Not living in L.A. but driving there, around, and back a few times a year I can say that my HW3 Model 3 treats L.A. traffic no different than my home city.
My concern would be highway driving on Chill mode which could be interpreted as offensively slow or overly cautious. Standard works ok for daily highway driving. City driving is ok for most situations, and even construction is handled acceptable.

Thanks. Are there any safety situations you have seen in city driving I should be aware of? Have you experienced any safety issues with FSD handling pedestrians?

FSD v12 on HW3 is very cautious around pedestrians and All Way Stops for example. You can gently coax it along with the accelerator though if it is ever to hesitant. I actually prefer it that way but if you are rather short-tempered you might get annoyed by it easily.

Thanks. Are there any close calls you have experienced in city driving with FSD?

It’s amazing on the 405 at 5. There’s some spots mid city and downtown that I wouldn’t trust it 100% but other than that it’s great.

Thanks. Just to confirm, are you referring to HW3 FSD? And in Mid City and Downtown, are the spots where you wouldn’t trust it 100% in the city streets or on the highway?
Thanks again.

It's not LA but I live in the Bay Area and I'll let it drive around anywhere, including SF with no issues. HW3 is still very good. The only real issue is the car will sometimes pick a lane that I know ends or merges but it's not labeled until way late, but that's more of a map data issue.

I would be very cautious with merge points where two lanes become one out of nowhere like near central LA. It will sometimes maintain a speed where it will be side by side with the car in the left lane which continues but your lane ends. If youre not paying attention and not take over you may find yourself in a serious mess. I've had some close calls in those situations with FSD.

I use it all the time in la. The biggest issue is 2 lane roads where there is parking bc it always try to get over to the lane with parking in it and then you have to go back lol

I have an HW4 but my experience is the it does well most of the time. Biggest peeve for me is that it reacts to the situation and isn't aware of traffic patterns. So it often moves to the wrong lane or doesn't change when it should to avoid being backed up.
That and overly aggressive/bad drivers often makes it hesitate more than it should.
I rarely run it on MadMax as it like to get up in the mid-80s. Hurry works best imo.

I purchased my 2018 Model 3 with FSD new and have driven it in LA for the last 7 years. I use FSD for 99% of drives. With current FSD releases, I have not experienced any safety interventions. It does occasionally do dumb things (mostly, in my experience, related to incorrect mapping or routing) which require intervention, but are not unsafe. I would wholeheartedly recommend purchase.

When I visited Los Angeles from Massachusetts, I felt like it was on its home because it seemed way more smooth on many of the highways and was absolutely amazing in the stop and go traffic of the 501
