I have never had FSD avoid a pothole

bboynowee 2025-12-12 01:37

Hope you have the wheel protection plan !

TONNAGE1975 2025-12-12 01:40

That should buff out

gheldean 2025-12-12 01:42

I mean, it's been great for me, but I would've taken over before it hit it if not.

Sir-Logic-Ho 2025-12-12 01:42

Man what kinda pothole was this and how fast?! 😳

02bluesuperroo 2025-12-12 01:46

Mine does wet spot avoidance

msb175 2025-12-12 01:48

Holy heck that must’ve been one hell of a pothole!! 😳

SW1T3K 2025-12-12 01:49

Pretty sure it aims for them.

FixyFixy 2025-12-12 01:52

It seems that way

EatMeerkats 2025-12-12 01:56

Wow, mine also hit a huge pothole but only slightly bent the wheel! Luckily, I had the tire and wheel protection package, so it only cost the $25 deductible instead of $530 for a new wheel.

TheNore 2025-12-12 01:59

It happened so fast. It was on the highway @ 75 mph on hurry profile at night.

TheNore 2025-12-12 01:59

It was on the highway @ 75 mph on hurry profile at night.

TheNore 2025-12-12 02:00

Yeah it was. I didn't see it because there was a truck in front of me that just plowed right through it ☹️ it was at night on the highway @ 75 mph

Desperate_Exercise13 2025-12-12 02:01

Absolutely loves to hit potholes and speed bumps at ramming speed.

TheNore 2025-12-12 02:01

Through Tesla?

EatMeerkats 2025-12-12 02:01

Yep, the $12/month one.

Bluehaze013 2025-12-12 02:04

It's not a miracle worker lol You might be expecting a little too much if you let it drive on these kinds of roads. I don't see anyway radar or even the cameras could discern potholes given the conditions of roads they just throw some asphalt in the hole which leaves a black circular spot which might be a pothole shadow or might be asphalt heck it's hard to tell with your own eyes.

Ok-Ear4216 2025-12-12 02:05

How was your tire air pressure ? Cold temps at night hmm

Sir-Logic-Ho 2025-12-12 02:05

Honestly complain to the city about that, FSD or not there should not be a pothole that can do this much damage to the wheel

Ryuzaki413 2025-12-12 02:10

I mean you can’t even expect a human driver to notice a pothole on the highway at those speeds at night. The governing body ought to fix that before more people start busting their wheels on that.

exgokin 2025-12-12 02:12

75mph into a pothole will do that. Some city’s should have a form for you to fill out and see if you can get reimbursed for the replacement wheel. I believe LA county has it. Take a picture of the said pothole. I hit a deep pothole that was filled with water about a year ago in my GTI. Fortunately, the wheel took no damage.

LoneStarGut 2025-12-12 02:14

He hate to brag, but I rarely ever see potholes on any roads down here in Texas. My city repaves major streets every 10 years. Demand more from your city and state.

TheNore 2025-12-12 02:16

39 psi

Ok-Ear4216 2025-12-12 02:18

Tesla reco is 42psi cold which is more like 44psi on the hwy. so possibly 5 psi less then reccomended. Not sure if it would have made a difference but ima go top off my tires right now !

gheldean 2025-12-12 02:19

Oof, that's unfortunate... also potholes on a highway are a public hazard :(

rogue_rocket23 2025-12-12 02:22

I'm pretty sure people forgot about the S after FSD....

ComparisonGold5164 2025-12-12 02:36

Lol it’s funny how much faith these people are putting into a program that was created less then a decade ago

Jimmy_Durango 2025-12-12 02:36

I hope for a day when this 'joke' is finally retired.

Katmilla 2025-12-12 02:56

Ive hit many a potholes but havent bent mine 🤷‍♂️

diazdiaz2018 2025-12-12 02:57

Those performance model 3 are too low to the ground, but the rims are nice , I had to trade in my car. I had a 2024 performance model 3 , the underneath of my car will hit pretty much every speed bump, the car was just too low to the ground

DistributionUsual857 2025-12-12 03:05

Most people underestimate pothole damage. Don’t just change rim and tire, but rather have it inspected at a good shop. Alignment is out of whack now and needs to be done. Also, have the entire suspension checked thoroughly - parts like outer tie rods can bend from impact, their ball joints give up, rubber seals crack open and have road grime enter the greased joints, etc… oh and for the love of god, get rid of the stock Pirelli and get some Michelin which have more robust rubber. With low profile tires, you need constant radar in your eyes scanning the road for potholes.

rocketbrothers540 2025-12-12 03:06

It shows $16 a month for the wheel protection and $12 a month for the windshield coverage.

EatMeerkats 2025-12-12 03:06

It's the other way around.

buddybe1 2025-12-12 03:07

Yeah, in my city if you report it and let them know it causes damage to your vehicle they’ll send out a crew to look at it and if they determine it’s bad enough they’ll refund you the repair costs if you give them the bill. A friend of mine had almost 600 refunded to them.

JerseyPete4 2025-12-12 03:12

Mine does....

gnowbot 2025-12-12 03:39

If only a technology like LiDAR could map contours even when they don’t show up on a camera (like a pothole looking gray on a gray road)

PM_TITS_FOR_KITTENS 2025-12-12 04:15

Yuuuuuuup, I had to get my rim repaired and a new tire because FSD blew straight over a pothole I was too late to react to around a bend. This was the version just before 14 started coming out, sadly it doesn’t seem to be much better in that regard. Avoids actual objects well, but potholes are still a hazard unsolved.

runningman-18 2025-12-12 10:01

Ugh I drilled on last week that blew out the side wall of my tire !! My rim didn’t get destroyed though like yours did luckily. I was going prob 35-40 on the one I hit but it still slammed hard !

dhanann 2025-12-12 10:12

In theory, they are forged wheels, right? It seems that the concept varies in the case of Tesla. Perhaps they are forged from sheet metal.

Seansong82 2025-12-12 10:20

Omg my biggest fear on my Warps, that sucks! 😭 Would Teslas wheel plan cover damage this extensive? Is it even driveable to a service center?

EmphasisPlane5981 2025-12-12 10:38

No cure for lack of common sense my guy. Next time you demand fsd to spoon fed you ?

stranger_dngr 2025-12-12 11:44

Mine does all the time. In fact, it’s really annoying because the highway I most frequently travel has a lot of cracks that FSD perceives as potholes so it’s swerving to avoid nothing.

Jindouz 2025-12-12 11:47

Log the dashcam video of that moment and threaten to sue the city if they won't refund you the repair costs.

Overall_Dimension_13 2025-12-12 12:05

Fsd aims for potholes lol

TheNore 2025-12-12 12:45

😂 All of this is planned. Need new front tires + alignment. This just accelerated that decision.

mchinsky 2025-12-12 12:52

Low profile tires suck

fusionvic 2025-12-12 12:54

I used FSD for a whole day and quickly realized it would not work with out crazy traffic and potholes. Never used it afterwards and let the free trial expire.

fujimonster 2025-12-12 13:16

It’s the same here in NC for some places but they will only pay if it’s a pothole that has been reported and not fixed .  If they aren’t aware of it , they will not pay .

SizeLegitimate9 2025-12-12 14:10

This is the reason I don’t turn it on in downtown area

SavedByTech 2025-12-12 15:14

I only have "Auto Pilot" and this is the #1 reason why I take over, to avoid pot holes...

proteinn 2025-12-12 16:42

Mine hits potholes all the time. 35mph, 50mph, doesn’t matter. I didn’t think there actually was any avoidance.

Dkaf91 2025-12-12 17:52

This is the way

Odd_Algae_9402 2025-12-12 19:34

I was instantly unsold FSD on it's first pothole.

little_nipas 2025-12-12 20:53

I feel like it used to when v12 first came out. But then there has been some regression with the pothole avoidance.

jml5791 2025-12-12 21:19

I don't understand. Humans don't need lidar to see potholes and avoid them, we just know one when we see it. For a vision based system, this should also be possible, no?

send_them_a_pizza 2025-12-12 23:26

Pothole pete I call it.

Dull_Support_4919 2025-12-13 01:33

This is why I replaced my 20s on my m3p to 18s. I would slap 15s on that bitch if they could physically fit. The more tire the better.

DarknessKira 2025-12-13 02:12

It will avoid potholes if the cars in front do it.

No_Calligrapher7716 2025-12-13 04:35

FSD is great at hitting every pothole

TiGeRpro 2025-12-13 05:03

The $16 a month for windshield starts in January (currently $12 for model 3/Y). The wheel protection cost is $16 a month if you have a model 3 performance.

Fiftynems 2025-12-15 12:01

The roads really need improvement 🤣 we shouldn't have to put up with roads full of potholes

s1lentharbinger 2025-12-15 15:27

Looks like you hit more than a pothole.

Ok_Reveal2414 2025-12-15 23:32

That’s why I wont use it.

UnderwaterSheepHerd 2025-12-16 17:42

FSD on my 2019 M3 seems to aim for the exact same pothole every day. I have to be vigilant to save my rims.
