Driving advice for soon to be first time M3 owner

I’m leasing a Model3P in a week or so and am looking forward to using the FSD. However, I know there are going to be times where the computer brain needs “some help”, I guess you could say? I read a previous post regarding stopping at yellow lights and that’s already got me mildly concerned. What other situations have you encountered where human interaction has been preferred or maybe even required? Things like railroad crossings, emergency vehicles, merging onto crowded freeways, and road construction lane closures come to mind.

For me, no turn on red has created the most glaring issues. Sometimes it turns on red when you can't, and sometimes it sits there when you can.

The lights aren't that big of a deal. The only time ive interfered is at a newly developed overpass that hadn't been mapped, the car was going on the road correctly, but i didn't want to chance it because the previous road is gone completely

Stop signs are awkward for sure, prefer to just do them myself. IIRC FSD can't read signs so anything with unique rules or unusual circumstances have me hovering the wheel. Parallel parking with FSD can sometimes have issues. Driving in direct sunlight also seems to make the car more cautious.

There are a bunch of youtubers out there that you can watch. Please don't just listen to Reddit

Keep the map visible and monitor the route planned. You may notice that what is planned may not actually be legal (wrong lane for turn, etc).

FSD does not turn the driver into a passenger. The driver becomes a micromanaging supervisor. You're still keeping a close eye on everything that happens. You may think that isn't much of an improvement, but it is. Operating the vehicle with FSD quickly becomes significantly less mentally taxing than normal driving. I love it, but it's not like being a passenger at all.

The truth is you need to be prepared for anything and everything. There are times that you will be impressed and times that you won’t.
