V14 FSD is a regression/ not usable/sucks

AccomplishedClass782 | 2025-12-03 17:55 | 26 views

14.2.1 Changing lane is very stupid, failed several times this morning when the other lane is mostly empty and the other car is like 100 feet away. Also when there’s two right turn lane, it start to wiggle crazily between those two lane, which is ridiculous. V13 has been working perfect. I wish I can downgrade.

a bit anecdotal but I am sure they will fix issues in upcoming updates, in my experience it has been far better in every way though I have experienced the stutter on lane change but I am now able to go from garage to parking spot with no interruptions far more consistently now. I get that it can be frustrating but it is getting better

Omacrontron 2025-12-03 18:02

Ok but it’s iterative and nobody said this was the last update. Why do we get so many of these “here’s my personal experience” for something that’s available to almost everyone >:(

word-dragon 2025-12-03 18:20

Bad news: new major releases are one step forward and three steps back, Good news: it goes 5-6 steps forward before the next major release.

amoeba1126 2025-12-03 19:24

Here is a thought, if you don’t like reading the opinions of then don’t click on their threads?

Omacrontron 2025-12-03 19:32

I gotta let them know nobody cares and they’re not special. If not me then who? Who will?? Anyways, I enjoy being right and everything ive said has been right and I think that’s what burns yall up the most.

bee_ryan 2025-12-03 19:42

Yeah it’s garbage. I didn’t think it could get worse beyond 14.1, but it did. It’s obvious Tesla is focusing on dense city driving improvements, ie robotaxi. For the rest of us who aren’t driving on a tiny grid all day, it’s a big middle finger and almost unusable. It put me in a ditch yesterday trying to yield to an ambulance going 70 mph in the opposite direction. It thinks that utility trucks with flashing yellow lights are emergency vehicles. Removing the ability to set a speed limit. Getting into HOV lanes despite having HOV lanes turned off. Not making a perfectly safe lane change with almost zero traffic around me, turning the blinker on/off 20 times. Yeah but don’t worry - it will be fixed in a couple years. 🙄 I have one nice thing to say. I am pretty sure nags are reduced. I can now at least type this sentence without being beeped at.

starkiller_bass 2025-12-03 20:59

lol yes I’m only on the free trial, everything else has been good but when I was approaching my homebound off-ramp in the fast lane (3 lane hwy) it signaled for 2 full miles and then finally dive-bombed both lane changes at the very last moment possible in light-medium traffic. People were backing off to wave me over and wondering wtf is wrong with this person that won’t just go in front of them.

potatoriot 2025-12-03 21:16

Why is it that every single time a new major version release comes out, people immediately cry about regression? We go through this every time, they will make updates over the next 1-2 months that will fix the bugs and vast majority of issues that arise from a new major version update.

potatoriot 2025-12-03 21:18

You're giving it way too little credit, there are a lot of major steps forward with each major release, many are just not obviously noticeable to you.

RedBandsblu 2025-12-03 21:43

Exactly, the whole point of a forum is to hear other people’s ideas and opinions. I like hearing it because I am Anti FSD after it decided to run into a trash bin on an empty street, no traffic.

AJHenderson 2025-12-03 21:45

The difference this time is that some of the first regressions are self inflicted which makes people crankier than normal. The removal of speed control when it clearly doesn't reliably lower the detected speed enough for even sloth to be usable is not ok. That's not an unavoidable regression, it's an intentional removal of necessary functionality.

ReasonableFox7992 2025-12-03 21:58

Why did you let it do that? lmao

TheLegendaryWizard 2025-12-03 22:14

Honestly I wish I got 14.1.7 instead of 14.2.1, coming from 14.1.4

word-dragon 2025-12-03 22:15

I get that. But the negatives are usually more noticeable. Third v14 update and still slamming in the brakes at odd times. Today, passing a parked truck on a small street, it got halfway past the truck and just stopped there for no apparent reasons. Don’t get me wrong - I love FSD - bought it more than a year before it could be installed. But the pattern is add more features and retrain. Then tweak the training again and again. Not really complaining. First version was just awful!

starkiller_bass 2025-12-03 22:16

I was curious if it would pass the offramp if it couldn't get over.

QuentinLCrook 2025-12-03 23:12

100% correct. It’s like there are two versions. The city version is great and the highway version absolutely blows.

potatoriot 2025-12-03 23:17

So defer updating the new major versions instead of being an early adopter.

Rufus_Anderson 2025-12-03 23:33

V14.2 has been 95% awesome for me. 🤷‍♂️

Jimmy_Durango 2025-12-03 23:45

It’s strange because I haven’t had any trouble with mine. In fact, there’s even been some improvements on how it’s handling intersections in my town that always confused it. So far I haven’t had anything feel like a regression. It’s been smooth! For reference, I have a 2024 M3P.

amoeba1126 2025-12-04 00:03

It's the remaining 5% that is infuriating if not downright dangerous depending on the situation

Rufus_Anderson 2025-12-04 00:18

The 5% have been minor annoyances. Nothing dangerous.

BauceSauce0 2025-12-04 00:23

Overall the general trend with each software update over time is “better”. If you look at individual updates we will always occasionally see some regression on some dimension of the update. It has happened and will continue to happen.

Recalibrate your cameras

CourseEcstatic6202 2025-12-04 03:13

My wife’s MY is still on v13 and it is awesome. My MY is on v14.2 and it sucks. I disabled it after the first drive. In Hurry mode in the slow lane behind a big rig going 51mph in a 65 zone. Very light traffic. The car would not pass. I had to go to Mad Max mode but then it drives 85 in a 65. What a joke. They really need to separate the speed profile from the driving dynamics profile. Or just bring back max speed for heavens sake.

hmspain 2025-12-04 04:34

FSD V14 has been terrific for me too! The lane change hesitation is annoying, and the car gets spooked at shadows, but I'll take it as a tradeoff for getting full **END TO END FSD**. From my driveway, I can push a button, and the car drives me where I want to go. Once it gets there, it finds a parking space, and parks there (usually backing in!). It could not do that before FSD V14. Not only that, you can save the destination type (driveway, street, parking lot, etc) with each of your favorites. My car backs into my CARPORT perfectly each and every time I come home. I can feel my driving skills fading LOL.

hmspain 2025-12-04 04:37

I heard a rumor that V14.2.1 would respect oncoming car hand waving. I thought... right... :-). Today, I was getting ready to make a left when a car approached from the opposite direction. We both stopped *at the same time*. I thought great, we are both going to wait forever. The Tesla will always defer, and the oncoming car had a hesitant driver. As you might expect, the oncoming driver waved me to proceed, and my car immediately made the left. Pretty cool.

word-dragon 2025-12-04 05:52

Don’t be silly! Happy to participate in the process - just making an observation of how the process works.

PermanentUsername101 2025-12-04 14:54

14.2.1 feels exactly like 13.2.9 to me except for the horrible parking jobs which I didn’t have before. I want 14.1.7 back.

Chris_Apex_NC 2025-12-04 17:21

My experience is the opposite of yours. I live in a suburb in NC.

Chris_Apex_NC 2025-12-04 17:24

Fair take. Lots of new features added and better response time. Big improvement over 14.1.4 which was only a few weeks ago. Good trajectory IMO

OddMove2382 2025-12-05 13:19

V14.2.1 is terrific. Your hardware needs calibrating.

OddMove2382 2025-12-05 13:20

That's a hardware problem not FSD.

Commercial_F 2025-12-07 04:05

Because it’s such a significant drop off that is noticed big time by a lot people. V13 was 10x better overall.

potatoriot 2025-12-07 04:29

Come back in a month and make the same claim.

gabeduarte 2025-12-09 21:30

For me specifically, it’s been 10x better than V13
