What if...

Force-user | 2025-12-02 01:53 | 192 views

My neighbor has a Deloreon and every now and then I would see him and we talk about his car and my M3P Highland. Never really thought about this till recently. But would this work 🤔

oooohh I like that

adacardano 2025-12-02 01:55

I’d immediately trade my 22 m3p in for that!

deej628 2025-12-02 01:57

Same.

CAVU1331 2025-12-02 02:01

Those doors suck. Our driver drives us around in an X and they do weird stuff quite often. Sticking with my Y and an EV9 until they update the X.

daphatty 2025-12-02 02:11

Instantly adds 30k to the price. No thanks.

OldFargoan 2025-12-02 02:37

Not sure my daughter could get out without being able to kick the door.

olifuck 2025-12-02 02:59

It would also looks cool as a convertible.. not that I would want it. But it would look cool

Rope-Practical 2025-12-02 03:12

It’s cool but aside from small parking spaces what’s the real benefit

AllTheBestVideos 2025-12-02 03:17

It’s too showy for me, but I would love to see this out and about

Low_Construction161 2025-12-02 03:26

This deserves more attention 😂

Phils_Kid 2025-12-02 03:36

Yep, the number one reason why the model X spends half its time in the shop...

Kief_Bowl 2025-12-02 03:52

That it's cool

aniessuh 2025-12-02 04:04

Would suck in winter..

HUSTLEDANK 2025-12-02 04:17

na that’s AIA

Dbyrd92 2025-12-02 04:44

Dooope! Would absolutely love that. Throw in auto open and brake to close like the front doors on the X. Would be so sick!

oz81dog 2025-12-02 05:00

I'm the other way. I'd already have an X if it had normal doors! roof box is a requirement.

XxLp750-4xx 2025-12-02 05:21

Interestingly, the first prototype for the model x falcon wing door mechanism was actually tested using a model S. https://youtu.be/OCfPJ_6KSzs?si=itBM7VlmRnngasTR

mrandr01d 2025-12-02 06:16

Why?

klydefrog89 2025-12-02 07:56

I'd drive a Honda jazz with Delorean doors! Take my money!

PotatoCooks 2025-12-02 08:04

Older people who struggle to bend, car seats although if it's for this coupe design then maybe not

pc772 2025-12-02 08:34

No

rupees_al 2025-12-02 08:56

This is so true

ILikeWhyteGirlz 2025-12-02 09:08

Model Y was supposed to have Falcon Wing doors but Elon’s team talked him out of it because of the pain they already experienced with both the X, with the doors, and 3, despite it being designed for ease of manufacturing. They knew Y as an SUV would be the most popular vehicle so didn’t want to repeat 3 production ramp woes.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 09:47

Model S if anything. WAY too expensive on a 3.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 09:48

A friend has that issue.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 09:48

Protection in the rain is under rated. Also no door in the way getting out.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 09:49

Thoughts on sliding door instead?

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 09:50

I prefer a T-top they planned of the roadster. Less parts to fail. My mothers old convertable had...... Issues.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 09:51

Makes more sense on a model S.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 09:53

That makes no sense. Y was always meant to be cheap and those doors are not cheap.  If you're talking about adding them to the model S, that makes more sense.

VtotheJ 2025-12-02 10:02

Pretty sure he said he would never do falcon doors again.

OneEstablishment5144 2025-12-02 10:19

I think you meant a targa vs t top. T top is for old school trans am vs opening of the target without the bat in the center. I thought the roadster had a target like 911 target or old school ferraris.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 10:43

Sorry yes.

matttopotamus 2025-12-02 11:37

I lucked out with a X and never had falcon door issues, but it created an unnecessary fear. I’d rather not have them.

Freewheeler631 2025-12-02 12:17

I imagine torsional rigidity would suffer, plus I wouldn’t be able to use my roof rack. Looks cool, but I’d pass.

Schnitzhole 2025-12-02 13:01

How many of you would spend an extra $10-20k on a model 3 for these? I suspect not many. It looks cool but makes more sense for the S that has more room for them. Id rather not have all the drawbacks including: *less headroom *more weight (especially up high increases body roll) *more complex and prone to braking *too showy for an average cost car. I don’t like going to the grocery store to be an event. *more expensive to produce increasing cost of car significantly

aniessuh 2025-12-02 13:11

1. Door doesn't open if its icy 2. You just let all the heat out 3. Snow blows in while door is open

protonecromagnon2 2025-12-02 13:31

If you look at the model x forums lots of people have lots of problems with those doors. I love the idea in concept but execution is messy. There was a period where the hardware was sorted but then they removed all USS and try to do vision only for door control, I think that's a miss here.

Aloha_Addict77 2025-12-02 13:59

My daughter too 😂

ILikeWhyteGirlz 2025-12-02 14:23

Elon thought economies of scale would make it cheap.

Theonlyrational 2025-12-02 15:30

At least I wouldn't have to replace my check straps every few years.

spectradawn77 2025-12-02 16:28

MX 2025 no major issue with me. Only issue is the last thing you mentioned. It's fucking dumb inside a garage.

protonecromagnon2 2025-12-02 16:40

That was the beauty of these tricky doors before 2020 they just worked. Now it's so skiddish

extremeoak 2025-12-02 17:02

Coming from someone who also owns an X, i would hate this . The falcon doors are really impractical and has so much potential to go wrong.

Animanganime 2025-12-02 17:45

[Door kit](https://verticaldoors.com/products/tesla-model-3-2017-2023-vertical-lambo-doors-kit) I know it’s not the same but for $2000 you can have doors that go up

mrandr01d 2025-12-02 17:50

Seems like the same problems I have with every other car...

HYtool 2025-12-02 17:54

FWD are the worst design, thats the reason I got rid of my 23 MXLR. When it works its fine when its not youll regret why you pay so much money and it doesn't work

oz81dog 2025-12-02 18:21

I mean it would reclaim the roof as a functional surface but I dont see an advantage for sliding doors over regular doors. i could see snow and ice buildup being an issue with sliding doors though. My model y is my ski car, simple is good. i sure would like that windshield though from the X. There's nothing like that view! That's what i really want. well, that and adjustable height suspension.

PreviousShelter2773 2025-12-02 19:10

Where is the front doors?

Xuliman 2025-12-02 22:36

This seems like a thread of people who don’t live where it gets cold. I’ll take doors than don’t freeze the minute it goes below 4°C/35°F over this any day, speaking of weather.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 23:27

Is this before or after the no part is best part?

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 23:32

Well unlike regular doors, they don't swing out meaning you can get out in tight spaces ect.  Isn't snow build up an issue with regular doors? I don't see why sliding would be any different.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-02 23:34

Yep, its as if there is an entire rest of the world out there and not everyone is in the US.  Edit: wow I was tired when I first wrote this.

ILikeWhyteGirlz 2025-12-03 00:31

Before. That came much after the automation troubles with the 3 ramp and Starship manufacturing.

Xuliman 2025-12-03 00:35

It only gets cold in the US? Go home, you’re drunk, the world is not a tire. LOL, Reddit.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-03 01:23

Ah that makes more sense.

sparkyblaster 2025-12-03 01:24

Sleepy*

Wilder831 2025-12-03 01:44

Not to mention when some ass hat parks too close you can’t even try to squeeze in

magictiger 2025-12-03 02:14

That’s when you just use summon to back it out of the spot.

Comfortable-Till76 2025-12-03 03:01

I actually like the falcon doors but HATE the self opening driver and passenger doors. It’d be great if they had an option for opening manually but obviously there isn’t a door handle. They are heavy and stiff!

adtrix101 2025-12-03 08:59

I feel like I’m in the minority here, but I genuinely wish Tesla would let us customize the exterior design of the car the same way we pick wheels, paint or interior. Not just a small body kit, but full factory styling packages. Imagine ordering a brand-new Model 3, but being able to choose between different design languages like Legacy, Highland or Juniper, regardless of model year. Pick the car you want, then pick the style you want. That would be incredible. A Juniper package on a 2026 Model 3 would look unreal. And like OP’s picture shows, even being able to apply a Model X inspired design kit to a Model 3 would open up so many cool combinations. It’s the kind of thing people would absolutely pay for, and honestly I feel like Tesla would make more money doing it than sticking to the traditional facelift cycle. They already reuse platforms for years, so why not let us buy the look we prefer too?

niagara100 2025-12-03 13:10

I just want a 2dr hatchback coupe version of the m3. Simple to the new prelude or ae86/brz. Preferably with normal doors for cost reasons.

aranea100 2025-12-03 17:29

Love the concept. When we got a loaner X, my kid enjoyed those doors a lot. So now I have to save money to get an X for my wife, a concept 3 for me and a house with a much larger garage to open these doors 😂. One can only dream.

Hot-Accountant-4425 2025-12-04 00:46

Funny thing is there are plans to produce a DeLorean again, their actually looking to produce a new version of this iconic classic…

RScottyL 2025-12-04 02:09

Yeah, I think because of the motors, etc. If they made them manual, there would be less issues!

Dry_Situation_3582 2025-12-05 23:43

My last name is Delorean and I approve. 😁

starkiller_bass 2025-12-09 22:07

Oh hi you must be the family who parks next to me

starkiller_bass 2025-12-09 22:08

Imagine the cheapness of the M3P combined with the supreme initial unreliability of the Model X’s stupid fucking doors.

starkiller_bass 2025-12-09 22:09

That’s ok, it’s not like anyone with 100k to blow on a hatchback SUV parks in a garage, right??
