My 2023 model 3 RWD is close to 50,000 mi. What's everybody's opinion on getting the extended warranty. 50 bucks a month, with a $100 deductible. Seems a little pricey and I've nev

Look at what’s covered and make an informed decision

Voidfang_Investments 2025-11-28 19:36

It’s not pricey at all for an oem extended warranty.

therealCatnuts 2025-11-28 19:37

I’m at the same point with my 2023 / 50K miles and I think I’m gonna do it. The only issue I’ve had under warranty was the drivers seat headrest delaminating and creating bubbles/tears. Pretty minor, maybe a $50 fix but they did it on site free of charge no hassles.  But overall, I think $50/mo for 4 more years of total warranty and even longer for battery/drivetrain is worth it. It’s still a car, there will be some issues.

Weed_Me_Up 2025-11-28 19:49

Yeah I think I'm leaning towards it. For the peace of mind. I plan on having this car for a lot longer

evyr_team 2025-11-28 19:56

Would absolutely recommend it. Model 3 suspension can be up to $2K, headlights are similar, PCS around $3K etc. It will pay for itself. Bring your SA a coffee, they might even waive your deductible. 😉

bunnywinkles 2025-11-28 20:04

We got it, but we also drive the car 120+ miles a day, so it will be what... $500 for another 10 months of peace of mind. For comparison, we paid $3500 for an extended warranty on our subaru up until 120k miles.

starkiller_bass 2025-11-28 20:40

Have you ever had any issue with getting things covered under the policy?

evyr_team 2025-11-28 20:43

We’ve worked in Tesla service for a long time; there’s some limitations to coverage around noises and trims, but for the most part you’ll walk out of there with only having a deductible.

roaddoctorg 2025-11-28 20:47

Who offered that?

Weed_Me_Up 2025-11-28 20:56

Tesla does on the app

TengokuIkari 2025-11-28 20:58

Mine is at 73k miles, same model year. I haven't had any issues with it.

Seoul_Seattle 2025-11-28 21:10

I’m positive Reddit knows what I’m thinking by me talking on phone or searching … cause I was thinking of getting warranty extended as I’m 50k in almost too . Let’s both take the plunge

Seoul_Seattle 2025-11-28 21:11

Do you know if extended warranty cost is flat cost for everyone or case by case where your at

Voidfang_Investments 2025-11-28 21:12

It’s just a $100 deductible at any Tesla center. It’s all official.

Seoul_Seattle 2025-11-28 21:12

So headlights and suspension will be covered ? And they will extend battery life too?

Seoul_Seattle 2025-11-28 21:12

Wonder if there’s official link that showcases ? I am the type if I search on my own I come across some fake news or third party sales men lol

ZeroBalance98 2025-11-28 21:13

Literally look in your app. Upgrades > service plans > ESA > agreement doc

Seoul_Seattle 2025-11-28 21:16

Go figure I drive 120 miles too. So do we just get the extension on the app? (So convenient to order via app btw) So let say I have window issue that the software calibration says your windows are good but still having random issues going up and down. Service is gonna look into this this Monday. And let say if they don’t have any parts to install so no warranty for the parts ..since it was more like a software side issue.if getting the extended warranty … all these little nuiansanxez will be covered right? The fact the car is a like computer, feel like it’s going to geek squad Al ways

rjcarr 2025-11-28 21:17

Basically everything covered by the basic warranty is covered by the ESA. The battery and motors are a separate warranty.

rjcarr 2025-11-28 21:19

Don’t forget it also costs $175 for an ESA inspection, or at least it did for me.

Kamukix 2025-11-28 21:27

That's not for everyone, it was $0 no inspection needed for me. Interesting that it does cost for some people/cars. 🤔

Icy-Piccolo6326 2025-11-28 21:37

Extended warranties are for suckers Take that $50/month and put it in a HYSA.  Do that for every extended warranty you’d consider.   Now you have an emergency fund for anything that could go wrong

DUXandBLAZERS 2025-11-28 21:51

I did it. Had a rear tail light fill with water and a seat sensor go out. Not that big of a deal but peace of mind is better than then $50

BayBombers 2025-11-28 21:52

Just looked in the app and the ESA is there but requires an inspection upfront at a cost of $175. I wonder what differentiates who gets charged and who doesn’t?

evyr_team 2025-11-28 21:52

ESA is an extension of your new car warranty. 12V battery is not covered, headlights and suspension are covered. Tesla is weird and says TAS on MS/MX is not covered, but like…It’s covered. 😅

galelo0d 2025-11-28 21:57

2020 with 80k miles, not an issue ever. If it wasn’t for me throwing money on whees etc, this car wouldn’t need a single dollar

mrlego45 2025-11-28 22:15

Battery/drive is not part of this right? Just everything else.

Kamukix 2025-11-28 22:32

I wonder too. Mine was for a 2022 Model 3 Performance

Weed_Me_Up 2025-11-28 22:37

Correct. Battery is still covered until 80K if I recall

[deleted] 2025-11-28 22:41

I have a 22 LR AWD with 146k miles. Replaced the radiator about 10k miles ago for just under $1k, replaced charge port for just under $500 (sandy climate), and a seat sensor for under $200 (probably didn’t have to change, but addressed it while in service bc why not). Not sure the warranty is worth it. Other than that, I’ve replaced tires, air filter, and wipers that would not likely be covered.

Weed_Me_Up 2025-11-28 22:58

I just activated it. It won't charge my card until I hit 50k but it says you need to activate it before you hit 50,001.

Seoul_Seattle 2025-11-28 23:20

So I got a pre-certified which includes the 50 K but after the 50 K is done, they give me an extra 10 K so do you know if it’s gonna activate after 60 K I’m sure it’s all calculated so either way I’ll do that right now. Just curious

CargoCamper612 2025-11-28 23:20

No suspension repairs? My early 22 LR (Intel) needed compliance links on the front end at 45k which was under the factory bumper-bumper luckily. Just did a full inspection for peace of mind so this gives me hope.

BSCA 2025-11-28 23:27

I have the same car. Rocking 54k miles. No issues. No warrenty. No need.

[deleted] 2025-11-28 23:31

Weed_Me_Up 2025-11-28 23:39

No limits on the miles per year. Just overall 50,000 mile limit or 4 years whichever comes first

Suspicious_Bed_8870 2025-11-28 23:46

I would get it. This was not offered when I had my Tesla. The battery went out at 103,000 miles wish I had something like this

Weed_Me_Up 2025-11-29 00:11

Ouch! This one do anything for the battery unfortunately as it's just an extension of the mean warranty. The battery and drive train are covered under the 80k warranty. What did you end up doing at that point? Sell or fix? How much did it cost to fix? I'm hoping this car will last me a long time... At least 150k miles min. is what I'm hoping.

therealCatnuts 2025-11-29 00:25

You are correct that battery warranty is unchanged, but incorrect that it’s 100K miles not 80K.  I did just sign up for the ESA. I was at 47,500 miles.

BB22DPT 2025-11-29 00:44

Do it.

mrlego45 2025-11-29 01:05

Battery 100k miles for me

WrongdoerIll5187 2025-11-29 01:42

You didn't mention if you're thinking of upgrading or not and what that timeline looks like. As a general rule, the extended warranty is always a scam.

jzacks92 2025-11-29 02:02

If you read through the terms what’s covered isn’t as broad as the initial factory warranty. Lights for example are considered a wear item under the warranty and aren’t covered. I’ve asked two separate employees at my service center if I should do it and they’ve both said not to.

rjcarr 2025-11-29 03:24

I think it might be whether you ended your warranty with years or miles. Or it could be an original owner thing.

niknik888 2025-11-29 03:52

I have 55,000, I didn’t do it.

[deleted] 2025-11-29 04:29

No suspension repairs. I did take it in once to have it looked at bc the road I drove daily for work was rough, but they said it looked great.

BayBombers 2025-11-29 04:38

Interesting take. Never thought about it like that. Mine ended with years. 21M3 and my 4 years were up before I hit 33k.

rjcarr 2025-11-29 05:41

Yeah, strangely, I have a 2021 where the warranty just ended and my car is at 34K miles. I had to pay the $175 inspection before I could enroll in ESA.

Kamukix 2025-11-29 05:44

Interesting, mine ended with miles instead of years. (I was also the 2nd owner)

BayBombers 2025-11-29 05:48

Curious what this inspection was like if you wouldn’t mind sharing. Outside of the regular wear and tear a four year old car would have cosmetically, mine is in amazing condition. Guess I’m just wondering if this a legit inspection or a $175 money grab.

Lonely-Implement4824 2025-11-29 06:14

I've been fortunate enough to have no major issues past the basic warranty. The battery warranty can vary by year and model. My 2018 Long Range RWD came with coverage for 8 years or 120,000 miles. I have like 108k so far.

rjcarr 2025-11-29 06:47

They replaced a dash piece (separate warranty item) and did the inspection within like 90 minutes so it couldn't have been that thorough. They're probably checking a handful of things that are problematic to make sure they won't have to replace them right away. So, likely partially a cash grab and partially covering their ass. There might have been a (digital) report but I never bothered looking at it.

BayBombers 2025-11-29 07:00

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.

rjcarr 2025-11-29 07:10

No problem, if I find that report I'll send more info. I think I've done the ESA for two months now and no complaints, other than I'd rather spend that $50 on something else, ha.

OneEstablishment5144 2025-11-29 08:19

Tesla offered me the ESA before my date passed, and after my 4 yrs passed, it reminded me that I was still able to purchase the ESA but with the inspection fee. I suspect the fee is to verify that the parts covered are not broken. A savy ESA plan would be to enroll as soon as you suspect something is going wrong and then wait to see if your suspect item becomes a problem or not. And if it does, you have your ESA and paid maybe 3 months' worth of warranty for the inspection. I don't plan on purchasing the ESA unless I experience issues, but for now, she is problem free, but she needs a wash.

unkreddit 2025-11-29 14:50

The occasional horror stories on reddit have convinced me to get one so I can sleep at night.

rjcarr 2025-11-29 15:43

This isn’t how it works, at least not for me. I had to enroll within a month of my warranty ending or else I was disqualified.

Wo0d643 2025-11-29 16:19

Is any of that covered though?

evyr_team 2025-11-29 16:49

Yes.

Zealotnic 2025-11-29 18:00

Agreed, also the warranty doesn’t cover wear and tear items like brakes suspension. the LFP version of the model 3 is probably the most reliable car on the road, 50$ per month is pure profit for Tesla, they are only offering because they will make money off it.

YayAnimals 2025-11-29 19:56

When you press and decompress your accelerator pedal - you ever hear a thumping sound I went to a few different service centers and most of them have said they weren’t sure what it was. The last one mentioned it dealt with the drive unit - and that it was *normal *

Weed_Me_Up 2025-11-29 20:01

Nice! I really want this car to last me at least to 150k miles at a minimum

sim16 2025-11-29 21:42

It's not needed at all if the car is made in China. My Tesla is TIGHT.

ForeverMinute7479 2025-11-29 22:06

8-years or 120,000mi whichever occurs first. HV batt and Drive Units

Leyvaman-MX 2025-11-30 14:46

I recommend that you, at least- sign up for the Extended Warranty thru the App- you’ll then schedule a service appointment to see if your car is eligible- Service will completely check it out for any issues, and will repair what they find.  The “check up” costs $175, and you’ll then have 30 days/1000 miles, to decide if you’ll want to subscribe to ESA.  But at least, you’ll have “peace of mind”- I just did this last week- they replaced both lower control arms…no additional charge.  Still deciding if I want to “subscribe”.  Good luck 👍

Hot-Swan2280 2025-11-30 22:46

I bought a 5 year extended warranty on my 2019 M3P which only had 27k miles when I bought it last April. Think it costs me $100/month. Never bought a warranty on a used car, especially with such low miles, but I’ve never owned a computer on wheels either. Wondering if I got taken by the sales staff😂. Bought it from a BMW dealership. Will my warranty coverage still show up in my Tesla app?

Only_Indication8410 2025-12-01 00:45

I did it. I have a M3 2023 that hit the 50,000 mile mark. I went through the legal jargon with AI and it seems like the warranty doesn’t really cover anything which doesn’t make sense but it’s heavily dependent on no coverage on third party parts

ElZorro5 2025-12-01 02:52

I mean if you’re even modestly mechanically inclined. Head rests, side mirrors and easy to reach sensors shouldn’t be to hard to replace? I’m both asking and stating at the same time. Since my wife’s 2024 MYP is at 35k right now. I do minor diagnostic and parts replacement on my older ice vehicles.

bunnywinkles 2025-12-18 19:46

No idea on the warranty question, but I'd argue it's still a warranty issue. Extended should still cover it after deductible.
