Parting ways with my Civic for a M3

escapefromreality42 | 2025-12-20 01:34 | 34 views

Just completed a trade-in for my 2008 Civic Hybrid for a 2021 M3 LR. I loved my Civic but it was at 200k+ miles and has quite a bit of cosmetic damage as well as some major repairs needed on it that I didn’t want to pay for. Also my mom has been nagging me to get a new car for years that is safer and has the newer tech. I don’t really want to regret the purchase since I signed the papers already, I paid in cash so it kinda stings especially since I have ambitious saving plans to pay off my house and retire early. I always thought cars were a waste of money, my Civic was a hand me down from my dad so this is the first car I’ve ever bought and Civics are super reliable and super cheap. I basically had zero car costs with cheap insurance minimal gas. The repairs were the only killer when it did happen. Also I’ve been interested in EVs for a long time since I already had a Hybrid and want this to last at least 10 years to get my money’s worth. I just need like moral reassurance I guess that this was a good idea lol

It’s a great car. I had a 2021 too. But upgrade from the 2017. You should have plenty left on the powertrain warranty…you don’t know its history since it’s used car from someone else…but powertrain are pretty durable. I think autopilot will spoil you…as well as the acceleration. Set your battery to % not miles left. Trust the trip planner. Enjoy it…don’t stress

i had a 2019 civic and switched to a M3. I sort of regret it. The civic is actually a lot more fun to drive, and built better.

Did the same waited until about 198k and some major repairs and made the switch. Once you figure out your charging situation you are good to go. Welcome!

A 2025 M3 is far superior in build to a 2019 Civic.

I have a 2023 Tesla

Pre-Highland is a far inferior build quality for the M3.

OP got a 2021, not a 2025.

Lol, come on back in a few days and tell us what you thought! Most of us are a bit surprised to find that it's such a nice car to drive.

I have a 24 highland. While it looks better, the build quality is still worse than a civic.

Did a 2000-mile trip with mine. It was quiet and solid as a rock.

Lol. Civics are slow af and don't handle nearly as good due to the lack of low the battery position and frame of the tesla model 3. I know people who upgraded from far better cars and say they can't go back from tesla.

i preferred the civic handling. Yeah, it was slower, but realizing acceleration isn't everything.

FSD, acceleration, over-the-air updates, no more gas stations and wake up every morning with a “full tank”? Never going back!
