Spilled about 1-2 oz of iced latte in the perforated seats and cleaned pretty much in 30 seconds. Do I have anything to worry about?

[deleted] | 2025-12-10 22:24 | 46 views

Soaked up the drink with a bunch of microfiber towels and turned on tbe heater. Not really worried about how it’ll look coz it’s black and it’s already dried on the surface, but will it be fine electronically ? I’d assumed they’d have thought about accidental spills like this but just making sure 😅

“That’s how you get ants!”

[deleted] 2025-12-10 22:28

I hope it’s Ant May 🥱

I did this twice with a full cup of water. 2nd time the passenger side airbag light came on but it went away in a day. I stopped carrying cups of water without a lid in the car.

[deleted] 2025-12-10 22:34

Oh wow! My dumbass was cleaning out some stuff from the car, so I put my freshly made coffee on the center console instead of the cup holder, came back and sat in the driver seat and knocked off the cup. 🫠 luckily I had a bunch of towels in the back seat. This is the first time I’ve ever spilled anything in my car or anybody else’s lol so a little paranoid.

I’d say park it in a sunny spot and let it fully dry out. Worst case scenario you may damage the occupancy sensor, heating and cooling function. But usually it takes more than an oz or two so I wouldn’t worry about it.

OCS sensor sometimes goes wacko if liquid is spilled

[deleted] 2025-12-10 23:54

Unfortunately there’s no sunny days in Chicago for the foreseeable future 😪 But yeah I didn’t give it enough time to soak and absorb a lot of liquid either so hopefully it’ll be ok?

Kitchen-Ad757 2025-12-11 00:44

This. It sorts itself out after a couple days tho.

Oddly, I did a similar thing today, spilled 2 or 3 oz of cold coffee on the back seat of my wife's Model Y. I had my damp gym towel with me and wiped it up in less than 30 seconds. The spilled coffee had 'puddled' in the recessed stitching, so I don't think it had much of a chance to penetrate before I quickly wiped it up. Haven't used the car since it happened. I guess I will see if anything comes of it tomorrow when I head out to do errands.

Akkk. Milk product down in all the little perforated A/C cooled seat cushion holes? The milk-based smell as it spoils could be overwhelming.

lathiat 2025-12-11 01:45

Yeah, I think this at a minimum needs an extraction cleaner (like a carpet cleaner, water + vacuum) to get the milk out. Any tiny bit of milk is going to turn terribly smelly in the heat.

Capital-Ladder-1313 2025-12-11 02:09

I had leftover Thanksgiving ham in the passenger seat. Because I didn't drive much after the holiday, and had a sweater on the seat, I didn't realize for two days that juices had spilled and pooled on the seat a bit. I dabbed it up and wiped it down and everything seems fine. Liquid was probably thicker than an iced latte though.

[deleted] 2025-12-11 02:16

You had me feeling better until that last line 🫣 I guess I’ll just have to wait a few days and see if something goes bad. Hopefully not 🤞🏾

Capital-Ladder-1313 2025-12-11 02:19

Seams seemed pretty tight to me, I'd imagine you'll be fine.

mazsive 2025-12-11 02:52

Yes, ive heard that too, you heat up the seat etc. I had to get mine retro fitted to the one that's on the driver side that isnt making issues, I had rattle noises too from loose cables lol. all gone now. never spilled liquid but told me its common.

Handsomedork_ 2025-12-11 03:20

30 seconds? Hmmmmmm….

AdExciting7750 2025-12-11 05:05

Sitting here thinking about it. To be more exact.... I would put a full cup of water without a lid on the center arm rest and drive. Make a wrong move and it was in the passenger seat.

JBOMB808 2025-12-11 06:22

Use leather cleaner and leather conditioner to clean it up. Absolutely don’t use alcohol wipes. Beware it might attract ants or even worse roaches.

morbliss 2025-12-11 06:27

50/50 chance you got the sensors in seat wet. If that happens car will throw errors on seat belt and seat occupancy.

xylarr 2025-12-11 10:03

I once dropped bits of chocolate on the seat. Body heat nicely melted them into the perforated seats. It took me a couple of hours to individually clean out each perforation. I instituted a "no food or drink in the car" rule from then on.

WhaleDonation7 2025-12-11 12:49

This wasn’t something I expected to see in this conversation , I like it

matttopotamus 2025-12-11 13:37

Could you just run the seats on heat or cool and dry it out?

lathiat 2025-12-11 14:34

That will dry out the water but won’t remove all the stuff in milk and coffee. The solids, fats, etc. only water evaporates. The rest stays behind. Just like if you boil milk or something else on the stove until it goes dry.

AsEasyAs1234 2025-12-11 15:05

This , milk will smell horrible . You need to use something that will break down the enzymes. I think I used cat pee cleaning solution. No joke it will start to smell bad.

matttopotamus 2025-12-11 15:15

I guess that’s why I’m a water only type person in the car.

Clean it using a small amount of Dawn dish soap mixed with warm water. Lightly press a microfiber cloth dampened with the soapy water onto the surface do not pour water directly. Gently blot to lift the dirt and moisture. Finish by wiping with rubbing alcohol or alcohol wipes to help remove bacteria this is also recommended by Tesla then let it air-dry completely. Avoid using a shampoo or extraction vacuum, as it can damage perforated seats.

Maximum-Potential337 2025-12-12 21:21

Hopefully it doesn’t start smelling like sour milk

UNCLE__TYS 2025-12-13 06:09
