FSD 14.2 failed the wife test

Momo411176 | 2025-11-27 04:31 | 41 views

FSD 14.2 seems to be indecisive with running yellow light compared to 13.2.9 and in just one drive on a sunny afternoon I got two jarring hard brakes as it attempts to stop for a yellow. Let’s just say it did not passed the wide test at all. A PTSD moment that’s for sure. Never (yes, never) ever experienced such with 13.2.9 and so for me I think I’ll downgrade using by stopping subscription method. HW4 highland.

Does not surprise me! It needs a lot of work

VicAltman 2025-11-27 04:36

They’ll improve it over time. (Hopefully)

Yeah fsd 14 has been really rough. Really hoping they will get it back to the comfort of 13.2.9

Momo411176 2025-11-27 04:39

Oh for sure. 13.2.9 set such a high bar as far as comfort goes.

Interesting, it's been the total opposite for us! V14.1.4 almost always slammed on the brakes at yellow lights, v14.2 has gone through several of them without hesitation or issues. It's been much smoother and more decisive overall for us.

jimmy9120 2025-11-27 04:45

No my HW3 does the same lol

Jaws12 2025-11-27 04:47

Both our cars are HW3 so still on FSD 12 but happy that my wife uses FSD often (and even helped Beta test in the early days - yay engineer spouses)!

My first trip passed the wife test, at the end she asked if I actually drive anywhere anymore. I do drive half the time because I start to get complacent when i’m solo and on a familiar drive. I want to make sure I don’t get too comfortable.

FYI it's not possible to downgrade by unsubscribing anymore, now that 14.2 is on the Tron/main branch and not an older one.

I almost got rear ended with 14.1.7 because the car decided to slam brakes at about 45mph on a yellow light that could've been passed. And today I tried 14.2 for the first time and I'm dissapointed at how indecisive it still is when switching lanes. Something that was a non issue for the last version of fsd 13.

It was NUTS how hard it would slam on the brakes for a yellow. I swear I had a light turn yellow when I was like 50 feet from it doing about 45-50..... And it stopped...... Hard. I was so glad the people behind me weren't driving like most people that end up behind me.... And actually had plenty of space between us.

There was a lot of tech exits at Tesla. Did the fsd people leave too?

Momo411176 2025-11-27 09:47

I saw several TesalAi team members leaving to join this Sunday.ai robot startup.

>Interesting, it's been the total opposite for us! > Lol, after reading the first sentence, I immediately started thinking back to the title of the thread and got the idea in my head - wife failed the FSD test, OP needs a new wife

PhilosophyCorrect279 2025-11-27 17:12

This made me lol too 🤣

instantnet 2025-11-27 19:12

Drives like your wife!

randomradman 2025-11-28 01:27

Sounds about right. They can’t fix the violent braking. I can’t use it. Bummer.

randomradman 2025-11-28 01:28

Sounds about right. You should try it on narrow two lane roads. It will scare the shit out of you.

randomradman 2025-11-28 01:29

It hasn’t yet. It’s unusable.

VicAltman 2025-11-28 02:55

i said over time bud. Not in 2 days.

CopperBlitter 2025-11-28 13:04

Did it brake, then release, then brake again? Or did it just unexpectedly brake hard instead of "pinking" the light? I did have one instance under 14.1.4 where a light turned yellow at a critical moment, and FSD quite decisively braked a little hard. I didn't slam the brakes, but hit them just barely enough to trigger the app my insurance company uses to calculate discounts. I would have just continued, but I'd have definitely run a red light had I done so. FSD did the technically correct thing here.

SuitableJoke8130 2025-11-28 14:20

That’s okay, you can always get a new wife.

Just-Yogurt-568 2025-11-28 16:32

I got downvoted for saying I am staying on v13. But I remain content with that decision. I appreciate all you beta testers though 💙
