elon we've been almost there since 2018.

jimijamal1 2026-01-18 22:17

Yeah just pull out the mirror visor and extend it to cover the cameras view on you then it will let you do anything as long as you keep doing the occasional steering wheel action or just turn the volume a bit, you can also cover your eyes with your hand and look at your phone

When was that mentioned? I didn’t know that Phone monitoring was getting turned off. It would be nice since the monitoring messes up and thinks I’m using a phone when I’m not.
