Are people using and liking Summon?

HmmDoesItMakeSense | 2025-12-15 23:27 | 41 views

I was wondering after all the updates if people are using this a lot now? I used it for first time, just having it move up my driveway and it did well but read older horror stories. Thoughts or experiences?

I use it when I go shopping and it’s cold or raining. At work I call it up to the front of my office while it warms up. Absolutely love it. Once on vacation it was raining and we were checking out. Called it to under the awning in the hotels roundabout. Stayed dry as a bone

PM_TITS_FOR_KITTENS 2025-12-15 23:37

I don’t think any of the recent FSD updates changed the way summon behaves since it was originally updated a long time ago. I use it to pick me up in front of my work when it’s raining and if I ever go out for dinner. Other than that, I kinda don’t use it that much. A big reason is because it feels SUPER skittish compared to FSD driving through a parking lot. for that reason, I’ve had a couple situations where it doesn’t want to activate or I have to walk to the car since it stops suddenly whereas if it used the current FSD platform, it would do it perfect almost every time. I think once they finally merge the stacks, it will be great, until then a bit of a party trick. A useful party trick, but a party trick nonetheless.

HmmDoesItMakeSense 2025-12-15 23:41

What is "merge the stacks"? I have heard the term stacks before but am ignorant.

Kilo_Juliett 2025-12-15 23:44

Never tried it nor do I have the desire to.

xxhighlanderxx 2025-12-15 23:55

It's garbage for me.

PM_TITS_FOR_KITTENS 2025-12-16 00:06

Autopilot has a completely different software running it Auto park has a completely different software running it FSD has its own special software running it And summon, like the other examples, also has its own software. It’s not one big program handling each feature. So what I (and others) mean by “merging the stacks”, is them combining two or more of those programs to only use one software. In this example, FSD almost never gives me any problems in parking lots anymore. So if summon used FSD software instead of its own program, it would function much more reliably and quicker. The problem is summon is offered through premium connectivity and you don’t need to pay for FSD to access it. So they probably don’t want to use FSD for it at the moment for that reason and I think it’s holding it back, so I’m hoping someday they decide to suck it up and merge it since it’s so much more reliable

TowElectric 2025-12-16 00:09

No, frankly. Everyone I know used it 1-2x and said "it's too scary" and stopped.

pkragthorpe 2025-12-16 00:58

I was super excited to try it this weekend at the mall! -5 out and had to park a ways away. Only to get to the entrance after our walk and pull up summon and see “move closer to vehicle”. Like wtf. There’s apparently a restriction on how far away it’ll work! So disappointed.

Bfly208 2025-12-16 01:04

I use it occasionally, but I’ve had two really close calls in the last couple of weeks. Both times pulling out in front of other moving cars that have right away. So make sure you always keep it in full of view and be ready to drop your finger from that button quickly. Still just a party trick if you want to keep your liability low.

Seahawk2001 2025-12-16 01:11

It’s a cool trick when it works but I’ve had it freeze up at about 50% of the time I’ve used it. And once it tried to drive up a sidewalk.

Weak_Moment6408 2025-12-16 01:17

I’ve used it a few times. I would use it a lot more if it weren’t for the distance limitations. And I never use it in busy parking lots, I don’t think it’s ready for that yet.

I use it as a party trick on occasion but it generally turns in an odd direction then gets confused and I give up. Essentially it’s completely useless. The simple pull forward / backward function has been useful a few times to get out of tight spots.

Aaron614 2025-12-16 02:13

I tried once when it was raining and the supermarket parking lot wasn’t very busy. It decided to come to a stop in an aisle when pretty much the only other car in the lot decided they also wanted to leave. I had to basically run to my car and move it out of the way of the other driver. That was embarrassing enough that I don’t bother with it these days.

djbriankeith 2025-12-16 02:40

Used it a few times thought it was super cool. But did it just because I could lol. Not like I can’t live without it. Now dumb summon… I’ve used that quite a few times and its really helpful. Just backs up and pulls forward, but good for when assholes park an inch away from your door.

NotDaBiscuit 2025-12-16 02:41

After it failed on me in a pretty standard parking lot at a restaurant and I had to run out and move my car I don’t even chance it. If I’m close enough to be safe using it then what’s the point of using it at all.

Immediate_Hamster766 2025-12-16 02:43

It’s embarrassed me twice but is neat when it works

word-dragon 2025-12-16 02:45

Used it twice. Once to have it back out of a spot so tight, I could never have gotten in, and once in a very controlled situation. Not sure I’m ready to start using it in busy parking lots.

JaniceRossi_in_2R 2025-12-16 02:49

I’m too nervous and embarrassed to try it in public and my Juniper always gets scared

YouAlreadyKnow1523 2025-12-16 03:06

It’s funny to me because half the time I use it it’s more inconvenient and doesn’t work. One time we had our baby with us when it was down pouring so we summoned standing inside of target and that was the one it was worth it. It was also a not so humble brag to people around us saying “is your car picking you up?”

ProcessNo1281 2025-12-16 03:31

Doesn't work as great for me

r1ght0n 2025-12-16 03:38

I park to close to the curb and back of the lot for it to work for me 98% of the time…..

Kirkandree 2025-12-16 03:54

My Summon (2018 M3 LR) no longer connects, just keeps ‘trying’.

HmmDoesItMakeSense 2025-12-16 03:58

Ahhhh thank you SO Much. Makes sense.

Burento_desu 2025-12-16 04:05

I use it in the parking area of the hospital where I work. Also in the grocery. ASS is so much much. 😁

Mrslyyx1 2025-12-16 04:06

It works for me nearly every time, surprisingly, and I’m on HW3 Intel. I used it a lot in the past, but lately I haven’t, forgot about it, tbh.

Lonely_Habit9214 2025-12-16 04:35

Tbh I don’t use it because it just stopped in the middle of a parking aisle once. It’s cool but only for certain situations, preferably when there is no one or anything is around it.

HmmDoesItMakeSense 2025-12-16 05:11

Gets scared haha yep

IWantToPlayGame 2025-12-16 05:20

Never used it.

TopEnd1907 2025-12-16 05:24

Tbh I am scared to use it. I love FSD but have not used Summon.

NumerousHelicopter6 2025-12-16 05:26

Until they make it behave like the car would in FSD and stop making us drive it with our phones., it's pretty much useless.

PolyPill 2025-12-16 05:37

I live in Europe and have a tiny European garage. I use it all the time to get the car in and out. Saves me a huge hassle, especially with a kid.

rwrife 2025-12-16 05:41

My company has parking spots barely wide enough for a mini cooper, so I have to use it a lot just to get in my car.

Famvam 2025-12-16 06:02

I use it almost everyday pulling it up from my back lot up to my work building. My parking lot is well lit at night.

Ataiatek 2025-12-16 08:38

I mainly use it at hotels. So you don't have to walk your bags all the way back to your car you can just summon it and it'll come to you. Or you don't have to walk around the parking lot cuz sometimes if you come home late you're not going to find a spot near the front of the hotel and so usually I'll just go to the lobby and wait for the car to come to me. Other than that I don't really use it I'm not really in any places I don't mind walking and use it from parking far away from the entrance it's going to be a Walmart and those are always one ways and it doesn't understand that and I don't want it running the wrong way and getting into an accident. But I use it in targets and all that and it works I've never had an issue except for in the rain where it just will not work.

Ataiatek 2025-12-16 08:39

That sucks because the one time you actually want it is when it's raining outside and it doesn't work in the rain. Because the cameras are partially blocked because the rain will sit on your car while you're in there. It's honestly a really bad design in my opinion.

Present-Ad-9598 2025-12-16 08:57

Works great in my work parking lot, sometimes it’s iffy at HEB, works good at the gym closest to my house. Everywhere else I avoid unless I know exactly how it will perform, I don’t wanna be obnoxious by blocking the road

-eccentric- 2025-12-16 10:24

It has a range of 6 meters in the EU and at that point it's just a party trick that'll make a fool of yourself because half of the time it doesn't work and yields to ghosts. I sometimes use it to move it forward/backward a little in parking situations.

RhoOfFeh 2025-12-16 11:59

When it works it's utterly amazing. Having the car come get me at the supermarket entrance is delightful. When it doesn't work it's frustrating and blocks people.

Informal_Set_1163 2025-12-16 12:06

In our opinion its very slow to arrive. I think its odd that it uses a blinker turning out of the parking stall. One of the times we summoned the car it took a longer path and then went out of range. Tesla has some work to do.

TRF1981 2025-12-16 15:32

I tried to use it once to play a joke on my mom (77) and her boyfriend (82). Went into pick up pizza at a strip mall along a busy road and left them in the car. On the way out I used the summon feature and it turned the opposite way that I expected and started making its way out to the road. Had to release the button and run down the parking lot as the car was holding up traffic.

HmmDoesItMakeSense 2025-12-16 16:46

Omg! I bet that was wild.

HmmDoesItMakeSense 2025-12-16 16:47

Ya I would love that! But think am going to hold off on using in public for now.

SirAgravaine 2025-12-16 17:47

I've used it once when I forgot my umbrella. It still looks like you're letting your 98 year half blind grandma drive for the first time in 20 years.

HmmDoesItMakeSense 2025-12-16 17:52

Haha! I tried auto park once and it was similar. Like uhhh I'm scared.

xxllbeastllxx 2025-12-16 19:23

Warning: If you ever need to test it, avoid doing so if the car is parked next to a curb. It won’t care and will run over the curb, scratching the rims without mercy for summoning it.

AKADAP 2025-12-16 20:02

I have used summon exactly once when someone parked way too close to my driver side door for me to get into the car. I had it back the car out of its space far enough for me to get in.

Wo0d643 2025-12-16 20:10

I use it on my hw3 car sometimes. It did great until the last two times it backed out of the parking spot into the lane and refused to move any further. My dumbass running across the parking lot with a kid in a full cart of groceries. Make sure the kid is secured properly in his seat and literally throw my groceries into the car while the line of cars behind me just sits there blocked from moving. I won’t be trying it again until I find an empty lot.

pipinngreppin 2025-12-16 20:59

I use it as a little party trick with coworkers. On a rainy day, it could be nice and practical though.

nimmy283 2025-12-16 23:51

It sucks unless it’s an empty parking lot

SchlongCopter69 2025-12-17 07:00

Wow. Surprised to see all the negative experience. It’s worked well for me, though I don’t do it super regularly. Maybe once every week or two in a pinch. No big surprises.

jawg201 2025-12-17 15:23

I was but its been a little.. off the past couple weeks. I cant get it to successfully reach me

jawg201 2025-12-17 15:24

It def needs a distance increase. They should add a joystick too so you can drive it within range/ control it when its unsure

lordbancs 2025-12-18 18:33

I use the forward and backward to check for nails in my tires

HmmDoesItMakeSense 2025-12-18 18:56

Ah good idea

No-Preparation5211 2025-12-21 19:15

I use it as a party trick in an empty parking lot. I don’t at all trust it in a busy parking lot with a bunch of people around. It easily gets spooked, especially in the rain (when you’d most likely use it), and will just stop wherever it is.

HmmDoesItMakeSense 2025-12-22 00:10

It reminded me of Christine 🚘when I did it once. Ya rain. The wipers in the rain are also a mystery lol.
