Model 3 Highland Failed MCU…

WoodenAlternative212 | 2025-12-13 22:38 | 52 views

So… am on the Oregon coast. Was 10 mins into my drive back home to CA, and while in FSD, the screen went black, air went off, radio went off, and connectivity to the app died… I had to turn around, and drive back to my family’s house. Tried a soft and hard reset, nothing worked… Tesla is now towing the car all the way to Salem, which is 3 hours from my location. UGH!!! Anyone else have this happen?

None. Just tried to start up after parked at work and nothing worked. The headlight was on but nothing else.

Big reason why I never drive my Tesla for roadtrips. As much as I love my Highland and as low maintenance they generally are, the roadtrip advantages of ICE are still 1) you can get gas anywhere and 2) when something breaks down it is almost always easier/faster to fix.

what caused you to be out of warranty?

Ar-556 2025-12-15 05:16

Autozone can be found in any corner of almost every town lol this is true

Even the most rural towns still have a shop that can service a Camry or Focus. Tesla breaks down there though? SOL until you get it towed to the nearest SC. It is what it is.

As long as your Camry was made before 2005, maybe

Mine was 2019 and the body to body warranty was only 3 or 5 years I think. Forgot since ei have already sold my car

Had the eMMC fail on my 2015 S. Basically it became a really really dumb car. It was out of warranty and Tesla balked at first. But then the NTSA said that it would be a good idea to cover this for all cars out of warranty and Tesla said, yes, this would be an excellent idea to cover this out of warranty.

The mcu failed on my highland 6 months in. Tesla replaced it for free and gave me a loaner and towed it for free. It really wasn’t that big of a deal for me as it happened in my driveway and my sc is only 15 mins away. It would have been a big deal if it happened elsewhere. Same problem no screen, air, app wouldn’t connect. I could shift with the buttons overhead but couldn’t go above 10mph. Best of luck!

I’m pretty sure it was Ant-Man that failed the MCU.
